In my opinion these decentralized marketplaces are just a temporary solution, until Bitcoin is widely accepted by all governments. Most of these decentralized marketplaces chose to go the decentralization route, because regulators would take it down. As soon as Crypto currencies are properly regulated and "approved" as a medium of exchange, then these decentralized marketplaces will become obsolete.

A lot of these decentralized marketplaces will survive, if they offer a alternative to places like Amazon and eBay. These centralized marketplaces regularly misuse their power and monopoly, so there are a lot of these people.   Wink

What do you mean by a decentralized marketplace? IMO marketplace should be centralized to function, more like a traditional marketplace.

Also..

Unfortunately the future of eCommerce is going to be controlled by Amazon. Crypto will give us a chance to do a bit of trading outside their centralised empire, but how many people are prepared to shun Amazon to preserve this trading?

Above statement is correct because competition tends to converge into a small number of parties. Monopolistic competition > oligopoly > monopoly.

Is it really the future of e-commerce? How can it help small businesses?
IMO it can help mostly the small businesses who doesn't have big capital to start their own market.

There will be no center for this market and everyone is free to start his own business through this type of market place but I'm still confused on how it can be applied to market place. I'm only thinking about decentralized cryptocurrency but that can be applied to this market.

I read one ICO that resembles a decentralized marketplace. You can try searching for Cube On. It's only part of Cube Chain's portfolio.

stop looking into ICOs for anything other than a bet that you make which may win or lose. these ICOs only take hyped up topics in the community and make some bullshit project around it and then ask for money!

if you want to see real decentralized marketplace then check out OpenBazaar (https://openbazaar.org/) it is a real solid open source project.

Can you elaborate more on your question by editing your original post, so that we can better understand your question?

As a merchant Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies provide many advantages including:

1) Reducing fraudulent transactions and chargebacks
2) Low Fees (a few cents per transactions) if you have experience using merchants applications are long, and fees are high (especially for small transactions)
3) Acceptable for any merchandise you want to sell. Some conventional payment gateways won't accept applicants for certain products for example I used to run a cellular unlocking website and gateways refused to approve my application because of previous issues with cellphone unlocking websites.
4) Gateways can automatically convert crypto to FIAT if you simply want to get paid instead of holding cryptocurrency as a speculative asset / investment.

Contact me if you want help accepting crypto for your website or business. I ran a retail brick and mortar business here in Canada and have allot of experience. You can message me on Telegram under the same username.

Looking at it practically, yes. The future is in decentralized marketplaces.

When you have a centralized marketplace, the marketplace itself is trying to make a profit. This makes it hard on sellers, because they have to pay to be listed. Not only that, websites like Amazon create there own products to compete with sellers on the platform.

They have an unfair advantage as well, because they have access to their customers contact info AND shopping behaviors.

Buyers end up paying for the manufactured product, distribution costs, listing, shipping and advertising costs. Sometimes we pay up to 5 times the manufactured cost to have it shipped to our door.

Implementing blockchain tech means the middlemen are automated. That's huge.

Instead of putting our trust into a company that's charging us for it, we'd be putting out trust in a software system that costs a fraction.

There are some benefits to an e-commerce and crypto collaboration. Apart from the marketing aspect, the biggest benefit for merchants and customers are convenience and security (credit card fraud is a huge problem for merchants). Push transactions (crypto payments) remove the need to store customer information and allow the user to send only what they specify without sharing any info--this helps minimize data breaches and charge backs as the traditional "pull" mechanism is replaced. We expand more on this in our blog post: http://bit.ly/CryptoandE-Commerce

From all the exemples of IDex I have been able to see at the moment, I'm not so convinced, as lots of them have very poor Graphic User Interface, are very hard to use for the newbies (and even moderate crypto-currencies users can be destabilized when using it for first time), you can also lose big amounts of money in case of very small errors (there is no safety net, like on other exchanges, if you place a sell order at 10 x lower price than market price by mistake), and last but not least, volume is quite low.
Sole big advantage: you can find there almost all the coins of the market. That's meagre...

At present, decentralized trading platforms with poor user interface and experience are still limited at some points, so it is difficult to use, not as useful tools as trading floors. The current decentralized trading floor does not provide such activities as margin lending, stop loss margin. Liquidity is also a major problem for decentralized trading platforms, as few users should be very illiquid.

100% agree that the future will be peer to peer. And most likely also from chain to chain, any chain I mean.

Can you give more description on chain to chain ? Why you feel and explain it better with an example?

100% agree that the future will be peer to peer. And most likely also from chain to chain, any chain I mean. I'm quite unsure if purely decentralized exchanges will be the way to work. I feel like a mix - a hybrid system is going to be the best way to work. It'll cause speed and convenience, plus can still attract new users to invest and use a platform with not too much knowledge of wallets/gas/etc
