When I did it, it took 2-3 days, if I remember correctly. They were weekdays. This was back in like... May, if it matters.
Yes of course it does not work during week ends.

I guess they don't work on the weekends.. Submitted my Doc's for validation Friday morning and as of today still Pending Validation...
Took a day for me, last week. But as you said, they probably don't have people doing validation on weekends.
