how much should a 1THs rig cost?

the s-5    does       1150gh  about  460  usd on ebay  + a psu

the sp20e does      1200gh  about 480 usd on ebay. + a psu

the avalon 4.1 does 900gh the quietest of all  about 2.52 btc + a psu

the three above use the least power.

pm me if you want  an s-5 or an sp20 and a  quality psu.

Well, according to the manufacturers.

S5 1155GH = 590W

SP20 1700GH = 1200W----------------Don't quote this as it is not accurate.  Yeah sp20's are rated to do this   speed , but my KIA FORTE is rated to do 120 mph.  1200gh at 650 watts is realistic

once you go over 1400gh it sucks power like mad.  and most top end numbers are 1625 at 1200 watts

So if you're upgrading from possibly S1 or S3 you might be able to get away with your existing power depending what you got.

if you want completely get rid of noise
try host it on our industrial farm
but it is also depend what is your electricity fee like
the host fee of s5 in our farm is 1.416$ per day
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/lee-group1980-the-sales-of-first-batch-hosted-antminer-s7psu-included-934581
and i only sell the s5 together with psu at the price of 340$

How about an SP10.  Whisper quiet at only 80db.

Joking.

Definitely SP20 or S5.  I'd pick the S5 because although it is slightly slower it uses less than half the power of the SP20 meaning you can get more plugged in before blowing the electrics to bits.

While I can't comment on the SP10 sound, I think the SP20 and the S5 are quite similar in power consumption at the S5 rated speed of 1115 GH/s. The S5 doesn't have a decisive edge in terms of power in my opinion, unless you try and extract the last 100-200 GH/s out of the SP20. My little SP20 is chugging along at 920 GH/s, using about 430 watts (measured at the wall). My speed is currently set by what I am willing to spend on electricity, and endure in terms of noise.

You could try a second-hand KnCMiner Neptune, they are pretty quiet.

+1
No sound at all except the quiet crackling of the flames.

Exactly. Make sure you install it in an actual fireplace, with a chimney above.

Ever been camping, but couldn't get the fire started? No problem, just hook up a Neptune and stand well back...

I think one of the issues with using a single cable at way too high of power is not necessarily the wire diameter, but the pins.  In my experience, depending on what quality of PCIE pins and ends you have the pins get really hot, melt the ends, and catch them on fire.  If you know what parts you have in the cables and on the board you might (maybe) be ok, but if you don't then it's a fairly high statistical probability of a fire.

From the standard PCIe 6 pin connector how much can you run off it typically?

I know that 150W is safe for sure because most of the PCIe are 6 pin + 2pin for the powerful GPUs.

I also have some lower end power supplies where there is a single rail which splits 2 ends and both have 6 pin + 2 pin such as pictured, and that wire is only 18AWG, so I know that you can for sure pull at least 300W off a connection like that if it was designed like that from the factory to power an R9 290X.

I don't care much how many people haven't had problems with them bursting into flames. I would never in good conscience recommend anyone buy any piece of hardware designed to draw 400W from a single PCIe 6-pin jack.
Fair enough. Safety is the most important thing.

+1. 300W is the absolute limit in my opinion, and even that can cause failures in a lot of lower end power supplies and even a few gold rated supplies

I am in the market for some miners but since I am mining in my home my #1 concern is the noise.

I currently have an S3, at first it was really loud but now its ok, I guess I got used to it.

Then I got an KNCMiner Jupiter and love how its silent, very bad on power but its silent so I am happy.

Just wondering what other, modern not ancient miners are out there that hash at least 400Gh/s and don't make a lot of noise.

I looked at the Terraminer, S4, S5, SP20 and those are all crazy loud.

Usually, its the fan who is the one making the noise, just remove it and use a external fan.

You could try a second-hand KnCMiner Neptune, they are pretty quiet.

"Customer Appreciation" batch customers (people who paid in November 2013) are getting their bonus 2-for-1 Neptunes now, so if someone is selling one you could get a brand new one in its original box (which was well packaged for shipping).

Yes I thought about that but I want to avoid those as they mine wreck my PSUs and start fires.
Did you mean to say "might wreck my PSUs and start fires"?

I have a Neptune from the very first batch (also known as the "Customer Appreciation" batch) and have been running it 24x7 since 2014-07-12... so over 7 months solid at the time of writing.

I use high quality power supplies: 3x Corsair AX1200i, each PSU powers two Neppy modules (except the third PSU which powers one module plus the controller). This may seem OTT but I'm expecting my bonus Neptune soon, so I'll only need to buy two more AX1200is to power it, making 5x AX1200i PSUs powering two Neptunes (10 modules). The AX1200i PSUs do have an "issue" because they have Over Current Protection... so they actually don't work with the Neptune without using 2-to-1 PCIe Y-connectors. Choice of PSU is up to you.

Right from the start I used 2-to-1 PCIe cables (purchased from Cablez on this forum), to avoid overloading a single PCIe cable from the PSU. That is, two PCIe cables from each PSU go to a 2-to-1 PCIe Y-connector which then connects to the Neppy module.

I have never had a problem.

I'm no fan of KnCMiner, they used and abused us to fund their Datorhalls, and they should have put two PCIe connectors on each module... etc, etc. But if you use quality PSUs (don't overload them) and 5x 2-to-1 PCIe Y-connectors you should be ok. The PCIe cables to my Neppy modules don't even get warm (probably thanks to the Y-connectors), but then I'm a safety nut and I don't even overclock it - I have kept the clock speed standard as issued. Even at standard, the power efficiency is excellent at around 0.58 J/GH.

I'm just saying I don't see any reason why you shouldn't buy a second-hand Neptune if you want to.

Avalon4 is apparently fairly quiet, certainly compared to the S5/SP20 but I don't know how it would measure up to an S3's volume. Might check some reviews.

If you duct-tape some X1s together you can make a >400GH miner that's quiet, but that seems like a stupid idea. You could get a 4-stack of BTCGarden AM-V1, would run a little over 600GH and the fans on them aren't too bad I think. Not the best W/GH, but that can be improved with hardware tweaks.

Avalon4 is significantly quieter than an S3, you can literally make them noiseless at 25C and stock clocks. AM-V1s are pretty loud, louder than most other things in the same generation.

And just how quiet is the bitcrane unit? Haven't found any videos on em so they're not exactly popular at all.

I am pretty sure they use watercooled Hashfast boards, so I doubt they will be making many more of them (BitCrane) so whatever stock they have is about all they got I imagine.

They're not quiet, there's pretty powerful fans on those radiators.

The C1 will be quite a bit cheaper.

I also want to suggest SP20 or S5 again.  I suggest having a spot to have put miners where sound is not a issue.

Most likely C1 is one of the quietest miners I have had as it uses water cooling(Most quit was the asicminer USB's but they are so little power now).  I would go for SP20 or S5 though over it and deal with the extra noise.

the s-3 can be made as quiet as the avalon 4.1

with 1 silverstone fan 141mm as a pull . and the stock as a push.  and down clocked to freq 200 giving you about 400gh
