S1-your own power supply.
S2-same chips as S1, big case, power supply.
S3-your own power supply.
S3+-same chips as S3, but overclocked.
S4-same chips as S3, big case, power supply.
S4+-same chips as S3, more chips than S4.
S5-your own power supply.
S5+-your own power supply, over three times more chips than S5.
S6-no big case with power supply using the same chips as S5.
S7-the newest chips.

You forgot S3++ miner
True. I did not know it was an S3++. It seems it was sold only in some countries.

Feel to me like they finished up the chips they had with the S5+ which fill the niche of what the S6 would be if they kept the tick tock rate.

Hence why i find it very possible the S6 or maybe S8 if they skip the S6 altogether, whatever next even # form factor they come up with, will be with BM1385.

Its just that the S4+ fill that niche for now.

They will probably milk the expensive S7 at crazy markup until competition come out. And then slam them back to the ground (again) with a S6 form factor of undervolted BM1385.

The S4+ was NOT an S6.
WRONG CHIP GENERATION.

Dogie, why do you keep repeating that claim?
YOU should know better.

altcoin, there never was a S6 except PERHAPS as a prototype.
It's VERY unlikely that Bitmain ever deployed a significant number of them to Hashnest, or they would probably have offered them for sale as well.
It was skipped, or arguably the S5+ was the "S6" but Bitmain chose to name it differently due to the different form factor.

"decided not to offer the S6"  - he did not say they did not build, but they did not offer the S6

it mean not build and not offer s6 to the market. that's the writing style of journalism.

We really don't know and likely never will.  The S5+ easily could have been called the S6. So maybe they just liked the plus since no PSU's were included.

Also I'm sure they have miners they do dev on and never make more then a few prototypes.  Could there have been a S6 prototype?  Again we will never know.
i agree with you. company as big as bitmaintech surely have a few prototypes, and again we never know about it  Wink

I believe the S5+ was basically your S6

The S4+ was "basically your S6". The S5+ was basically your 3xS5+ on steroids.

Also there's at least three or four S6 threads already in the speculation forum. This didn't really need a new thread.

The S5+ was a test platform for the S7 form factor (3 boards using smaller heat sinks), and probably a way to use up the remainder of the older chips.  It was successful in both those, as well as pissing off a good amount of miners given the price and the quick release of the S7 shortly after.

I think it's unwise to try and carefully parse what a journalist wrote from an interview. It's also had to see why it would matter. If they didn't sell it, does it matter if it's being used internally somewhere?

Since we don't know what  chip would have been used, I think 15TH is wildly optimistic.

This might be better done in the Speculation sub-forum.

Do you think Bitmaintech made the S6, but decided run them on hashnest and not to sell to the public?

I started thinking this based upon the comment from this interview:
http://insidebitcoins.com/news/exclusive-interview-with-jihan-wu-of-bitmain-on-s7-block-size-debate-and-more/34658

"decided not to offer the S6"  - he did not say they did not build, but they did not offer the S6.  He might have meant the same thing, or not.

Anyhow, I bet the S6 could crank out 15TH per unit, that would be sweet.

Would love to have a couple hundred of those.  Jihan, pm me!  Smiley
