If you're thinking of dropping the clock anyway, you should look into hacking the voltage as well and drop the power draw quite a bit more. On most 135-chip S7s it's possible to get around 4TH around 900-1000W.

Yup, that's why I got into mining: dumpster diving...  Roll Eyes

Yeah, I'll just recommend a couple 10 dollar fans and done.  Cheesy

cardboard egg cartons are GREAT..lots of them...collect free from neighbours and restaurants.
Old army surplus blankets..HEAVY wool...Old heavy drapes from staging/sound companies
Old drapes from hotels or conference centres upgrading
Old Pillows cushions Old sofas
Dumpster diving at construction sites for scrap and surplus foam insulation and wood for framing..
old acoustic panels and office divider panels from scrap office surplus depots.
ALL FREE

That's actually very ingenious. I'm not going to be using this for mining but I'm going to try these ideas out for other reasons!

The other option of course would be Roxul. It's not free by any means though.

No it's hopeless...now sell me your S9's...

I love this topic..because it is so obvious none of the people asking are musicians...therefore I have no pity..
It is ridiculously cheap and easy to make a TINY sound proof room that can totally muffle 100db of thrashing drums and guitars piano let alone a MUCH LESS NOISY S9 Bitcoin  Vacuum cleaner. You can even use the clothes dryer vent to evacuate all the pot smoke...oopppss I mean heat of course...

Report back once you've modded your S7 and let us know how it went.   Cool

Will do, temps are more important, so reading up, order a few fans to experiment.

Looks like you can get 4.0-4.2Th and 'virtually silent..ish'..lol

Cheers

You can do it, I did.  Not silent by any stretch, but much better.  Change the fans - scythe works well - lower the hash speed and then you can lower the fan speed.  I had my S7 in the spare room. You could hear it, but it was better than stock.  Check the S5 and S7 hardware threads and you'll see lots of messages about it, including mine, with specific fans and settings to use!

Hi All

I have a few S7's lying about that were at a place of work but i have since replced with S9's...

I was thinking instead of selling i could use them at home BUT the noise would be a concern....

I am sure i seen a thread on here that someone had adjusted frequency/Fan levels and had a decent hashrate/temps ?

Anyone have any experience of this ?

I don't want to purchase a PSU if it's not viable.

Thanks
