Orchard (faucet) is up. There is not another one that I know of.

What happened to ABY? Just another dead coin Huh

First.Bitcoins,
Thank you for chiming in so fast about my question! I'm glad you are staying in touch with the community and wish you the very best...
not just because I hold ABY but because this is the only ALT I actually believe in. Altcoins for a GOOD cause are not just rare but nonexistent. (IMHO)
Keep up the good work!
P.S. When will the "Orchard" be up and running again? Is there any other faucets around? I can't find any.

Coins don't have to do anything, only exchanges AFAIK. What is NY state going to do? Track down all node operators in the world and fine them?

A pertinent question. What is (say) an Estonian going to do when he gets a stern letter from the American regulators...other than flip the bird?

The problem is not for the user , it is for the devs.

Under FinCEN, if the devs are in the US, and they operate a pool, an online wallet, tipping bots, or like AppleByte, a music site - then FinCEN deems them to be a MSB (money services business) and subject to US federal regulations.

Under NY regs, any type of business associated with a digital currency, even simply creating one, makes you subject to the Bit License.

We all thought the regs just applied to the exchanges, but this is not correct under the latest rulings (like the Ripple case). The regs apply to anyone located in the US, who holds coins in custody for another person, that is what makes online wallets, tipping bots, etc fall under the new regs.

AppleByte is alive and well. We are in the middle of registering with FinCEN and in NY, which all altcoins have to do now to operate in the US. The process should take about 3 weeks, and is very expensive.

See this post in our announce thread for details: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.11544306

Any alt that does not comply will soon have big problems. This registration will make AppleByte much stronger longterm. I wonder how many coins will fall from not being willing and/or able to meet the new regs?

I'll sit on them. I have quite a few... Out of all the obscure Alt coins I had high hopes about ABY. Oh well.

The coin has still a value of 30 sats. I would not call it dead, there is just less activity around development at the moment. A good new team is able to reactivate the coin easily.
