you need to use CGminer and not GUIminer ;p

install SDK 2.1 and catalyst 11.10

ssateneth, you are the MAN!!

I've been fighting a 5970 for about a week on an issue similar to this, except with the BitMinter client.  It was giving me about 670 MH/s using every driver I tried.  I extracted "ATIStreamSDK_dev.msi" from "ati-stream-sdk-v2.1-vista-win7-64.exe" and installed it.  Two new GPUs showed up in the list, and using those I'm getting about 745 MH/s now.

Thanks!

Yup, I actually changed it to 12 somewhere along the way, can't remember when or who told me to when I did but I've got very few stale shares on the pools I've tested out.

Got my 2nd 5970 sitting here now but I won't be getting the AX1200 until Tuesday or Wednesday... *sigh*

Was thinking about running to Microcenter and buying one to use 'til then and then returning it lol but that'd be a douchey thing to do.

Guess I'm just stuck losing out on like half a week of mining with this one...

20 aggression is way too high, you'll trigger TDR (driver crash) and get a lot of stales. I wouldnt go higher than 12 for 2.1 and 14 for 2.4+

Worked.

They hit 350-400 mhash/s now for each core.

Seems to settle in around 390ish mhash/s once it's warmed up.

As for the latest kernels, do they just come packaged with Phoenix 1.7.5?  (I just downloaded that and unzipped the contents into the GUIMiner folder)

Thanks.

Thanks will give the SDK 2.1 a try.

I did down the clocks to 850/300 @ 1075mV and switched the flag to

-k phatk VECTORS BFI_INT AGGRESSION=20 WORKSIZE=128

This seems to have bumped me up to ~700 mhash/s.

Do you think getting another 50-100 mhash/s is possible by trying your suggestions?  Or are those kinds of mhash/s from bumping up the clocks even more aggressively?  Would rather not if I didn't have to.

Look for SDK 2.1. Dunno if you're using win7 x64 but the thing you want to download is ati-stream-sdk-v2.1-vista-win7-64.exe. Don't run that, but instead use something like WinRAR to extract it (or maybe if you run it, it'll extract it to C:\ati, i dunno. I just saw it wanted to install lots of garbage). Navigate to the folder it got extracted to. Navigate through the folders Packages\Apps\ATIStreamSDK_Dev_win764a and run ATIStreamSDK_dev.msi. Install it. You -may- need to reboot after installing it in order for it to be detected (Use GPU caps viewer to verify). You'll also need to restart your guiminer if GPU caps detects the second OpenCL platform called ATI Stream. You should now have a second platform available in guiminer; it'll probably look like 0-0 cypress, 0-1 cypress, 0-2 CPU, 1-0 CPU, 1-1 Cypress, 1-2 Cypress. Use 1-1 and 1-2 and that will mine on the much faster 2.1 sdk. Also assuming you have the latest phoenix + kernels instead of the one that comes with guiminer, you can use the short parameters of "-k phatk2 VECTORS AGGRESSION=12" since bfi_int and worksize are automatic and other arguments are unneeded.

gl

btw 150mhz memory may be too low. people swear on memory = 1/3 core speed, but i found absolute fastest speed occurs around 375 memory but has stability problems, so I have it on 330 memory instead.

Here's an example of a 3 card setup on Win7 x64 with guiminer, phoenix 1.7.4, phatk 2.2, 11.12 drivers, 2.1 SDK on a 5870 @ 1090/330 + 5830 @ 1040/330 + 5830 @ 1025/330.

Just got my 5970 in the mail and got it set up and it's getting me ~550 mhash/s using GUIMiner (2 tabs of Phoenix miner).

Got MSI Afterburner and have it at 1075mV, 900MHz core, 150MHz memory.  Temps showing at ~70-75C @ 60% fan speed.  The profiles don't seem to save and set correctly but that's not a big deal, I'll worry about that later (disabled ULPS already).

The GUIMiners tabs are using 0-0 and 0-1 so that's not it.  CPU Affinity is set to 0, 2, 4, 6 and no CPU cores are hitting 100% so don't think that's it either.  Could it be GUIMiner?

Flags: -k phatk -q 6 AGGRESSION=11 WORKSIZE=64 BFI_INT VECTORS -a 1000 (Dunno, just did a bit of a mashup of flags that other people posted lol)

Current system (not a dedicated miner rig): i7-920 @ 2.66GHz (should I overclock it for mining?), 12GB (6 x 2GB) RAM, Corsair HX620W, Windows 7 64-bit

Got Catalyst 12.1 (read that SDK 2.6 isn't good but would it cause me to lose out on like 200 mhash/s?).

Thanks for any suggestions.  Got another 5970 coming on Friday so would like to figure this out before then.  That and I have to see if I can find a used AX1200 as well.
