Hi kabwasi!

I am a farmer and developed some method to grow any crop without irrigation. I talked about it on a previous thread: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/anyone-interested-in-agriculture-1420163

Not a farmer - don't have the land and the knowledge to be one.

But I'm starting to grow a few produce in my small backyard.

Hopefully I'll be successful at growing my own tomatoes, calamansi and herbs.

Then maybe it can be a starting experience for me to eventually have a farm which I actually dream of for my future.

What would be the potential of a 'surrogates like' farming app/operation? I see people playing farming games, What would be needed to interface a farming game with reality? So the lazy armchair farmer can finance the crops of an actual farmer, and share in reaping the rewards?

Grow non-GMO niche crops.

yeah. that idea's got potential but you either need to self distribute and market or you're in the hands of assholes again. they've all throw it in now but that would be the way if I was in that position now.

I see the issue is needing to cater to the public.. for profit to pay your bills.
Not a farming concept..

Some people farm to sustain themselves not sell food to people.
And i agree with Gleb's niche comment if you want money.. may be a viable way around the monopoly.

My grandparents moved from Holland in 1959 i think and setup a vineyard growing grapes making wine in Canada.
They did well and were an eastern pioneer for "ice wine"
My name is on the bottle sold in liquor stores all over  Cool

My own farming mostly has involved growing tomato like plants indoors for my own consumption.
I have used both dirt & clay pellets with Metal Hallide & High Pressure Sodium Bulbs.

How many of us here farm?

Hi, I'm a farmer Grin

What do you farm?

I use a piece of land located somewhere in town, once I had a pig farm, but had to stop because my muslim neighbors reported me to the local authorities for disturbing them... though they did not report another neighbor who had a poultry farm and another neighbor who had some fish ponds in his backyard. Both farms were larger than my small pig farm of about 11 medium-sized pigs... but then life goes on.

So I planted vegetables, cassava and the likes... weeding it regularly  Grin

Why did you go into farming?

I enjoy farming, producing my own things brings satisfaction to me.

my family were farmers. back in the day you could make a real living from it. these days with supermarkets hammering prices, protectionism and globalization the only way farmers come out on top in the west is if they hung on to their land and then sell it, probably to some evil corporation. I reckon the infection of corporatism into farming is gonna bite us on the ass some day.

i always wanted to get into backyard farming like the ones i've seen on TV where they've set up hydroponic system. This is where they grow veges and at the same time the waters that flows to the veges are from the pond full of fishes like tilapia.

anyone is doing this?

I'm sure my ancestors (asia) were farmers. In Europe now though it's a bit shit to be a farmer, you can still make a living but that's it, you're at the mercy of low prices and you can't really do anything about it.

Kilosu migrosta $ 4 purple milk, wholesalers our best purple plums are 40 cents.Until that fruit is collected, medicine, fertility, worker, collection work is not as easy as you might think. Those who deal with this work leave the house at 6 o'clock in the morning and enter the house at 8 o'clock. It works under the sun.Although the sales prices of the state are quite the same as the stock market, it is urgently required that the buyer price policy be taken into consideration for those women who have recovered from the distant villages.
