Cryptsy has an API that reports this for the coins on their exchange. you need approval though and so far I haven't heard back on my request for approval.
Have you tried coinchoose?
yeah you can sorta tell by difficulty but some of the different types of difficulty algos dont change the diff as fast as teh hashes do.
