Where are the temp sensors and what would happen if the Ethernet side and power side were reversed flow?

Interested in reversing the airflow also. Anybody try this yet?

I did for a few minutes... temps reported were way lower.  That's why I asked about temp sensor placement, if he are at one end, then they either read hotter since they are last to get air, or cooler if they are first.  I imagine bitmain planned for this and thats why temp tolerances are what they are.  Worried that the "cooler" reading may in fact be hotter chips.  Anyone know for sure?

I switched cables on my S9 to the 2nd fan config, and now both fans are spinning less quickly and still maintaining the same temperatures.    Fan Noise has decreased noticeably.

For me (my s9) its "First Fan Config".
The labels say fan6 and fan5 but the software shows fan6 and fan3.

I switched both plugs multiple times and try to "feel" the different with my hand on the output fan, so i figured out witch connector is for front/back, but thats just a guess  Wink


Thank you.   Do you know what type of S9 you have and when it was manufactured?   Also, do you know the version of the controller board?  For example 1.19 or 1.20?

Doing some more research with photos online, it appears there are definitely at least two different types of controller cards for the S9 - one with fan connectors closer to the intake fan, and one with the fan connectors closer to the exhaust fan.


As far as I can tell, the old S9s had their fan connectors closer to the intake fan, and the new S9s have their fan connections closer to the exhaust fan.


Here is a pic of the old controller board:




Here is a pic of the new controller board:




So now lets limit our discussion of which fan connector to use to the new controller board.

Here in an example of first fan configuration on the new controller board:

First Fan Config:
Intake is Closest to Ethernet Port = Outside/Edge Connector labeled Fan 6
Exhaust is Farthest from Ethernet Port = Inside/Middle Connector labeled Fan 5




Second Fan Config:
Intake is Closest to Ethernet Port = Inside/Middle Connector labeled Fan 5
Exhaust is Farthest from Ethernet Port = Outside/Edge Connector labeled Fan 6




So for the new controller board, which Fan Config is correct?

I think your image is correct in showing that the intake fan should spin faster than the exhaust fan.   But which fan gets plugged into which connector?  

Take a look at these two examples:

Example 1 - Exhaust Fan connected to inside fan connector.


Example 2 - Exhaust Fan connected to outside fan connector.



So I am not sure how to tell if my AntMiner S9 fan is connected properly...

How can you tell which fan is spinning quicker?

I am concerned that my fans may be hooked up incorrectly.

if I face the S9 from the air intake side (so the controller board is farthest away from me) then the power connector on the left (closest to the edge of the device) goes back to the air intake fan and the power connector on the right (closest to the middle of the board) goes to the air exhaust fan.

Is that the way it should be hooked up?

In my miners the fan on the opposite side of the Eth port is often running faster. I guess it's to create negative pressure inside.

All you should have to do is switch the plugs.

Bitmain only uses a single fan spec, its the software the underdrives one of them.

Not the connections, you need to move the fans themselves.

If the out sucking fan is now set to 6000 and the in pumping one on 4000 and i just change both cable/connection ... the software will adress the right fans. 6000 to pump in and 4000 to suck out. Or do i think in the wrong direction?

Not the connections, you need to move the fans themselves.

Yours are reversed. The fans should be pulling air in from the ethernet side at 6000 rpm and the exhaust fan should run slower.

As I understand it the push fan should be the higher rpm fan, so it seems reversed.  Others have complained of this lack of QC...  Tongue

Hello,

how are the s9 fans supposed to work?
If there is 100% fan speed is the "front" fan (sucking out the air) supposed to run at 6000+rpm and the back fan(under the ethernet port, pushing the air inside) at around 4000rpm? Or the opposite way?
I think the fans are wrong plugged in my case, btw. its the 13.5 TH/s model.
