Yep. It would be a year late, but still, the subject-line of this thread should be renamed for the sake of honesty.

I tried to say this a month ago but Lasse doesn't seem to care.  Makes little difference their prices are unreal anyway IMO.

See the very first line of the original post.
The thread is sending really mixed messages, though. First theres the title of the thread which says "Buy Bitcoins with Scandinavian credit cards", then theres a small line in the message saying you can't buy using card anymore, a large logo saying Instant bitcoins by credit card and another line saying you can't buy using card anymore.

This is not really a very good way to convey a message.

  • Pay using your VISA, VISA Electron, MasterCard, Maestro, or DanKort issued in Denmark, Sweden, or Norway and receive your Bitcoins within one minute.
  • Domestic, SEPA, or international wire transfers to our Danish bank account.
  • Make a cash deposit at our location in Copenhagen.

I don't see the credit card option on the site? Have I missed something?

Oh, imagine how easy it can be to miss things! Smiley Sorry about that.
I automatically started to read the post under the logo there. That was a bit confusing, imo Wink

Really need to rewrite this post or at least edit the subject.  Think I have opened it 3 times thinking maybe you updated (or forgetting I have read it before, oops). Guess that's probably the reason you haven't changed it.

Ever going to make a fast way to obtain BTC in Scandinavia? 24-48 bank transfers are far from optimal and cashU is way overpriced.

Har stadig ikk forstået det? Hvordan overføre man lige penge via  CashU ? Smiley

Bitcoin Nordic is not giving any directions or references to the tracker.

The case is this:

The tracker has inserted a form on their own website which is essentially a copy of our bank transfer form here: https://bitcoinnordic.com/bank-transfer/

Their form submits data to our URL so we receive their form submissions essentially as if from our own website.

What I did was that I asked them to put in a link to Bitcoin Nordic next to the form on their website to get a little advertisement. They did and also wrote "In cooperation with Bitcoin Nordic".

Technically, I see nothing wrong here. But sometimes dealing with authorities, just being technically correct isn't always enough. If this can give people the impression that we somehow endorse or encourage the use of the torrent tracker - and it seems it can since that's the impression Greedi is under - then I should consider asking them to remove the expression "in cooperation with" and perhaps even ask them to remove their own custom form. (Even if I can't make them - creating that custom form submitting to our URL currently requires no cooperation or authorization from us.)

I know, the problem is the "In cooperation with"
How am I cooperating with the tracker any more than I am cooperating with, say, BitcoinStore.com, where my customers can also spend their bitcoins?

If a bank has an ATM on a street corner, then they provide withdrawal of money. The customer can then go on to use that money on whatever the customer wants. Ice cream for his children, or buying narcotics in a dark alley. The bank's responsibility ends when they have given the customer the money.

Now, if the bank wrote on their homepage, or had stickers on their ATM saying that they're facilitating payments to a street vendor of narcotics. For example it said on the ATM: "Two block down towards the park, the blue house, you get all the dope you need!"

Then customers would take offence, it would be in the papers, it would be on the news, the bank would have to say they're sorry, and remove the stickers and the advertisement on their webpage.

If a bank has a branch in a challenged neighborhood, they KNOW that a lot of the money that are deposited and that are withdrawn often are involved in criminal trade. Does that mean that the bank should shut down their branch ? Remove their ATM's ? No! But they're wise about it, they simple provide a service to people. Of course if someone comes into the bank with a large stash, and act all dopey and tell them: "Yo, I'm gonna stash this lot in ma account yo, my dealahs have done good on the street yo!". Then the branch would probably call security and police and have him escorted out.

So it's all about playing it smart. If you know that your technology or service can be used for something nefarious, do not go around advertising it, or make service agreements or official partnerships with providers of questionable goods.

Fimp, I've heard you're a standup guy, but perhaps you're a little bit naive. I don't know the details of all this, but if you announce you're working with a tracker, then you're putting A BIG TARGET on your forehead. And later, when you do presentations, or get interviews by a news paper, they will always ask about how you support piracy and so on. Just don't have any official ties to any of this, and shut down any customers that openly tell you that they're going to use bitcoins for illegal purposes.

Don't be blinded by your own desire to make a profit. It can come back to bite you seriously. Be smart, be safe.

If I wanted to, how would I avoid that people buy bitcoins from Bitcoin Nordic and send them to the tracker? It's in the nature of Bitcoin that I can't decide where my customers spend their coins. Just like a bank can't avoid their customers withdrawing cash and spending them on something that might or might not be illegal.

BitcoinNordic is in collaboration with DK's largest torrent tracker.
It is certainly not smart in this time when Norden is so much up in the torrenting is illegal.

- I certainly can well see the fancy of it ..
- As I'm using this site my self

But, look at it this way.

We have enough problems with that DK is against sweets road, and BTC generalt with it being used for illegal activities?

and now BitcoinNordic in cooperation with the tracker, it comes as to and provide the world's best impression of the Danish State
- You see my point?

intet svar?

Herodes, did you read the quote from me above?

We didn't get any losses whatsoever on VISA or MasterCard payments. And the reason they gave us for cutting us off was not actual chargebacks, but "risk of chargebacks".

Unfortunately there's a big problem with reversible payment methods and exchanging through said mediums to bitcoin. Whenever there's a loophole, you can be sure someone will figure it out and exploit it eventually, after all you might as well be lucky here that you're not suffering more and bigger losses already.

It's a pitty though that VISA and Mastercard is declining bitcoin related businesses to use their systems, as it's a very convenient method for legit users to get bitcoins.

Perhaps if you made a very good risk assesment and required registration by users + verification before they're allowed to use their cards and presented this to VISA and Mastercard, perhaps they would change their mind about you using their systems. Again that would not be as convenient as the current solution was, but would probably reduce the risks.

And as you see, a lot of the exchanges have had problems with bank accounts being frozen, and usually I think this is because of reversed transactions. If an account get enough transactions reversed, then the bank may as well freeze that account.

Good luck with your business going forward!

Yesterday' news:

Quote from: BitcoinNordic
From tomorrow card purchases will be discontinued indefinitely. We hope to reenable the service soon. Until tomorrow, limit per card is 5000.

Reddit discussion: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/uaicw/bitcoinnordic_discontinues_credit_card_purchases/

Quote from: haakon
In an email, they write:

The discontinuation of credit card payments is due to pressure from the VISA and MasterCard organizations. They deem that dealing in a digital means of exchange such as Bitcoin is too risky.
While VISA and MasterCard are some of the most widely used cards, we will be working to accept other cards on Bitcoin Nordic. This newsletter will keep you updated.

Quote from: fimp
We don't have a quote from VISA / MasterCard themselves as we did not deal with them directly.
We accepted their cards through eWire who sent the following message to us this morning:

"We have been contacted by our payment provider regarding Bitcoin Nordic.
We have been required by VISA and Mastercard to shut down your payment solution because of a large risk of chargebacks in this business.
I am therefore forced to shut down your cooperation with Ewire.
It is very unfortunate that this duopoly can force their requirements in this manner but we need to consider our entire business
when we get a message like this because we can lose our payment service if we do not comply."

In the past two months since we started accepting card payments we have processed approximately $50,000 in credit card payments.
To my knowledge there has only been one case of chargeback for about $200 and we covered this case out of our own pockets.
Actually, this case didn't even involve a VISA or MasterCard but a DanKort.
