Alright I will rethink my options when I get more cash, I lucked out this month, but I will still browse ebay since that seems to be my best bet,

Thank you all.

Amagimetals sells gold for btc.  I've used them a few times.  They are usually just a tad above Apmex in price.

You're always going to pay a premium when getting small amounts, it's like most things in business - the more you buy, the cheaper it gets. I owned a couple "GrainMint" packets of gold before and that's probably as close as you'll get to these fractions.

I think I misunderstood your title here--are you looking for investment gold or are you doing some sort of goldsmithing?  You wrote 'casting' and I took that to mean you were working with the gold.

They way I understand it, he wants 24k gold items to turn it into 0.01 to 0.10 gram gold bars. I guess that would be a very good route to go to hedge against the current world markets. I considered buying some from some people I know, but friends advised against it. They say people are finding unique ways to cheat people into thinking these bars are solid 24k carat gold and it is not the case. How are you guaranteed that you are buying a solid 24k carat gold bar, if it was done by a private individual?

I find that Gold bars direct from the mint have the highest "visual" appeal, and lowest chance of being counterfeit. These bars should come with a certificate of authenticity from the mint. Many of the second-hand gold bars, have lost some shine due to oxidation, but they are still valuable. < The U.S. Mint officially only sells gold bullion in legal tender coins, not bars. >

Do you sell your bars or are you just collecting them for yourself?

I have been buying gold for quite a while now.

My advice is too avoid really small gold items as the premiums are silly.

Your best bet is to save a little longer and go for something like a 1/10 coin or a 1/2 sovereign as the premiums are far better.

Sovereigns can bought from 3-4% above spot and are extremely liquid, recognized world wide and are capital gains tax free in the UK.

I'd throw a +1 at sovereigns. That's where most of my gold is currently in, very reasonable markup's and very recognized.

Yes ebay was my first place to look, but all the small (0.01-0.10 gram) gold sold on ebay have a 2-3x markup and thats too insane for me, I don;t mind paying a $1 markup or so but the pricing they want is way more then what I want to pay.

Also I Will have to look at 24k jewelry since I only looked at bullion, but I hate dealing with jewelry because of the amount of fakes.

@Invulner

I believe I checked them all, they only sell 0.5 gram or higher bars, I need smaller ones :-(

Yeah, that's true. But seriously nobody sells 0.01-0.1 grams gold... No point. It'll cost more to actually cast/mint those gold than the gold itself.

If you're interested, you should sign up on bitgold, they sell fractional gold, however the legitimacy of the gold is not confirmed. Also the minimum is 10g to convert to physical gold.

Have you looked into buying from coinabul, provident metals, amagi or veldt gold? They're all pretty good providers for gold bullion, so i've heard.

You might not have good luck on this forum finding this sort of thing, but maybe.  Don't know if you want to pay by bitcoin only, but you know you can get just about any type of scrap metal--including gold--on Ebay, plus you'd have buyer protection and could probably choose exactly what suits you.  There are hundreds of people selling scrap gold at any given time on there, and I suspect you might know this already.  Good luck in any case.

You could probably get 24K bullion that's not in MS69 condition for close to spot, like US Buffaloes with dings on them.

I am going to have to wait 5 days until I get some bitcoins, but I want to look at options.
