GeForce RTX 4090 as eGPU
Overall, the card may lose 20% of its performance on average when used as eGPU. This performance is of an overclocked GPU (+249 MHz on GPU, +1500 MHz on memory and at 133% power limit). It is a big performance loss, but one should remember that it is attached to a small laptop not even designed for gaming.

The only problem with this particular setup is the cost. The GPU alone costs $1600, while the enclosure is another $300. So, it is as expensive as a high-end gaming laptop itself.

How about rtx 4090 mobile is arround the corner, chinese will make dedicated gpu for that things only 150w tdp perform like 3090 in gaming performance. Always mobile gpu lead better efficiency, the price seems to be cheaper than desktop gpus but no warranties  Grin, im looking at this

It's just a toned-down version of the desktop SKUs, you can pretty much manually tune it to get more or less the same efficiency.
It is necessary to check what results mobile chips will give when installed in desktop boards. Maybe the performance and consumption will be the same, but the price of such video cards can be much cheaper, because the video chips were used. But the guarantee for such devices is very small.

There are five models in the line of Nvidia Ada Lovelace mobile accelerators - GeForce RTX 4090, 4080, 4070, 4060 and 4050
https://www.ixbt.com/news/2023/01/03/9728-cuda-2-0-16-gddr6-geforce-rtx-4090-mobile-4-gpu.html
I think that the first laptops will be very expensive. When the Chinese can install a mobile processor in a desktop video card, then this will be an interesting option for mining. But this is a loss of warranty.

Do you check the total consumption of the computer from the wall? I think my mining farm of 5 Rx 5600 consumes less electricity.
You are doing very well, because you have one video card. When you build a mining farm of 5 such video cards, you will understand what mining on hot video cards is.

Yeah that 71 degree Celsius doesn't look that well especially if it is on an open air rig with just one video card. The fans are low at 58% but I think such a powerful card like the 4090 should be built in a perfect quality so I would normally increase the fan speed to at  least 70-75% or at least until the temperature goes to less than 67 degree Celsius.

The profitability if it is only roughly 2600 Satoshi daily or 78000 monthly it is totally not worth mining at that energy power consumption which is near 0.5 Kw and it is 12 Kw daily, not worthy for me,even though I am a partisan of mining at a loss because it is usually in such time that money are made.
I don't have an RTX4090 video card, but if you look at the experience of using the RTX3090, most of the video cards used low-quality thermal pads, and the miners had to change them after 6-12 months. For such video cards, open cases are not used due to overheating problems.

I also have an rtx 3080ti card and can confirm that it has a much higher thermal heating compared to the rtx 4090, which is colder and does not cause problems being in a closed case, besides, after purchasing a cable to connect additional power to Gigabyte Aorus 12vhpwr 16Pin for my power supply, I can not worry about possible problems with him.

Any experience with the RX 79xxx series? I feel like it would a better value ATM.

You are doing very well, because you have one video card. When you build a mining farm of 5 such video cards, you will understand what mining on hot video cards is.

Of course, you are right when adding 5 or more video cards, the picture of consumption as well as the temperature regime will change dramatically, the multiplicative effect will certainly have its effect, but I was just interested in checking my card in different algorithms.
Would you like to get a better hashrate than what is available in calculators?
Today, on free electricity, this video card pays for itself in 6 years, and at a cost of 5 cents, about 12 years. This is not the most useless video card in mining, but in the near future I do not see prospects for its payback.

To all crypto miners who still believe in gpu mining is there anyone using RTX4090 already for mining? What hashrate are you getting off the graphic card and which coin is the most friendly for mining on the RTX4090, also I need information on watt consumption and heat, this is urgent, I will drop more information later.

I've been using my rtx 4090 for almost six months now and I really like the card from the point of view of its very low temperatures, nor when I didn't have cooler cards in this matter, Nvidia surpassed itself, about the performance in mining, I drove the NiceHash miner benchmark and I got the highest income per day of $0.68, it really will be less, the maximum temperature is 71° with a load of 446W.
The card in the stock is this one https://www.palit.com/palit/vgapro.php?id=4608&lang=en&pn=NED4090019SB-1020G&tab=sp

Here's what NiceHash shows when rig is running:

You will be surprised if i will tell you even rx470 4gb plays games well enough.nvidia is smart made high price so discount will look very attractive later
Well enough - is very relative. If you're not a graphics fanatic, then a $60 graphics card would be a good buy. But I would buy 1070 or 1080 which have better performance in modern games but cost a little more.
Yes agree that 1070 have better performance but price for rx470 makes best price/performance.
I think it depends on the games. rx470 4gb with non-working fans are already on sale for 35-45 dollars. It's very cheap.
For 35-45 i will buy 8 or 16 of them. Where is it?
In Russia, these video cards cost 4,500 rubles, which is about $63. You can buy wholesale from miners or in China for $45, but the condition will be very bad after 5 years of mining. There are also mining edition video cards with 1 video output, they are even cheaper. Search in your country or China on aliexpress and similar marketplaces.

4000 series isn’t worth at all in terms price/performance even raw gaming fps gain, used  3070 curently around 280$ which is far better in every way, these newgpus focused on vancy fake frames supported by ai. Atleast that was good news for old gpu in the hand of miners, still doable in next couple years, electricity wont matter in bullrun

Prices are crazy. 4080 dropped a day or 2 ago and all grabbed by bots and selling at 2x the price.

here is the best price on ebay by a real seller it will go poof by the end of today

https://www.ebay.com/itm/185659376454?

most other cards are over 2k

That is an absolutely crazy price for a Rtx 4080 despite that being one of the latest and best cards from Nvidia, sounds like the price is way over than what it should be,there is Black Friday next week and most probably in Walmart,Best Buy and similar will be an assault in the true meaning of the word who will go to get the more cards, mostly traders rather than gamers, they will stock up so they can sell them much higher than they are in price.I would wait before making a decision,I would wait until Black Friday and Christmas time have passed and only then decide what to do.For anyone being in a rush like gamers, the Rtx 2060 12 GB will most likely play any game at a very cheap price.

And who needs these video cards 2 times more expensive?
Probably gamers from buy Smiley You need to wait until the end of January and prices in stores will decrease. And if you really want to mine, then you can buy a cheap 3000 series, because there is a lot of information on how to deal with overheating problems.

Maybe you can get a little better power consumption, but this video card has the same problems as the RTX 3090. And then you will have the dilemma: making expensive cooling or opening warranty seals and changing thermal pads with thermal paste.

you know my 3090ti cards have cool memory numbers I have 4 from evga all of them have ram in the 76-86c range with 300- 305 watts

https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=24G-P5-4983-KR

look at the two 3090ti in open air rig below

I understand that you have chosen good video cards with a good cooling system, but not everyone is so lucky.
My colleagues have problems with these graphics cards and have been forced to deal with overheating issues. I have a lot of cheap open cases and don't want to spend money on closed cases or extra ventilation.

Good point. First - all cards with gddr6x need attention, some early some later. This are extra costs, lose in warranty and so on. No good deal in my opinion, but i don´t know how good the cooling of the new rtx4000 series is, maybe it is better, but i would avoid gddr6x cards for mining, or use it only on core intensive algos.
The point with the cases - i can feel it. In 2017 i build complete rigs for around 1500€ and nowadays, people pay 1000€ for a closed CASE only, many bought cards for the double price, bought pretested china riser for the triple price and than we talk about ROI? (by the way, nearly everyone use ROI in the wrong way)

that card has a massive cooler(uses a lot of metal), the card is still new but if the thermal pads can't last long, it has to be changed with quality thermal pads.

there are cards that have low quality coolers even with good thermal pads, the temps are a bit good enough but not excellent.

cards with better coolers are a bit more expensive, but sometimes it is worth it.
First problem:
EVGA, a titan in the PC component space, is getting out of the graphics card game. The company posted in its community forum, saying that it won’t be making next-generation Nvidia graphics cards but will continue to sell and support “the existing current generation products.” According to Gamers Nexus, the company doesn’t currently have plans to make AMD or Intel graphics cards.
https://www.theverge.com/2022/9/16/23357031/evga-nvidia-graphics-cards-stops-making

The second problem is in return on investment and relation to profit with possible problems.

To all crypto miners who still believe in gpu mining is there anyone using RTX4090 already for mining? What hashrate are you getting off the graphic card and which coin is the most friendly for mining on the RTX4090, also I need information on watt consumption and heat, this is urgent, I will drop more information later.
Is this information not enough for you?

Maybe you can get a little better power consumption, but this video card has the same problems as the RTX 3090. And then you will have the dilemma: making expensive cooling or opening warranty seals and changing thermal pads with thermal paste.

you know my 3090ti cards have cool memory numbers I have 4 from evga all of them have ram in the 76-86c range with 300- 305 watts

You need to watch some YouTube videos about mining with 4090 RTX graphic cards, they generate more heat than RTX3090.

Make sure you are living in a well opened environment or build a more ventilated mining garage if truly you want to start using 4090 for mining. But I prefer 3060ti / 3070, these are the best headache less gpus from RTX3 family.

It is not fine tuned yet for mining but the for the initial tests that we have seen it is just a bit over 130 Mhsh in Ethash and Etchash algorithms. The problem with that card is that it consumes a lot of power and there have been a lot of reported cases that it usually burns the connectors with the passing of time, not just one case but several cases,so this card offers not a whole lot more than the 3090 which at least is stable and it does burns out the power connector.
