What is the typical problems of S2 miners ?

1) Hashboards becoming unseated during shipping (resolved with new setup)
2) Miner doesn't retain settings after power cycle (resolved with new firmware or using a different microSD card)
3) Cabling becomes unseated during shipping (open up and reseat cables)
4) Hashboards sometimes don't report temperature or don't show in the web gui (power cycle/reboot otherwise hardware defect)
5) Fans sometimes don't report speeds (no known solution yet though may be a wrongly configured diode)
6) Runs quite hot and pretty damn noisy.

These are the problems I faced. I own currently 4xS2s. Am happy with them though Cheesy

Hope this helps.

Agree with the above. Very happy with our 2 units.

A few days ago we had 1 PSU die... went with a 1250 server PSU no issues now. Testing the back up genset / battery switch over now with this new PSU. Will report back.

Had power outage diesel pick up after battery switch over must have pooched the S2 units somehow. Given the other servers in the DC had no issues think is a good suggestion to have server PSUs as back up for S2s. 1200W+ is what we think is better the 1000W seems to be at the margin and not enough overhead if running 24/7 - 365.

telling them how?

the only way i have been made aware of is to snip the blue &/or white wires.

this would have to be a last resort though.

if the sensor is not on the IO board i can only assume its on the power board which could be easily replaced....i assume

Im searching now, I remember a mod that you could SSH and input, just looking for it.

can you tell me where the heat sensor/s is/are located?

i have tried getting this info from bitmain for a few days but i dont think he actually knows much about the rigs at all.

my 4th (latest) rig is overheating and the fans are cutting out and in and out and in constantly above 65C

so far i can just about control the heat with a 16inch fan blowing right into the rig but its quite unsightly and not a 'long term' fix.

at bitmains request i swapped out the IO board with a functioning rig but this has not made any difference to either rig.

can you help?

When I get back Ill take a picture of the sensor spot , but that may not help, you may be better off telling the fans to run at 100% all the time.

If anyone is having Antminer S2 problems and is out of warranty, or potentialy doesnt want to ship it back to China . Let me know , I may be able to help you fix your unit or take it off your hands for parts.

Thanks and have a great day,
