It's all about the game, and how you play it

Workstation cards are going to default slower because of generally lower clock speeds (for stability)  but art the level of the chip themselves will be identical changes happen in their bios, you can flash a card to it's workstation equivalent however unless you're running Autocad or other workstation focused applications there is little point.(and if you're choosing ati for that it's like picking nvidia for bitcoin mining)

i remember someone said your hashing speed can be calculated by stream processors divided by 4, at best overclock settings.
for stock clocks..10-20% less.

seems about right for my 5770, 5830 and 5850

well that would mean the V9800 would put it right up there with the 5870 mhash. Still its a slightly different kind of card than the V7800. the V7800 is not worht the cost but is pushing a decent 250. So i was wonder if the V9800 might have something that makes it better.

well not exactly the FirePro V7800 can do 254.85

My bad, that was negligence. As for the other bits, that's where you've got me, because I'm too new to the mining scene to be able to answer that

well not exactly the FirePro V7800 can do 254.85, and the V9800 has 1600 SP not 1440 like the 7800 so is that just the difference between a 6950 and 6970 in SPs?

According to the wiki's hardware comparison, the FirePro line doesn't fair well at all, even though I didn't see the V9800. They ranged from like 50-150 m/hash sec

Its not cost effective but it would be interesting to see what it gets.
