I guess I just don't understand why the unit would not just increase the fan speeds. The temp sensors are working, so it knows what the temps are. The fans can be speeded up more - as I have successfully tested that they can actually run faster. Is there some setting in some config file that should be checked/changed? Or, is this indicative of some kind of power issue? Other? If I manually speed the fans up to near the same speed as the other unit, the temps fall closely in line. It seems like a setting issue to me. But I don't know the internals of where to look, what to check for, etc...

I've tried to find a definitive answer. For the Antminer L3+, what is a good operating temperature to keep the chips and board at? Between 40c-50c, 45c-55c, 50c-60c, etc? Also will keeping the fans on auto, speed the fans up to keep the Antminer L3+ chips and board within Bitmain's operating temperature ranges? From what I've seen it does, or should I just run the fan at a static percentage to keep the temps at the lowest level possible. If thats the case why not run the fans at 80-100% all the time if noise is not an issue.

Never run fans at 100% wastes money and does not cool any better then 95%.

If your high side chip numbers are under 70c your fans are fast enough.

I shoot for 65c max .

I set fans static at 60% if I don't care about noise.
but if noise matters I set fans as low as 25%
I use undervolt feature from jestefanop thread

Because, as mentioned, those temps are relatively low. Whatever software you're using has it's levels out of line for an Antminer.

Sorry for the very late response - I didn't see that I had activity on my thread Sad

I am not using any particular software - this is what I am seeing by using the miner's own GUI - no 3rd party software of firmware involved. That's why I don't get it. If the firmware on the two miners is at the same version, and the temperature sensors are working, then why are the miners operating the fans so differently? They are setting right next to each other. Same ambient temperature. Same model. Same firmware. Yet one runs the fans faster and keeps the temps lower and the other does not. I would like them to run similarly. If one is running the fans overly fast - that is using more power and costing profits. If the other is running to slow, it will cause it to overheat sooner when weather gets warmer.

I don't like setting the fan percent directly - as is doesn't allow the fans to adjust properly based on changing ambient temps. So, to be safe I have to run the fans on the fast side in case of higher ambient temp changes throughout the day - costing me extra money in power and probably reducing the fans life expectancy.

I just want to understand why this is happening and how to correct it. One of these machines in not operating it's fans properly.

Your temps are well under the danger levels. The difference in temps is probably due to bitmains poor QA practices. Often times you will have a board or two with crooked heatsinks that mess with air flow and create hot spots on the board. There really isnt anything to be done about it, thats just the bitmain lottery.

I just got 2 Antminer L3+ units. Both have the same firmware version. They are connected to the same outlet with ample power supplied (they are running on a 30amp 240V circuit all to themselves at the moment). Power cords are properly sized and are running cool. But, one unit is running the fans at 2600/3550rpm. The second unit is running them at like 2400/2600rpm. The second one is thus running about 12°C warmer than the first. Temps on the first unit are staying in the 40°C area, and the temps on the second one are staying around the 52°C area. Monitoring software I am running puts this in the "yellow" range (green-good, yellow-borderline, red-bad). They have the option to set a manual override fixed % for how fast the fans run. So on the second unit if I set that to 75% - both fans are running at about 3500rpm (100% gives 4620rpm). So the fans work - they will both spin up to the 4620 at 100%. So I am at a loss as to why one miner is running so much warmer than the other. Everything seems to be the same between the two and everything seems operational - fans, temp sensors, hashing, etc... Why doesn't the software ramp the fans up to bring the temps lower? I do not want to leave the fans fixed at a set percentage as the area where I am running them fluctuates in ambient temps quite a lot and the fans being auto adjusted to cool the unit is preferred. The current ambient temps that all these stats are from was around 60°F. But this space could go up to mid 70's at times, so the fans really need to kick up in during those highs.  Any ideas?
