but damn....1-2c kwh jeez..but no frigging way I can get an R4 as nothing more than a toy and hope for a BTC pump.....at a 12 month ROI point....too bad thou.

Problem with the R4 is that it's almost IDENTICAL price with the 11.85 GH S9  version, offers less than 3/4th the hash for the same money AT THE SAME EFFICIENCY.

The ONLY pluses to it are (1) quieter (2) smaller power draw makes it a LITTLE more flexable on where you can put one.

IMO it's NOT worth the major $/h premium you pay for the thing for the minor advantages it offers.

It's too bad nobody makes an efficient SHA256 miner on the order of the Baikal one for X11/X13/etc - THOSE would sell like hotcakes to HOME miners, small VERY low power draw and EASY to make quiet with such a low power draw per miner.....

If I could order this with my paypal account using my discover card.
the warranty would be extended 1 year to 1 year and 90 days. I need to check this to be sure but I think it is true.
My power is not 1 cent even with the solar array.

If I had a 15 month warranty and 1 cent power.  This makes some sense see below

some roi charts

1 cent power 2% diff jumps

1 cent power 3% diff jumps

1 cent power 4% diff jumps

Indeed you are living a golden kwh life (as I am green with envy at my 14c kwh now in summer and maybe 11c kwh this winter (oct 15th starts) ...so I can only get
by using scrypt miners and got lucky and found 1 corp default on eBay to likely pay knc class action this summer new nov 2013 unit at 1750 usd plus 75 bucks my share
of shipping (split with maxumark) and the dumb luck ask about RMA stuff on the bankruptcy thru kurt's head tech old email account (emails on main page never replied to us)
and the law firm tripped over us thus putting us down as one of 6to 8 vetted vendors and got we 24 new ones 400mh Titans.....of which I got 6 of them....you just can't discount being dumb and lucky)

anyway the R4 IF say folk were to come to the conclusion that BTC difficulty due to halving was to flatline some due to too much BTC mining equipment...then maybe
at my 14c kwh rate i could play the game of roi in 10-12 months (with a hope of BTC pump) and then mine the thing after ROI thru the year after ...like the game I've
been playing with scrypt mining of LTC with Titans...but alas this seems unlikely...folk have been saying to me they expect at least a 50% to 100% difficulty rise in BTC difficulty anyway
so that dog don't hunt.

But works damn well at your kwh rate I have to tell you.....(damn I need to move where you live.....sheesh) Then again you probably are in a warm climate...I heated my house
last year at 3000 watts and now have at home 6000 watts so that is dang helpful to the ROI......so hell maybe there is another price point on the R4 between my 11c kwh
likely winter rate and heat the house and your 1-2c kwh rate....space heater benefits are real if you have more than a couple of such Smiley

but damn....1-2c kwh jeez..but no frigging way I can get an R4 as nothing more than a toy and hope for a BTC pump.....at a 12 month ROI point....too bad thou.

My advice to everybody is to wait a while before buying, in case there are problems with the R4. Given the fact that Bitpain doesnt give a damn about customers and support its a wise thing to just wait.
The price might even drop a bit (i hope a lot) which is a good thing.....let them feel the pain instead of us bleeding all the time.

@gt_addict That's an idea, just noticed the 860 has only 6 ports, the R4 requires 7 and the 1200 has 8... :/ maybe adventure on a splitter for the controller... Shocked

Or a molex -> PCIe for the controller if you don't trust PCIe splitters.

@tbonetony Too late, also I'm in it for the knowledge. You learn nothing by buying a heater and BTC except how miserable you become when you become rich or loose it all, loose/loose situation right there.

@Unacceptable ROI is relative to the future price of BTC if you keep them.

Well,go ahead & buy 5 or 6 of em,it's your money your tossing around  Cheesy

I'm getting a Corsair AX1200i if my Corsair AX860 can't boot this to run it underclocked.

Expensive affair this, 1395$ + 25% VAT + PSU...

But free heat and anonymous FIAT -> BTC exchange makes it worthwhile.

Specially at peak lithography!

You may consider putting the same amount of money into a 800W heater and the remaining to purchasing bitcoins.

Just power one board to start it then underclock it to a suitable freq, power off, plug both boards in and adjust the freq until it runs on your ax860 Wink

i made this post  after this one https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitmain-announces-the-antminer-r4-and-apw5-power-supply-designed-for-silence-1597639, i didn't see it, but the way it looks you can it comes with one according to the tweet and this post https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitmain-announces-the-antminer-r4-and-apw5-power-supply-designed-for-silence-1597639 ,  if your asking to save cash.

I don't think it gonna be sold with out  A PSU but no idea what the price is yet, unless you do some math, then it might be 1000 $ or around there, other wise it's guessing.

The Bitmain guy said 1300$ is "best estimate for now but it might change", i believe. (In the announcement thread)

I just wonder how "silent" this really is. After all, "quiet" for them is 80dB, so "silent" could be 60dB Tongue

IF that's the price i won't be getting one . i can't afforded it one reason and my other reason and why i never bought a S7 and could have the price is to high,(it's a mortal thing )even if i could afford this, i wouldn't and i would buy one or two more A6 s first, I like them more . I honestly believe Avalon is a better company, so far, there not giving me a lot of shit over getting parts, if I  need them . and have sent me some free parts bitmain wouldn't .

Your right about the price that's  with the PSU, it might cost 1300 .

Power supply is extra. Best estimates are $1000 for the miner and $300 for PSU (may change.), so that makes it temping .

i have lots of break out boards and PSU's im not using now, it's cheaper for me to order a PSU off ebay for 30 bucks tops with free shipping that will run this with out issue no noise then pay them 300 .

there are good 1000 watt psus  even some good 1200 watt ones  that are about 150-175  and they are quiet.

My S7ln set to 475m and 20% fans runs at about 65db. That's only 5db above ambient noise and perfectly quiet to have in my room.

If you back if off to 8th  and lower the fan a bit it will be quiet.
