This looks very different from bitcoin.  Centralized credit system rather than decentralized monetary system.  Apple can create and destroy credits on this system at will, but most likely will have them reflect dollars or other fiat currencies.

hmmm... wonder if this is related to the current drop in BTC.

I don't think so , prolly drops because lot people selling their bitcoins to buy new asic miners
