If you truly believed in bitcoins, wouldn't you want to invest in bitcoins?

I would invest in a fund that traded bitcoins but not any other investment types.

C'mon, people.  You're wasting your time debating this.  At best it's a prank, at worst it's a scam.

The OP changed his signature.  Originally it looked like this, with 'Ponzi' instead of 'Hedge Fund':

Move along, nothing to see here folks.

Ah, joke signature backfires?

Or maybe not a joke at all.

I don't get it ? Why would anyone invest into nothing ?

You're wrong, it's not investment into nothing, it's investment in his personal wallet :-)

hahaha Cheesy These get worse and worse Cheesy I'm going to start a investment scheme. All the post is going to say is give me your coins and when you ask for them back I'll tell you to go fuck yourself Cheesy Due to the legal grey area of ripping people off I'm not going to tell you what your investing in but I can guarantee your coins will be safe n my pocket Cheesy

I don't get it ? Why would anyone invest into nothing ? You want people to send you coins for what ? What gain is in it for me ?

You're not investing into nothing. The BTC is converted into $USD and deposited into an account that is SEPARATE from anything Bitcoin.  The investments are a combination of stocks, ETFs, bonds, and derivatives.

At this point, the main concern is trust as opposed to the investment strategy.  See the latest post here: http://bitcoinhedgefund.com/2011/06/25/concerns-of-trust/

This is bullsh*& !! Exactly my point your asking people to invest into something that doesn't exist !! Well it may do but your not showing anything that's worth buying into ? What proof your "stocks, ETFs, bonds, and derivatives" even exist ?

You've setup a simple blog that would take about 15 mins of my time to make and then you only have three posts on their Cheesy All by you and no one has even gave them a sniff yet but you put in one of your blogs "Thank you to everyone for your interest up to this point" ? I haven't seen one bit of interest yet ? So who has shown interest ?

I wouldn't invest in this at all. Just my opinion Wink and another thing does this really belong in project dev ?

Quote: "and we’re nearly ready to accept the first wave of investors. We hope you’re as excited as we are to be able to use BTC for legitimate investments"

I'm so excited I just shit myself Cheesy Why all the secrecy if its a legitimate investment ? Stand back and wait to be washed away by the first wave of investors cough cough mugs. Cheesy

@Bit_Happy
From the "strategy" section of the site:
The funds for Bitcoin Hedge Fund will be held in an actively managed account that invests in a diversified group of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), domestic and international bonds, and derivatives (mainly stock options).  This fund will primarily invest in companies that have appealing fundamental value while seeking to augment gains with various option strategies.  We are not building complex arbitrage systems or investing in privately held companies (at this time).  The purpose is simply for long-term capital appreciation that outpaces the S&P 500.

@Fireball
The only guarantee is the receipt that is emailed immediately after the deposit.  In order to maintain anonymity and protect users from the ubiquity of hacking to BTC-related projects, the information from each of the users is stored separately (far away from) the site.

@Bloody Bell
Please excuse the signature of the post, that is quite embarrassing. I was previously linking to one of those BTC pyramid sites and when I changed my signature, I changed the linking URL without change the anchor text.

To everyone:
If the anonymity of the site and the people behind it was removed, would that be enough to gain your trust?

Anonymously registered domain, simple wordpress site hosted at goDaddy with no information on what they are planning to do with the money except some general bullshitting in a few lines.

Smells like a Ponzi scam...

edit: oh... I just read the signature of the post. wtf?

How do you guarantee that money will be returned? It's a simple anonymous wordpress website, not even mentioning any individual/company name, not to say about providing some guarantees or written contracts. Why would anyone believe you? Respecting anonymousity is cool, but it's cool when it doesn't touch my own money for example.

@Bit_Happy - The Bitcoin Hedge Fund's investment philosophy is evident in the signature.

Allow me to recommend another fund which invests with similar principles, but with a proven track record of exceptional returns:

Announcing the launch of the Bitcoin Hedge Fund -- http://bitcoinhedgefund.com/

Beginning June 24 the Bitcoin Hedge Fund will begin to accept deposits! All transactions in and out of the fund will be entirely in BTC and are intended for long-term capital appreciation.  Please see the site for information on how to invest.

If you're looking for a way to stabilize your income from the volatility of currency exchanges, this is a perfect opportunity.  Once your BTC is finally available from the frozen MtGox accounts, consider making an investment in the Bitcoin Hedge Fund.

Email any questions to [email protected]

From the "How It Works" page:

Bitcoin Hedge Fund respects the anonymity of the Bitcoin community and investors will not be asked for any identity-sharing information, simply an alias and a withdrawal address.  As the legality of this operation remains in a grey area, we will allow the individual investors to decide for themselves how they will report their earnings, but we will supply the information and paperwork necessary to inform your decisions.

Due to the lack of clearly-defined laws regarding our hedge fund, we want to keep the total assets relatively small so we are capping the maximum investment for each investor and the number of investors.  If legislative action makes the Bitcoin Hedge Fund inoperable, all funds will be liquidated, converted to BTC, and sent to the withdrawal address that we have on file.

NOTE: We know that investors can easily get around our maximum investment by creating another email address and wallet, but we recommend that you don’t do this to mitigate your own risk to the process. If you want to deposit more than $1000, please email [email protected] and we can discuss other options.

Because of the volatility of BTC, we are still choosing to measure our investments and growth in $USD.  At the time of your initial deposit we will exchange BTC for $USD, you may choose to have the trade executed at the current market price or set a limit order.

Our initial offering to the Bitcoin Hedge Fund is limited to 200 investors as we test the logistics of these operations. We will plan to have a second offering to investors in the fall and a third offering in the beginning of 2012 as we scale our operations up.

Initial offering:
Minimum investment = $100
Maximum investment = $1000
Maximum # of investors = 200

Deposits made before August 1, 2011 will be held for 90 days before they are eligible to be withdrawn. Deposits made between August 1, 2011 and September 1, 2011 will be held for 45 days before they are eligible to be withdrawn. Any deposits made October 1, 2001 or later will be held for 21 days before they are eligible to be withdrawn. These rules are intact simply for the purposes of maintaining stability and liquidity.

Fees:
There will be no management fees through 2011. A small management fee may be initiated in 2012 (with prior notification) of up to 1%. There is no front-load fee, but there will be a back-load fee of 2%.
