So it seems to that Xrouter  do great things and I am little suprised that his topic is not  very popular..
I know that many people preffer discord/telegram nowadays but I think bitcointalk community is quite big though and I expect more interest here..

Also, enterprises and governments don’t want to decentralise fully, they want to have someone to call if there is something to be discussed

What's the reason in being in this space if we're going to appease to the current (problematic) status quo  Wink

Seems rather counterproductive if you ask me  Cheesy

Additionally though, centralized entities with distinguished reputations are free to run their own Service Nodes with custom plugins and provide services to customers who only wish to deal with them specifically.  This allows them to have the freedom to do as they please without needing to worry about the network upkeep, security, and overhead that is provided by Blocknet.

By gateways, I mean being able to provide bandwith to the network and have Overledger data pass through multiple additional computers around the world, for which there will be remuneration for (work in progress).

Also, enterprises and governments don’t want to decentralise fully, they want to have someone to call if there is something to be discussed - I don’t know how that will work with your system.

The immediate connection to the various blockchains is an interesting point. I will await further technical analysis from various parties in terms of how both platforms compare then.

Thanks

Overledger will be hosted on a large number of cloud services AND they will soon offer the possibility for everyone to host their own gateways

This isn't true decentralization when 1 entity controls the hosting across numerous cloud servers.  When you say gateways, are you referring to original endpoints providing data or simply just a gateway to Quant's cloud servers?

Is there any drawback though re Xrouter not having to go through this type of work? 2min sounds nice, but is that providing 100% interop?

There is certainly no drawback as developers are free to do as they please whenever they want to - there is no waiting, permission, or green light involved whatsoever.  It most definitely is providing 100% interoperability as assets and information alike are enabled to interact and move freely on any dApp imaginable that can be built leveraging XRouter.

That’s not true! Quant Network’s Overledger system has been doing this for a while and you must know it... how do you see yourselves vs their tech btw?

Quant runs centralized servers that users have access to... Blocknet is decentralized across hundreds of "Service Nodes" owned and operated by random people and projects around the world.  This maximizes uptime as well as security through decentralized consensus per the user's liking.

Blocknet's XRouter also allows Service Nodes to create and offer custom API endpoints for users in a completely permissionless fashion - if you were wanting to provide the ability to launch an asset on the Syscoin blockchain, with XRouter you could spend 2 minutes creating a custom plugin to provide this service via your own Service Node.  For Quant, you'd have to ask the Quant project to add this feature to their product offering.

Blocknet being fully decentralized is one of the major differences... and an extremely important difference at that.

That’s not really true either, since Overledger will be hosted on a large number of cloud services AND they will soon offer the possibility for everyone to host their own gateways (see the Utility token pdf release). Btw, do the Service Nodes need to do any form of consensus or are they just there to relay transactions?

On your second  point, Overledger has planned to open source the connectors to the various blockchains so each and everyone will be able to build and publish connectors in the future. Is there any drawback though re Xrouter not having to go through this type of work? 2min sounds nice, but is that providing 100% interop?

Thanks

I'm with 86B here.

The value of centralized tech to a decentralized world is marginal.

And in this case, the value of essentially the same function in decentralized form is the difference between the current state of the internet and the interchain.

It's an entirely new world.

The idea sounds very unusual.

Thanks. The fact is, NOBODY in the Blockchain space has achieved this. This is a first and a real game changer.  Interoperability between all Blockchains.  There is no middleman and no requirement to build on a single platform so developers are not chained to one project or ecosystem.

The idea sounds very unusual. And I think your tables with calculations of price increase are too optimistic. I do not think that tens of thousands of users will buy your idea.

Can you elaborate, what do you find unusual about it?

"Tens of thousands of people will buy it?" Did you read the article because there is nothing "for sale". Everyone will one day use XRouter in one form or another without you even realizing it.

Look Morty magic internet money
This is such an amazing project from a technological point of view. Dapps that can leverage features from multiple chains with a light weight client gives so much more possibilities to developers. Lets hope the news spreads wide and far since we lack the acknowledgment in the space.

Introducing XRouter. Developers Can Now Mix And Match Any Blockchain Via The World's First Blockchain Router

WEBSITE   |   WHITEPAPER  |   WALLET DOWNLOADS  |   REDDIT   |  FACEBOOK   |  DISCORD   |  TELEGRAM   |  TWITTER   |

Blocknet has released the beta version of XRouter, the world's first blockchain router. XRouter opens the door for multi-chain, lightweight dApps to harness contracts and protocols from different blockchains, allowing them to communicate and use each others' specific features. XRouter lays the foundation for multi-blockchain architectures and an "Internet of Blockchains".

Developers are now able to utilize the best aspects of any chain instead of building and coding a new dApp from scratch. You will be able to develop applications on any blockchain and offer services that utilize features from other blockchains, essentially mixing and matching any blockchain you desire. This means development can occur on any chain and the features needed can be pulled in from other blockchains. XRouter allows access to any available RPC command without needing that blockchain installed locally, and being decentralized, there are no servers to be trusted. XRouter also enables the verification of blockchain records from theoretically any blockchain without requiring users to download the blockchain in question. XRouter was designed from the ground up to provide interoperability with ANY and ALL blockchains, including all DTLs (such as IOTA and Hashgraph) and private chains (such as Hyperledger or R3). There is no limit on the data XRouter can consume and verify - including any external data source in Oraclize. XRouter is not limited in any way, shape, or form and is compatible with all blockchains. By allowing blockchains to integrate with each other (directly chain to chain, without being a middleman to the data itself), XRouter gives people, companies, industries, and developers the ability to utilize different blockchains for any dApp they desire and decentralizes the API ecosystem. You can download the Blocknet wallet with XRouter here. (In the future, the Blocknet wallet will not be required).

XRouter is one part of the Blocknet Protocol, an infrastructure for a new era of cross-blockchain communication. The Blocknet Protocol enables the technologies on any blockchain to become available via decentralized APIs, creating a paradigm shift from monolithic architecture development to microservice architectures and heralds the internet of blockchains.

XRouter Design.

XRouter works via an inter-blockchain SPV client (or "light wallet") backend, enabling the verification of blockchain records from theoretically any blockchain. This is a huge leap forward in blockchain technology. The XRouter system utilizes the Blocknet Service Node network (currently almost 500 nodes) to route calls from the client directly to the respective blockchain. This routing of packets occurs on the TCP/IP networking layer. There are 2 types of XRouter calls: submissions and queries. Submissions are calls that involve interactions with a blockchain where the packets are routed from the client to the respective blockchain and a response, if any, is routed back to the client. XRouter queries are calls requesting information from a blockchain. With queries, the packets are also routed from the client to the respective blockchain, and the response of the information queried is routed back to the client. XRouter queries can also require a specific amount of Service Nodes to receive a response from in order to achieve consensus on the final answer. XRouter API details can be viewed here.

Monetize Enterprise Applications

XRouter allows for the monetisation of inter-chain and multi-chain services. There is the capability to create custom microservices in Docker containers that act as plugins for XRouter. This is the foundation for Blocknet's forthcoming XCloud platform. Existing containers on Docker Hub (hub.docker.com), including a large number of Enterprise applications, can also be monetized and served through Blocknet's XRouter interoperability protocol. Developers and Service Node operators will be able to test XCloud Docker applications in XRouter Beta. Currently fees must be paid in BLOCK, but in a future release there will be the ability to accept fees in any asset. This will help increase adoption and create seemless integration into any application. Blocknet Service Nodes earn 100% of fees from XRouter, and XCloud services. A good way to think of XCloud is like a decentralized AWS. With XRouter, and subsequently XCloud, fees are determined by a free market. Service Nodes can specify the fee that they wish to charge for a call and the client can specify the max fee they are willing to pay for calls. A service node requires 5000 BLOCK to operate. If you'd like to operate your own Service Node, see the Service Node set up guide here.

What does this all mean?

So, what does this all mean for the Blockchain ecosystem? XRouter and XCloud are enabling both developers and Enterprise software products to integrate seamlessly with blockchains and accept cryptocurrency payments without having to re-code or change anything about those existing applications. For example, if you have a text messaging service or platform, you can connect your service in a matter of minutes to XRouter and begin collecting fees (in BLOCK) for users to send text messages via XRouter without requiring any signups or KYC. To use your text messaging service, a user could open their Blocknet console and send an XRouter command: xrService SendTextMessage 555-555-5555 "Hello, I'm texting you from XRouter"

An Internet of Blockchains (IoB)

A simple analogy would be that the Blocknet Protocol and XRouter is like the Netflix or Spotify for blockchains. Years ago, you had to walk to your local video store, choose a video and then return home. Then, as the industry evolved it became possible to download music and movies instead. But even then, this could sometimes take hours and took up a great deal of space on your hard drive. Recently, with the arrival of online audio and visual streaming services, access became instant and the need to download media was no longer a requirement. XRouter enables the same thing. Instead of waiting days to download whole blockchains, (the BTC blockchain is now over 240 GB) XRouter is able to offer instant, decentralized access to any blockchain without the need to download the blockchain, and as is the case with Netflix and Spotify, this saves time and storage space.

The Potential of Cross-blockchain DApps and Multichain Architectures

XRouter allows for the monetisation of inter-chain and multi-chain services.

Supply Chain

In supply chain there will be multiple blockchains being used at various steps of the process much like there is today with traditional software stacks. The Blocknet Protocol and XRouter would allow information to be accessible between these different blockchains. For Example, pharmaceutical manufacturers have strict regulations to follow and need to provide certain information and assurances. Being able to access batch information from the raw materials being consumed, temperature and humidity information during transportation, and final destinations are all important. A smart contract utilizing XRouter to gather this information from each respective chain and write it to the pharmaceutical's blockchain along with the batch code. XRouter would enable this communication to occur in a trustless way, which is important to ensure validity of the information.

Storage and Hosting

If creating a dApp on Ethereum, you may require storage functionality. Ethereum doesn't intrinsically handle file storage very efficiently. In this scenario, XRouter can be used to interact with other blockchains such as Storj, Filecoin, Sia, or Swarm to utilize their storage services.

Media and Content

For content creation, a creator has the option of publishing to the LBRY Credits or Alexandria blockchains. Similar to HootSuite, which is a tool that allows posting to multiple social media platforms simultaneously, a dApp can be created using XRouter that offers the same benefit. The user can post their content once, whether it's audio, video, literature, or art, and have it published to Alexandria's and LBRY Credit's blockchain platform simultaneously.

Markets

There are many blockchains creating decentralized marketplaces including Origami, District0x, OpenBazaar, and Syscoin's marketplace, but the offering of products are relatively low on each independent platform. A dApp that utilizes XRouter to aggregate all the products into a single hub would offer a lot more options to users and a fuller marketplace. It can also make publishing products easier by publishing to all platforms simultaneously through a single form, offering more exposure than posting to a single marketplace while saving time.

Business and Industry

There are many dApps and blockchains that will end up using health data. Rather than submitting health data to each application, a universal EHR (Electronic Health Record) blockchain can be created to manage personal medical data and accessibility of data by each application. The health data on this EHR ledger can be shared amongst healthcare providers, hospitals, and insurance blockchains, dApps, and applications via XRouter.

Certifications

Certifications and licensing records can be stored on a dedicated blockchain where they could be verified by a dApp built on the Blocknet Protocol. These records can be used to confirm qualifications and grant access or permissions.

Finally, Blocknet will be building GoLang and C++ libraries for accessing the XRouter network, so that developers can integrate with XRouter without requiring any Blockchains to be installed. This will allow 3rd parties, companies, and other crypto projects to integrate XRouter in their own chains and applications without installing the Blocknet wallet.

Developers Wanted For The Beginning Of A New Ecosystem

Blocknet enables the creation of a multitude of cross-chain dApps and multichain architectures only limited by developers imaginations. Developers can begin building dApps right now on multiple blockchains and platforms including Hyperledger, EOS, Ethereum, IOTA, Stellar, Cardano, Tron, XRP, Monero, IOTA, NEO, Vechain, NEM, Waves and many more. If you want to build for XRouter or have any questions, please join our Discord or check out our Reddit page.

By building on the Blocknet Protocol, and joining the "Internet of Blockchains," developers will help to evolve a decentralized crypto-ecosystem with a trustless security model, which has the ability to monetize tokens native to any blockchain. In addition, the Blocknet Protocol allows over 100 digital assets to be traded on Block DX, a 100% decentralized exchange dApp built on the protocol where the ability to list an asset is open and free, and your funds are in your control at all times as no third party is ever involved. Cloudchain Inc. is currently implementing a fully decentralized lite (thin) multi-wallet utilizing Blocknet's XRouter protocol.
