10 POINT RATING AGENCY

I shall collect, in (this thread and maybe on a website later) consolidated information on the Mt.Gox and other services  so that we can make an informed commercial decisions as to whom we deal with and the risk and what to lobby for as well as know our existing rights.

This is particularly relevant in light of service failure, and the recent Gox event where orders could not be cancelled, the information that ratings will be based on are as follows

[1] Jurisdiction of
  • services operations
  • where any dispute would be settled
  • where data is held

[2] A summary of the terms and conditions that each service holds out any you sign up for.
  • eg. cant cancel a order, who pays?
  • cant get funds, and have a trading or consequential loss
  • un-acceptable lag parameter/do not trade warning

[3] Any supervening legislation that may overrule said terms (eg statutory warranties)

[4] Any insurance or other financial instrument, type and quantum held to back up Funds or Bitcoins or other CC's

[5] Encryption schemes for user data

[6] Redundancy, data backup

[7] Hardware/Security

[8] Software

[9] Upgrade path

[10] Customer Service

This will form the basis of a 10 point * (star) rating system.

The Highest rating will be 10, the lowest 0. ? (question marks will equal unknown). So for example at the format (and at the  moment)

Mt.Gox would be

  • BlockChain.info
  • Bitcoin Foundation
  • VirCurEx
  • BTCe
  • SatoshiDice


The rating scheme will likely change due evolution of the rating system, and this information is used at your own risk, but it may be come a focus point of defacto independent review, if enough people, legal, technical, consumer, customer contribute.

Of course this takes a lot of time and effort, and so I can only do it with community interest and help. It may provide some leverage to get the Community view and change and give a voice.

Open to any data or agencies that should be rated. Of course those agencies are free to put their position as succinctly as they can in this thread.
