A modification based off your suggestions. I will definitely consider a DOM or 2.5" SATA drive or BAMT via USB. The 3.5" is there for reference. I could have made it really boxy but I like the frame sticking out a bit. It gives it some flair.

And for vertical GPU placement, it can be positioned this way.

It's all about the game, and how you play it

you'll save space/power by using a DOM instead of a Hdd, move the psu over and you'll have a smaller/cheaper design overall
this is a good example of a relatively large and inexpensive one

That's almost the exact design of my rig, but mine takes up less area by:

- raise the cards a slight bit (to allow the PSU under them)
- use a 2.5" drive & rotate it 90°
- bring the PSU closer to the drive (under the cards)

IMHO that empty space next to the PSU is just wasted.

Yes, some GPUs blow air out in both directions.  The fan direction I currently have in the model is just to get a feel of the design. I can change the direction of air flow depending on the GPUs I use.

That's exactly how I arranged my rig  Grin

But I am wondering about the fans in your and some other rigs.

The cards (at least in my rig, 4 Sapphire 7950s) blow hot air into 2 directions:

1. to the opposite side of the cards as where the fans are, so through the bottom of the card and so unfortunately to the fans of the next card which suck in the hot air from the previous card
2. out of the back of the card.

In your pics it looks like you have your fans directed to the back of the cards. If you blow with your fans in the direction of the back of your cards, I think you blow the hot air back into the card.

So what I did, I put one large fan in FRONT of the cards to blow cold air through and between them , which works very well. Another advantage is that I need only this one fan to cool the cards, the mobo and the PSU.

What do you folks think? I'm working on a rig case using 80/20.
