I ended up solving the issue. For those that are curious and future Mac users I will briefly document what I was doing wrong:

It seems that for whatever reason my Mac was not recognizing the Antminer S1 when they were directly connected by ethernet. After connecting the Antminer directly to the router instead, I was able to log in to my router and discover the Antminer's IP address and then log in from there.

yes because your router has   192.168.1.1    as its address.

so the mac auto finds that .1.

then since the miner has  192.168.1.99    all are on the .1.   roadway and communication works.   do your self a favor and

down load ip scanner  from the apple store the free version or spring for the home version

you can find all your gear and never have conflicts   ie two s-3's with matching addresses or one s-3 matches a pc  they won't work due to conflict

Hey all,

I recently purchased an Antminer S1 and I'm having some trouble setting it up. When I type the IP address into my browser I get a "webpage is not available" message. I'm on a mac and it seems that most of the tutorials for these miners are geared towards Windows or Linux. I was wondering if anyone had any advice?
