Not me, but a good friend of mine has taken many vacations in Indonesia (and Bali) - he is a surfer and they have some of the best waves in the world (eg Uluwatu and G-Land).

He really enjoys it there, very cheap and tasty food, cheap accomodation and mostly friendly people.

Things to watch out for are corrupt police/security (always hide the majority of your cash in your pocket/sock and only carry a small amount in your wallet if you need to bribe police - if they recognize you as a tourist and see a wallet full of cash they will demand a huge bribe, otherwise just a few dollars will send them on their way).

If you look like a tourist you will get hassled a lot in tourist areas by vendors trying to sell you their wares - but haggling is normal and you can get some great bargains if you want.

Also most foreigners will experience "Bali Belly" or similar symtoms at some point - food/bacterial poisoning resulting in a few days of illness - stomach cramps, vomiting and pissing out of your ass. But apparently most people will only get it once and then they'll be OK. Stick to bottled water and avoid dodgy looking street food stalls.

I really would like to visit, it looks like a beautiful place.

thanks mr.protokol over his positive comments about Indonesia, I am also proud as an Indonesian, I made Indonesia the best place, because of the friendly inhabitants, lush their ground, its beautiful scenery, I can say Indonesia is a paradise on earth
