ah ok, makes sense!
might be worth sending him over an email see what he says about it. when the unit starts up the fan seems to go really fast at first which could be an issue if i have to restart in the middle of the night ouch!

thank you for that. my other carer, who's my first carer's friend, is a builder and knows about electronics, but not bitcoin miners, hopefully with my knowledge of miners, and his knowledge of electronics, we can do something with it.

Basically you'd be looking to make it so it draws less power, so you could run the rans at lower speeds, while not messing with the hash rate too much. Also, Sidehack himselfs sells modded S7s that run much quieter:

You can look at the thread here, but it requires (some) knowledge of basic electronics engineering concepts:

thank you for the info!
I'll get my carer to have a look at the video and see what she thinks. in the mean time have set the fan to 40% and freq to 400, hopefully the miner wont blow!

Hello all, sorry if this is in the wrong place, not sure if it's supposed to be in hardware, or tech support? Mods if it's in the wrong place please can you move it for me.

OK, so I just got an s7 off ebay, and am absolutely delighted, free electric here so no worries about mamoth bills, the housing provider can have those for all I care as they are pretty useless! OK rant over, so I have my shiny new second hand miner which is hashing happily, generating crypto and basically doing all I want it to, apart from the shrieking noise coming from the fan, the very loud whirring and basically much more noise than the s5, and will probably cause my neighbours to hate me, tell the manager, who will take great deligh in reeking her spiteful revenge upon me by telling me "you can not! have that! get rid of it this minute!" and send my new hashing friend away from me, causing me to pine terribly.

So, has anyone got any ideas how I can safely, dampen, quieten the noise, with either new fans or other methods that are easy and none obtrusive to do in a rented flat, I can't do vents out the window and stuff like that, the whole idea is to ensure that no one knows I'm mining in here! the person who soled the miner to me was really helpful, he said some people have been putting the miners in cooler boxes and drilling holes to let the air out, but concerned the miner might overheat and blow in said box? my carer is very worried about them blowing so not sure she'd go for the idea anyway for safety's sake, whats everyones take on this?
can I get a quieter fan fitted to the unit, and how easy would this be to do, taking into account the fact I'm totally blind so a bit of guidance would be very helpful!

What I'm doing at the moment, I don't know if it's safe though! Is running the miner fan at 30 per cent, frequency 700, and the chips are at 77 degrees, seems to run and hash fine at this temp/frequency, and its set to stop mining if temp hits 80, is this a problem, i.e. will my miner decide to blow up and cook the whole building, as I don't really want to be cooked and leave a horrible smell as my last gift to the world, to be honest!
I'm based in the UK, so any sellers/sole traders of mining equipment who could help, I'd again be very grateful.
thank you for any help,
take care all

I have a youtube  set of videos.

it is bascially a tunnel maybe you cab build one behind a couch.

also you can  set the freq lower to 400  and the fan to 40%
