A few people have their bans removed for numerous reasons. It's not plagiarism if it's your own work and if you can prove that then the ban should be lifted in those cases.

I unbanned it. Please make sure you leave a note and source at the top or bottom that it has been published elsewhere in future.

This is actually the first time I have seen somebody become unbanned. I'm not sure if I've just missed all of the previous actions, or if this is something brand new that I am getting to be one of the first to witness. Such a historical event, my goodness.

Does this mean that if users are banned for plagiarism and are able to prove they were the original owner there may be some hope for their ban appeal? Also, does this mean that it is somewhat appropriate to create a ban appeal outside of the instructed e-mail address? Good on you, for the direct and rather snappy response. Didn't really seem like this user was particularly malicious, so I can get behind the unban.

If anyone could bring this thread to the attention of a moderator please I would be very grateful. Alternatively if anyone could advise the best course of action that would be great.

It would seem your question has already been answered, and surprisingly enough the information is in your own OP.

"You have been banned by a forum moderator. You may appeal here: [email protected]." Your best course of action is going to be following the instructions that you've been given by forum staff. Anything outside of their guidelines and instructions will only cause delays and obstacles for your goal of account "recovery".

Plus I'm pretty sure what you're doing right now would be considered ban evading.

As others have said, it doesn't matter if you were the original author. You need to cite your source, the original article or something along those lines to give credit where credit is due. So you are not following instructions in order to appeal your ban, and you have self-admittedly plagiarized material. You're walking on thin ice if you honestly plan on recovering that account.

Appreciate everyone's input so far.

You already have the attention of a Global Mod (hilariousetc).  Unblocking your ban is something only Admin can do.  All you can really do is send an email to the address you have for ban appeals, bump this thread periodically and hope for the best.

Concerned about the results of this time, this kind of event that can provide all the proofs, can you retrieve the account?

Hi there,

Yes 100% original. Myself and my colleague are currently building a site known as thecoinradar.com which is trying to push high quality reviews and tutorials for new people to the scene. There is a real focus on providing good quality information to separate ourselves from a lot of low quality stuff out there. (Which I hope is evident if you read the articles)

Most recently we have posted articles on Mulitversum (2 parts out of 4 completed) and the Nauticus ICO. We're looking into Quarkchain this weekend and Omnitude later in the week.

These are posted on reddit, steemit, medium and promoted on twitter / facebook through aliases waterproofhair, ThatICOGuy and on reddit joshherby. If you would like me to I can further edit any of these posts to show that I am the author.

It was probably banned for copy and pasting. People obviously shouldn't be banned for sharing their own original articles but it should probably be noted that you originally posted it elsewhere and provide the source. Are your articles 100% original? Seem to get a few hits on google from other sources:

Multiversum (“MTV”) is, and I quote, a “4th Generation Relational Blockchain”, but what does that actually mean?

First generation is the original, Bitcoin and its forks. Based on Proof of Work mining. The second generation, Ethereum et al., introduced smart contracts and the possibility of tokenisation – consider how many cryptocurrencies run on the Ethereum blockchain. The third generation looked to build on previous generations and considered the issues of scalability and speed and making mining more energy efficient. Different approaches were considered, including Proof of Stake validation rather than mining and the possibility of off-chain routing.

thanks for providing the screenshots mdayonliner

I've edited the medium article so when you arrive at the links section at the bottom it now links to my bitcointalk ThatICOGuy account.

The reference to the thecoinradar.com in articles that I post is also a site in development that is owned by myself. you can see this when you search on whownsit.it:

http://whoowns.it/#whois/thecoinradar.com.

My email address is listed there which is the same email registered to the ThatICOGuy account.

Seems like indeed he is the original owner of the article.

The user need justice IMO.

@OP: You can update the medium post with some additional reference that proves you own ThatICOguy bitcoinTalk account since you can not access your bitcoinTalk account now

If you indeed are the author of both posts, then it is not plagiarism. We need to wait for the moderators to reply about why exactly you were banned. If it was for those posts, it would be valid reason for the mods to reconsider.

Thanks for replying The Pharmacist.

You're right, the original post didn't link to the original post even though the original was from myself, albeit from another website (medium)

Bitcointalk post:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.36152440

Original:

https://medium.com/@THATICOGUY/multiversum-token-metrics-part-2-4-the-second-part-in-a-series-of-articles-relating-to-the-f4bac7e4d63c

As you can see both are from TheICOGuy author.

I can only hold my hands up here and say I made a mistake and was not clear on the forum rules on citation and referencing. I have now read the whole post from mprep, https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/unofficial-list-of-official-bitcointalkorg-rules-guidelines-faq-703657 and will not repeat the issue / abide by all other forum rules.

From your own admission, it looks like your ban is for copy/pasting.  There was just a discussion about whether it's appropriate to copy/paste content that you're the author of from the internet into posts on bitcointalk.  There wasn't anything official that came out of the discussion, but the bottom line is that even if you're the original writer of the material, you still should cite the original source.  There would be no way to tell the difference, would there?  Nope, there wouldn't.

Maybe you can convince staff of your argument, but I highly doubt it.  You should have given the link to the website you initially posted the stuff on.
If you indeed are the author of both posts, then it is not plagiarism.
Yeah, this would be one of very few cases where a permaban wouldn't be appropriate.  I'm not exactly hoping he gets one if he's the original author.

Hi Guys,

I'm reaching out to a moderator here as yesterday my account (ThatICOGuy) was banned

You have been banned by a forum moderator. You may appeal here: [email protected].
The link to my account was as follows: https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/thaticoguy-1855694

Im not entirely sure why this was for but from reading through the forum rules I believe this is due to posting 2 similar threads as I recently posted two recent articles regarding Token Metrics of the Multiversum ICO. this was something that I had originally posted on a Medium article (I am the author) that I copied and pasted into a new thread on this forum. (One of them now seems to be removed), the other is here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.36152440

The only other thing i can think of could've been me replying to peoples Twitter audit requests as some of these posts were deleted earlier in the week (I have a pro account).

I have now read up on all the forum rules (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/unofficial-list-of-official-bitcointalkorg-rules-guidelines-faq-703657) and will not make any further issues, I will stop posting threads in general to make sure Im in line with all rules. This is a great forum and a great community that I enjoy being a part of. I try and post useful information and am here to learn, contribute and help others where possible.

Is there any helpful moderators out there who would be able to lift this ban or could someone direct me to the right place please? I would be very thankful

Thanks,

Josh
