Hi Gurus,

I just purchased a Lenovo Legion Y540 Nvidia GeForce 1660 Ti 6GB laptop which I intend to use for mining but the McAfee Antivirus that came installed on it has been flagging the T-Rex miner blocking me from mining. Please I need suggestions on which antivirus I can install that I can configure to allow me mine on my machine. Thanks in anticipation. Cheers
That is a very costly laptop, becareful you might end up shorting its life span, the issue with antivirus blocking miner softwares will happen with every single antivirus out there, all you can do is go into the antivirus settings and whitelists the blocked miner softwares or files

1. Laptops, even those for gaming, handle heat worse than desktops [so it's usually a bad deal to mine, especially 24/7 with a laptop]
2. OP never said anything about his electricity price and I want to remind that if the electricity is not very cheap then he will mine at a loss [may be cheaper to buy the coins]
3. A proper antivirus can properly handle exceptions / white list. I use Comodo because it's free for home user and I have everything I need added to exceptions.

Apologies for continuing offtopic but the original question was well answered.

GPU mining on a laptop is just as bad as CPU mining. A laptop designed for gaming may
hande heat better, but still not continuous 100% load.

It's a thermal tradeoff. Either the heat accelerates aging or the thermal throttling reduces
mining performance. You lose either way.

Buying a laptop just for mining? I hope not. They cost more, perform worse and age faster than a desktop
and can't be expanded.

Even part-time mining on a laptop is a bad idea. Make sure you have extra cooling.

Mining over wifi also has its issues.

If you're doing it for money, you'll lose. A single 1660ti, especially a mobile one, won't make
enough revenue to be significant, let alone profitable.

If you're doing it for fun you're better off with an old desktop with a decent GPU.

Pretty sure he just didn't buy it for mining primarily. Most likely he is a gamer and bought a gaming laptop (jugding by the GPU included) and just wants to mine when the laptop is not in use.

I know that CPU mining on a laptop is a bad idea, but GPU mining on a gaming laptop? Might not be so bad as long as he removes the battery to prevent it from overheating and leaking and exploding.

Normaly you can whitelist files or Software there on antivirus.
You should be can do that in the settings in your antivirus software.
After that there should be no problem that you can use the Miner and can start mining,
if this dosnt work and you are using the Laptop only for mining you can disable the Antivirus software too .
