Check the boot menu and make sure you have "enable 4g decoding" selected and also try disabling USB 3.1.

Like Sidog said, plug it one by one and when you find an order that works, start in this order again and move the new card to different slots until it works.

pcie gen to 1 in system setup was good for me but I found different videos on youtude about computer setup that propose different setup.

And for sure, check you risers.

You don't need 6 pin risers...I got 5 going

You need to set your 4g decoding to enabled

And pcie gen to 1

Then if it's not registering, swap the pcie ports, and kill all power flip the switch on the PSU, then power back on

Honestly it seems very random. Just a simple restart can often solve all the issues. A few almost guarantees it

I can 100% attest to this.  These MSI motherboards are HELLA finicky when it comes to recognizing more than 4 cards.   I have a couple of rigs running on 6-7 1080 TI cards and have never had a smooth experience in getting my Win10 OS (version 1703) to recognize all 7 from the get-go.   

best advice would be to install one card at a time, get into the OS, make sure it's recognized.  Then completely shut it down, install the next card, get the os to recognize to cards...and so on and so forth. one at a time.

I think I paid about $6-$7 each. I got like 50 of them. Very nice.

Just looked, 10 for $69.99. got like 5 sets of those.

Got 2 of Asus Z270-AR mobos. 1 is running 6 * 1080Ti with no problems. I mean rock-fkng-solid. Been going for weeks. The other one has 7*1060 6GB, Bios sees all 7, Win10 can recognise only 5. I have tried everything, new risers, switching them around, nothing works. And even getting those 5 to work took me a day, installing and re-installing windows and drivers several times. Fking joke.

Both have exactly same CPU, RAM.

Side note, the one thing I noticed with this build was very very little power was being drawn from the risers.

8x 1080ti with same board and celeron cpu:

i didnt setup all 8 in one shot since the cards arrived in multiple shipments. so i setup 4 at first, then 6 then 8. the only issue i ran into was that as I added more cards i had to run DDU in safe mode then reinstall nvidia drivers after all cards were plugged. then all of them would show in device manager properly. none of this "install one card, reboot, install next card, reboot" BS that other mobos go through.

risers are v07 6pins. 2 sata connections per line.

BBT uses that board a lot in his builds. I would follow the setup walkthrough video for that board he produced.

I have the same problem with Asus Z270-P with Celeron 3900 and 2 stick of DDDR4.

I can only see a maximum of 4 1080 ti Founder Editions.

I am having a really hard time getting this board to work with more than 4 1080 ti Founder Editions.

Brand new Asus Z270-A with a Pentium G4400, and a single stick of DDR4.
It's on the latest bios and I've tried 4G decoding on/off, changed PCIE speeds from auto to gen1/gen2, disabled audio, etc.
Installed windows 10 more than a few times and the best I can get is 4 working and the 5th with error code 43.

I even tried running 2 cards in the X16 slots, and then 3 via risers in the remaining X1 slots but that still doesn't work
Tried adding one at a time...but I just can't seem to crack this thing!

The risers are ver 006c with the SATA to 6 pin PCIE and I'm only powering one per SATA chain/cable.

I can get them all to work individually on pretty much any slot, but once I plug them all in, I end up with 2, 3, or 4 working.
It just almost seems random as to how many will work and in which slots. Even boots without showing all the cards, and then you move them around and they show up.

I'm at the point where I'm going to switch motherboards to something else, unless I can get some solid advice from someone that has 1080ti's running
