We need much more technological advancement than these non significant forks.

Well, we all are expecting to see a good year for bitcoin during 2018, but if not.. the price has already increased by a lot of money, i mean, it increased by more than 19 times in just a YEAR (when it touched $20k)

But yes, i understand how you all are feeling, and everybody in here would like to see the price in  a new all time high again. but sometimes we need to wait a little bit

Lets see what is going to happen next, for me, there is no problem about the price at the moment, and it is going up so fast.

I think that in 2018 the number of plugs will be not less than this, if in the original bitcoin unresolved problems will remain. As far as I know, the network of lightning, which is designed to eliminate the slowness and high cost of bitcoin transactions, will be implemented in it not at the end, but immediately in early 2018. If this happens and bitkoyn corrects its shortcomings, then the number of plugs should decrease. In general, I am positive about these forks, because as a result of their conduct, new coins appear that compete with the original bitcoin and make it improve.

2017 was the year full of drama and forks for bitcoin.

I understand Lightning Network probably come out in late 2018.

Will 2018 be like 2017 for bitcoin, what can we expect?
There is one hardfork coming up on 28 December scheduled to take place in block 501451 all is now set for increment of block size to 4mb and increasing production time to 2.5 minutes hence one more drama for bitcoin before the end of 2017.

Yeah the segwit 2x fork that was supposedly got cancelled last month november is somehow now is un-cancelled and coming back within 48 hours.

I remember the bitcoin rally price started from november due to segwit2x being cancelled making buyers believe their bitcoins won't turn into centralised paypal 2.0.

But I dont understand cause bitcoin price is rebounding  Huh Is it because of free segwit2x air drop?

Segwit2x is the bad guy right making bitcoin centralised instead of decentralised so market prices should be freefall now.

We may see even more forks and drama in the coming year. If Bitcoin continues to rise, this is sort of given since more people would want to monetize on Bitcoin's huge success, including creation of new forks like Bitcoin Cash or Gold. On the other hand, if Bitcoin is going to tank dramatically, it will be a drama on its own even without any forks at all.

Bitcoin is a drama queen!

Wait a min, the starting of the november price rally was due to segwit2x being cancelled making bitcoin buyers think bitcoin won't turn into paypal 2.0.  Roll Eyes

Now segwit2x is happening in the coming days, wont that cause panic in the btc markets? Or if price goes us due to this free airdrop then I am not fully understanding  Huh

The year is not over and we have Segwit2x on the 28th of Dec if it goes ahead
this time but it seems hard to get much information about this fork.

My trust with the BTC miners has been broken over the crazy high fees so I
don't care if it gets chopped up by forks and lets remember a fork doubles the
coins and in layman terms that is called inflation

Longer term i want to move to a coin that dumps the block chain or moves to
master controllers because we cannot keep using 90KWH of energy to process
just one transaction, silly design if you ask me

What is this segwit2x fork on 28th dec? I thought this was cancelled previously. They are going ahead with segwit2x?

Do we get a free air drop of segwit2x? Will segwit2x cause FUD?

That's the same question we're all asking Smiley

I can definitly expect 2018 to have the same, if not more forks than 2017. People have realized that they can make money off these forks, especially devs. If SegWit and/or Lightning Network isn't running in the first 6 months, then all the more reason to think that more forks are coming, devs will start a bunch of FUD campaigns against Bitcoin to manipulate people into believing that X fork is going to be the next big thing.

FORKS ARE CRAP, stop asking for forks because we all know that they are the same crap, they are just created to help the dev to make easy money, and the only ones who are claiming them all the only ones who are always exposed to lose all their bitcoins. They are not even worth a single buck.

Yes to some degree you are right if they are just taking the old code and adding a tweak because it needs a new
data structure completely so that the network has an hierarchical structure.

The data from the chain needs importing to a DB and to then be split up into manageable size sections
maybe based on two digits from the public address because as it is 200gb of data needs to be scanned by
20,000 miners each time to add a new transaction (This is madness) so they can check that the wallet has
the money to spend.

Old archived transactions complete with HASH in the headers belong in read only databases that are distributed between
a few hundred servers and not 20,000 like we have now. Slave nodes (19,000) can then request totals and not the whole history
for any wallet for up to a month ago from these servers and it will work fast because the answer would be cashed and ready to send back.

This alone would bring the live block size down to say 10gb and little intel I3 machines could deal with that and do it fast
without even breaking the process down further using two digits from the public address.

Come on guys, this is not rocket science and this PoW needs to go in the bin BIG TIME because
having to price data in bytes is just plain stupid these days.

Yeah th network is bad now, we need lighning network, but it needs to work properly and be secure. If LN come with bugs, insecurity it may cause FUD.

See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6V365_59-Lc

What the developers at BTC don't get or want to get is that most large systems that work
use hierarchical data and you can still have that in a decentralized system using master
controllers so that 20,000 miners don't need to waste lots of power (CPU/Electrical) by all
replicating the same actions for each transaction.

We can still have a public ledger and servers to store old archived transactions
BTC =7 TPS
ETH = 15 TPS
IOTA = 100 TPS
VISA = 25,000 TPS

Time people started to wake the fork up and see that the king is wearing no clothes

2017 had something like +2000% for bitcoin, now we are in a big correctino but it is ok.
If 2018 repeat it, we are all good and be very happy  Grin

Forks is bad thing, now every month has forks and it is all garbage.

There's one if you including Bcash supporters in reddit who give tip (which is fine), but claim Bcash as real bitcoin and attack bitcoin. I'm sure we'll see FUD about LN and SegWit next year.
Also, there are many chain-split which make new altcoin, but as far as i know, all of these have minority support.

Ok so there's going to be a big battle between bitcoin and bitcoin cash in 2018? Without Lightning Network I think bitcoin will lose.

How can LN and Segwit generate FUD when they are suppose to be good updates for bitcoin and not make bitcoin centralised status.
