Er, no, people have tried this many, many times before. And continuously failed, even when trying to sell pixels for a price that is multiple magnitudes lower than this. And 1 pixel per 10 dollars? You must be bloody insane...

All you have to do is upload an image totaling 100 pixels or less on the form at millionbitcenthomepage.com and then post back here with what you put in the email field (could be a note, doesn't have to be an email) and I'll have it skip the transaction check.

Imagine if somebody had created a service like this, but with full bitcoins, back when they were $0.03 each. Whoever created that site would be a billionaire now...

That's a good idea too. I was thinking of doing something a little different, instead of distributing the revenue to organizations accepting bitcoin, just implementing a bitcoin faucet that distributes the income over time to everyone who visits. That will guarantee visitors keep coming back (albeit just to get the free coins). What do you think? I will have to look into how to implementing a faucet in a fair and secure way, I haven't done that before. Any tips?

Are you still offering a free 100 pixel ad?

I think some sort of archives of the image (torrent or some other distributed+decentralized system that can support large amounts of data) could help preserve this. If this could turn into a decentralized system overall(including image submission) it could be worthwhile for the same reasons why this site itself is.

Update: Any (real) organization is now eligible to receive a share of donations from MBH, for-profit or non-profit, as long as they can accept bitcoin. Charitable organizations receive double the normal share. This is to encourage businesses to begin accepting bitcoin. Just contact me at [email protected] to add your organization to the list. See the FAQ for how payouts will be done.

That's hardly proof that I intend to take the money and run after a year. I plan to live in my house for at least another 10 years, but I won't be prepaying the government 10 years of property tax.

The domain registration automatically renews. Why would anyone register a domain name for longer than a year for a project that has yet to launch? Also, I'd prefer to eventually transfer the site to a registrar and host that accepts bitcoin payments so I never have to convert the site's reserves into fiat currency. I think I will be able to do that soon, so why would I pay more than a year in advance now?

I will guarantee the site will be online for at least 5 years, and probably much longer than that. It's already a very easy and cheap site to run, using a reverse proxy caching requests it could serve lots of visitors very cheaply. And hosting costs continue to plunge. While currently it costs around $100 / year to host, I imagine that cost dropping under $10 and probably will eventually be free as all it will have to do is serve static assets. So that leaves the registrar fee - at $10 / year, if the site sells 1 million bitcents, that's enough to fund the site for the next 1,120,000 years at current exchange rates.

As for the price - indeed it is pricey. When I started building the site the exchange rate was around $180 / BTC. I hadn't anticipated it would rise so quickly - I'm not complaining as I've been investing in bitcoin since 2012, but this is obviously not good for the MBH. That's why I'm offering the 50% referral fee and giving 30% away to charitable organizations that accept bitcoin. Maybe I'll make additional accommodations. Either way, it'll be fun to see this experiment play out.

Licking my boob since 1970
Are there any guarantees in how long this website will stay up? It would be cool to know (for example at least 5 years).
It seems a little pricey, if the price of bitcoin goes up any further, it will become very very pricey.

His website claims it will keep your pixels "on this page until the end of the Internet."

But he's only registered the domain for one year.   Roll Eyes

You give to this site and you're just throwing your coins away.

Thanks for checking it out. Just use the site to upload the image you want and click the spot you want it to go, with the link and hover text. In the contact email put some text there (doesn't actually check if it's an email), then respond here with what you put there so I can associate the pixels to you and skip the transaction check.

Hello fellow bitcoiners,

Today I launched MillionBitcentHomepage.com - a site where you can buy pixels on the page @ 1 pixel per bitcent.

It may take some time to fill (if it ever does), but I think once it does it will be interesting to look back upon in the years and decades going forward.

I am not just doing this to enrich myself but hopefully the entire bitcoin community. First, by giving back 50% of income to whoever refers buyers to the site - just sign up with the bitcoin address where you want to receive your commission payments at http://millionbitcenthomepage.com/referrals.

I'm also giving 30% of income to non-profit organizations - but the catch is that they must accept bitcoin donations. This will hopefully get the ball rolling on some larger organizations who may be hesitant or technically inept - after all who can resist free money. Only organizations benefitting the greater good - no political, partisan, religious organizations, etc.

Please check out the site and hit me with suggestions! First 10 replies get 100 pixels (of any dimension) free!

Thanks for reading
