is it proper to ask for coins before you get a job? i am quite skeptical on this..
Not really but base on the discussion that we've talking its about the editing of your profile. In real world, if someone asks you to pay him first just to land a job then surely it is a scam.

No company will ask you to pay them just to hire you, they are the ones that will pay you for your training and job. I really haven't tried the platform so can't detail much but it's not that you will land a job after using some gas for your profile modification but it's on how good your profile is and employers will never ask you for money.

Never tried this particular platform but have tried many others. I think the problem is the competition there, as mentioned above. Employers want cheap work, and probably care less about quality than quantity. Talking about content creation anyway. The problem is Google isn't very good at detecting natural language, just using SEO and other tags as a factor for getting high page ranking.

So we're fighting on those platforms with basically people using software to churn out content. And so can charge really low rates for that.

Can't help you on this but I've read an experience regarding this. Check it out.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/5rgl7r/ethlance_my_first_real_ethereum_experience/
maybe that is quite helpful, the article is quite clear about ETHLance so that we can make reference and consideration. the author explained his experience with ETHLance.
Yeah it's quite helpful and it said some things what OP is asking for.

Let's wait until op sees that some info that he needs was on that experience like updating his profile needs some gas. But it's best to hear an experience from someone who have used it and is from here in forum.
Its still a good read up or good preference.I havent test out Ethlance but its quite odd for you to make deposits before you can edit your profile.lol. Yet most freelancing sites doesnt really require anything
about payments or whatsoever when updating or editing your profile.
As the site says it is working on ethereum's blockchain with 0% service fees. So I think the revenue from site are coming from those edits that has been made with a fee for gas.

Well it's just gas so its a very tiny amount of ethereum that you need to pay. Anyway looking at the listing on the site there's not that much work for everyone.

I have just register there but have not put some ETH on my account yet. I might just be getting some jobs there while the market isn't making me money. I wanted to edit my profile but seem not allowing me to access, do we need some ETHER funds before we can do something inside it like editing or searching for jobs?  Has anyone ever got a project in ethlance?
I didn't try any of these sites personally but if you ask me don't deposit any money into the accout for nothing because maybe you can't withdraw it later and also may not get any job so its a waste of time. You can try service section or service discussion section for more info about freelancing jobs.

I have never tried ETHlance but I would also be interested to learn if anyone has any luck there. I tried before registering accounts at similar crypto freelancer websites like XBTlance but not a very good experience. My rates were not higher than others in general but people always seemed to go for the really cheap options,,, it made me wonder how people can make money because the hours put in to those jobs are so high and payment so low. I guess machine or AI assisted jobs are very popular?
