Why Proof-of-Work (PoW) Coins Lose Value Over Time—and How Zether Aims to Prevent This

The Issue with Traditional PoW Emission Models
In traditional PoW cryptocurrencies, miners generate new coins continuously, increasing the supply and exerting downward pressure on price. Coins are often issued at a fixed rate, with occasional reward reductions or halving events every few years. For example, a PoW coin launching with a reward of 5 coins per block and a market cap of $500,000 might start at $0.50 per coin. However, by the second month, with the supply doubling, the price would drop to $0.25 unless fresh capital enters to match the increased supply. Without a steady inflow of new investment, prices often fall as supply continues to outpace demand.

Zether’s Unique Emission Model
Zether takes a different approach by front-loading its coin issuance in the early months. Over the first 6 months, Zether will issue about 5.5 billion coins, covering most of the total supply.
