Well using XBMC on one card while mining with the other works fine, apart from the 2-channel audio bullshit.  Not the optimal solution as I get ~ 70 Mhash less than if I could turn off the 5830, but stability is far more valuable.

I had issues when mixing 58xx and 69xx cards in one system. I use linux, of course. The first symptom is X going crazy and taking 100% CPU. Probably drivers have hard time to serve different types of cards simultaneously.

Did not have much time to look into it, really, simply  switched to making systems with only 58xx or 69xx cards but not a mix of them.

69xx cards are notorious for locking up if you do other stuff with them
while using an OpenCL application such as a bitcoin miner.

I did all the combinations with the 3 different cards.  It felt like troubleshooting a fucking win95 rig.  Each card worked fine by itself, but when installed together, they only played nice during the first boot.  What I ended up doing was using driver sweeper on the trouble computer and going with 2 6950s there.  Seems fine now.  I had a lot of different configurations including my old 4870 so I think the drivers were just confused.

I just hope I can stop mining on one card to watch a movie without the other locking up.

One thing I found a little odd is that both 6950s got worse hash rates on this PC than they did in the other with same miners/drivers and clocks.  I didn't expect the motherboard config to matter much at all, but I get a good 20Mhz more on my i7 920 than I do on this Athlon x3.

Switch PCI-e slots and use dummy plugs.

Or you can try just the 5830 alone & see if it will boot all the way to desktop

These cards are driving me nuts.  After a lot of fudding around I get the system to boot fine and have both cards working.  Then something causes a crash and the thing is retarded.  It only intitializes one card, the 6950 in slot 2 regarldess of the fact that the it goes all the way through to the starting windows screen on the 5830.

Yesterday it was booting fine with the 5830 initializing after the starting windows screen.  I am using this PC as an HTPC so I want to keep one GPU mining while watching movies and the other one mines too when I am not.  Obviously I'd prefer to have the 6950 as the 24/7 miner.

My temps are marginal when mining at ~ 80 on both cards so that may lead to a crash.  I am not OC'ing them too much.  I am about to give up and try 2 6950s in one machine and the 5830 by itself on this computer.

AMD's drivers have been doing all sorts of weird things on this machine with the graphics cards, most notably losing sound through the HDMI when sitting idle for a while.  Uninstalling didn't seem to help either.

I know it's a shot in the dark, but has anyone experience similar annoyances with mutli GPU family setups?
