I was wondering this before. Considering they suggest putting it on a solo mining pool, has anyone profitted from this? I assume that even if it doesn't make much, it still works well as a wifi extender!

However, has anyone got 24.75 btc from this (subtracting the 1% fee).

the R1 is NOT a wifi extender..

yes you can set it up as one.. no its not really easy and its not supported by current software settings.. but the cpu is not fast enough and it jams up and crashes..

It did run a access point very easy.  I think that was what mine was set to, it had a network cable going into it and put out a wifi signal. So in a way you could extend your network putting it at end.

But does it compare with my Nighthawk X4 WiFi for example...  no it does not.  So all depends on your use.

access point yes.. it is a router..

wifi bridge, or repeater.. no.. its not fast enough the cpu chokes and it drops connection.

I still think that if you want to dip your toe into mining and see what it's all about that it's a great little product. I do however think you need to upgrade to the CrazyGuy's firmware for the best experience. Then look at what you have.

A BM1384 Chip Miner, runs standard at 5.5GH/s.
Integrated PSU
Integrated WiFi
Full blown Antminer Style interface. Can mine Solo or Pool, configurable like any other Miner.
USB Charger

My recommendation for anyone that want's to give mining a try for a small outlay and end up with a low power consumption easily potable Miner that can also be a wireless access Point. I actually take mine with me when going away to show people how mining works.  Smiley

Batch 2 is now on sale at $39 but Bitnmain have announced that after the Holiday the price will be $49.  Smiley

Why would any reasonable human being purchase one for $49 ?

Pretty much for the same reason that they would pay $39??? This device doesn't pay for itself under hardly any circumstances, and the price difference will have no effect either way. If you play the lottery, do you worry if the ticket costs $1 or $2? Same principle.

Believe it or not...  I did ROI on a R1.   I used as a U3 controller.  Eventually I decided to sell U3's and just use only compacs as lotto miners.

The U3's I did not make a profit on. But I got to play with them and got most of my money back... so great on that.  The R1 they did not have a batch 2 up (no one knew of it) so I actually made like 20 bucks (minus ebay fees) over what I paid.

The early R1 have been a good investment as unlike other miners the price has gone up. batch 1 were $29. Batch 2 is now on sale at $39 but Bitnmain have announced that after the Holiday the price will be $49.  Smiley

That is crazy for 1 chip in R1.   I thought it was a better U3 controller with Crazy Guy's mod then lotto machine.  I used it for the controller was main thing.

What they need to do is come out with U4 and hook up to R1.  Then they would have better chance of sales I think.
