I actually was considering something very similar as a long time ago my cousin and I turned an old fridge into a Kegorator.... I figured I'd use the extra fridge in some way since it's already plugged in and just holding a few things.

Totally agree and that's what I'm doing to assist in air flow... funny to see how many people spike up their prices on those extenders when you can order them from China at $3 a piece.

you really gotta get space between your cards, pci-express extenders work great,

we have sort of designed a "wind tunnel", cool room air at the back, two systems in front on each level, and cool air being pushed in, then another fan at the front moving the hot air out

relies on having some sort of normal air source though and not just a single hot room

I'm cooling just with fans. Oh and I underclock memory (which has no impact on hashrate but can save you up to 8C).

My details: Rig is a HTPC case with two 5750s inside, one from xfx the other one from sapphire. The sapphore one obvisouly has a better radiator as it allways runs about 5C to 7C cooler than the XFX card at similar clock speeds. Both cards run at 800 MHz clock and 600 MHz mem speed. The XFX card runs at 73C to 75C and the sapphire one at 65C to 68C. The case itself has one 120mm fan blowing inward from the side and another 120mm fan blowing outward in the back. Currently my TV stands on the case which surely costs me another 1C when running.

When I am going to upgrade the rig I'll make sure to have a look on the cooling and will stay away from cards that use the ATI reference design since that really is the bare minimum as far as cooling goes.

What about making a setup like a Kegorator.

Get liquid cooling setup and daisy chain them together, take a small refrigerator or freezer and coil copper tubing into 50 ft coil maybe, drill 2 holes to run copper tubing outside the unit. Connect the ends of the copper tubing into the liquid cooling daisy loop to make a continuos loop. You may need to add a inline pump for circulation. Fill mineral oil or whatever goes in the liquid cooling setup.

What about chest freezer? Can't you spray the hardware with water resistant liquid specifically for computer hardware and stick all your gear in a good size freezer?

To be honest I'm just poking around to see what others are doing to cool down their GPU rigs... On my setup I have two boxes One of them is a full tower box and has 5 fans (2 side inwards, 1 on top inwards, 2 back outwards) which keep my 3 7970 cards around 75-80c at 650-680mhs (which I consider good). The other is just a mid atx tower and it get's way too hot for that little box with 1x7970 and 1x5970. I basically stripped the sides and have a table fan blowing directly at the cards (hover around 75c-80c).

Basically looking to see if some people came up with clever methods to keep their systems cool... people using open custom cases (milk crates)? Maybe attach a vent to draw out the hot air or bring in cold air?... any of you use those fish tank ideas full of mineral oil (a bit too risky for me).
