I honestly don't know where this is going, I feel the entire point of this application is a waste, I appreciate everybody who has supported thus far, and thanking them isn't enough I feel, but I don't really see theymos doing anything about this. But I am not ready to give up on this yet. I still want to help people, and I'll try what I can do best.
I feel the same.

I won't give up my application as well, but I don't think he is going to increase sources now.

If theymos decides he needs more sources, I am available.

A friendly bump.
Thanks bud, I don't really know if this helps or not.

@puggy: Seems like you yourself got tired?  Tongue
Its not a question about me getting tired, I have a messy overall schedule, and I almost keep forgetting that I have responsibilities here as well. I wish I have more than 24 hours in a day.   Undecided

It's very disheartening that I don't have a single merit since I joined this platform. Is there any other ways of earning it aside from actively participating in forum discussion?
Yeah if you have a post history like this, almost don't ever expect to get merit. You don't have to write long passages to get merit, just make posts better than everyone else, make posts that have better content every other user, and people will start noticing you,and merit will follow. Don't post to get merits, post to share content, knowledge, and humor.

Nope. Embarrassed

Keep bumping this thread. Loyce's application took a few months to get approved.. so don't give up Smiley
+1 from me
Thanks, bud. I haven't given up on the merit source, I just haven't dedicated enough time on giving out a proper application.  I think I'll have to re-do my application(again). Also,I need to stop being a lazy slouch.

I am not sure theymos review this application or not. I think not yet. I always support merit source application if posted by reputed member's. And I believe pugman is one of them. May be it will take time to approve by admin. But I think pugman deserve it.
Theymos please consider this application ASAP. I have visited his merit history now. He distribute his smerit fairly. Really forum need more merit source.
Thanks again, bud. Appreciate it thoroughly. theymos has seen this application, I'd definitely think so, he hasn't yet given me the flaming sword. He's testing me, for sure.  Grin

I'm not Theymos but kindly permit me to drill you a little... Roll Eyes . If you became a merit source what would be the highest merits you could award? Do you think any post deserves as much as 50 merits? Would you award such huge amount of merits to a post you might consider the most appropriate in your opinion?
Deserves 50 merits, perhaps, its subjective. But will I gift 50 merit in one go? Almost never. I'll keep my high merit capacity to like 10. Giving merit to each post, is totally based on each person's opinion,so I wouldn't comment on that.

Hello pugman.

Thank you for supporting my application. I consider you a great member of this forum and your support means a lot to me.

I agree with you about theyoungmillionnaire, he would be a great merit source and that would be nice for the Filipino board.

Friendly bump. Theymos please consider this case. Really we need more merit source to keep continue merit system. Otherwise system will dry day by day. Merit circulation decreasing recently. Need to keep fresh.
Thanks for the support, have been having a tight schedule IRL, so having little to no time to actually merit some people here. I should be able to clear my schedule in a day or two.

Are you an alt of pugman? If not, then why are you bumping his thread?
He's not my alt.

As a relatively new jr. member, I've been having trouble on how can I get merits without really begging for them as I know that is not the proper way in this forum. Thank you very much for this!! I'm yet to try these but I can already tell that this is going to be really helpful hahaha. Thank you OP!!
And why exactly are you thanking me? For the posts in the OP?

Jet Cash was suggesting a new system where that would be allowed. Passing on the spendable merit without meriting a post. See this thread https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.41708080
Right. I forgot about that.

I'd like to suggest that you should reconsider #5 and #6 on the OP. trust me on this, change them and you might have a chance at becoming a source. personally I'd advise against making you a merit source period. because I don't find you trustworthy but that's just me maybe the admin has another idea.
Thanks for looking out for me? I understand why you don't find me trustworthy, and I also know why theymos doesn't want me to make a merit source, multiple reasons actually. But that doesn't change anything, I still want to help people, and still want to spread knowledge. That is my motive and only that.

I need to do a few things first, do what I am supposed to do, inorder to make my application a stronger one. Until then, there are better people who need to be a merit source.

I know a few and I'd suggest them(none of them are my alts):

It's not necessary to be alt for bump. I believe theymos should consider this case agin. Since this thread wasn't lock it means pugman still not consider for merit source. That's why I bump this thread again to pay attention from admin side. Thanks for your question. Hope you are clear now.

I award meits to posts that I like, and that I think contribute to the forum. I can't see why anyone would feel comfortable with a different policy.

Moving on - Wouldn't it be useful if I could delegate some sMerits to members like pugman, and then the admins could review the way he handles those to help them to decide on new appointments?
I usually merit posts which have good use of grammar, and has some good insights to the topic being discussed.

I think this is one of the problems with finding merit sources. At the moment we are pretty much relying on users applying for the position, and having an history of receiving merits, and sending them. This probably isn't the most optimal way of selecting merit sources as not every potential merit source is going to have good quality posts, but may be pretty good at finding, and rewarding others. I know that the listing of 10 posts shows your capability kind of, but users with a history are far more likely.

I think I was only accepted due to the amount of merits I received just before my merit application. I don't know if that would of been the case if I didn't have that.
I am pretty sure there were multiple factors that lead you to become a merit source.

I am not the fan of concept giving Merits to user for delegating sMerits ( As it cause  half of sMerits loss in process.)
But I agree with your choices of considering pugman and seoincorporation and I see no harm in delegating your sMerits to them.

Once again my support for pugman's Merit Source application.

Well I didn't apply, but I did receive quite a few points in the initial phase, and I tried to pass them on to post that I considered to be good and helpful. I think the fact that I have never taken part in a bounty programme may have been another factor in my being appointed.

Sometimes I find myself meriting posts that I don't outright like, but they bring up good points. I guess you could see this as meriting posts that I like, but there's a few instances that the user is too outspoken, and throws a bit of abuse in there. But, fundamentally they are bringing up good points. This reminds me of a user that was banned recently.

@pugman, you are meriting the posts that you like or the people that are supporting you, that's bad and you should reconsider your meriting method. just don't merit somebody as a thank you or as a like.
Please point me to the people about the bolded part, I might be wearing blindfolds to that. However, I do agree that I used to merit posts that I like(on rare occasions), and I have stopped that. I have instead started giving merits to random newbies and members who really need it. If you're talking about my questionnaire thread, I merit very few people there, and even if there are a few repetitions of names, I don't mind meriting them because they also need to rank up.
I can't imagine there are many merit sources meriting posts that they dont like. Looking through pugman's history very quickly, they certainly do not exclusively send merits in the manner you are suggesting. If they were giving merits to their buddies, for unwarranted posts, this would be considered abuse and it would be squashed.
A lot of merit sources merit posts they like. I can boldly confirm that I do not merit my "buddies". I send merits to a posts that have decent English and has enough thought into it and are good, worthy enough to receive my merits(atleast).

however it'd be great if he could take on the inactive sources merits

It would not be great if we worked towards centralizing merits, but your idea could still work. Pooling the inactive source merits and distributing them amongst the sources in proportion to the amount of sMerits they receive monthly when compared to other sources, might be a decent way to recycle those merits.

by the way I can't find the application form kindly help thanks,
Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin made my day  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

If you want to be a merit source:

 1. Be a somewhat established member.
 2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully.
 3. We will take a look at your history and maybe make you a source.

I am especially eager to have merit sources in sub-communities such as the local sections.

You really need to read the entire topic (Merit & new rank requirements) or this (following) will be really hard for you.

Wow, just went through the forum and see lots of high ranking members , hopefully I will get there

...it would be people that are distributing merit in a unique and useful way...
I am at the same page like bill however IMO it should be same for both merit source and a non merit source.

I am not saying my one is unique or very useful but when I merit a post (although comparing with you guys I have very little LOL) I make sure I do not focus on the rank. I keep my eyes away (it's hard but I try my best) from the left part of my screen.
It gets really easy when you see the rank and then merit a post (lately I am practicing this a little though   Tongue ) coz by default there are not many high ranked members (especially Hero/Legendary) who bother to post shits.

By the way pugman, I not questioning your merit giving strategy here, I am just opening up my merit giving practice.

I just took a peek through your recent merit history, and it seems like a majority of your (recent) merit has been sent to legendaries, reputable hero members and the more "famous" lower ranking members. While this isn't a bad thing, it might be something that will count against you when being considered as a merit-source. This is just my own thoughts, but if I was looking for new merit-sources, it would be people that are distributing merit in a unique and useful way, rather than piling onto the same legendaries and the lower members that are already on path to ranking up. I requested your full merit history in Loyce's thread, so maybe we'll have something redeeming going back a little further.  Kiss
I realized that, but finding good posts ain't an easy task on bitcointalk. That is for sure. I am still looking for a lot of posts, reading them and their post histories and never does it end well. I also don't keep tab on which rank member I merit, but I have recently started focusing on that. I have been telling this a lot,but the existence of good normal posters with actual posts is like a 1%. Every where you see bots, you see plagiarism and for god sake, those facebook/ twitter reports. Those are annoying as hell. Thanks for your input bill, it is really helpful and I am still looking for posters to merit. I promise that I would try my best to find good posters who aren't legendaries Tongue.

You know, a "find a couple diamonds in the rough" mentality might go a long way in the regard.

Now that Loyce has been accepted (I think?) as a merit source it would seem that the competition has loosened up a little bit. I'm not sure how badly merit sources are needed presently, in the boards that you frequent, but you probably have a better chance now that Loyce isn't dwarfing the rest of the applicants. Good luck pugman, I think you'd do a fine job as a merit source; I still feel weird about the idea of applying personally, but you got my support regardless.
Thanks Bill. And yes, Loyce V is indeed a merit source now. The merit sources are to be increased in an overall perspective, but theymos knows the best and will make the right decision. Thanks for your support, it is very smuch appreciated.

If you get elected can you please frequent the trading forums when looking for merit content?  I seem to get more merit making fun of people on merit threads for being so cringe-worthy over anything I write about that I view as actually useful.
The trading forums as in Trading Discussion? Keep in mind that Reputation and Scam Accusations are child boards of trading discussion, and I visit those boards. I don't merit posts there always, or at all because I spend my time reading stuff there. But I might visit the Trading Discussion and merit a few (deserving) users. Most of the time I run into plagiarized posts or shitposts. So I don't spend any time at all right there. Your English isn't bad, I might take a look at your discussions.
I don't believe that trading, bounty, announcements and related boards should be part of the merit system. I hoped that merits would lead to an increase in good information ands help threads and posts. It would be great if Bitcoin Talk could return to the original concept of a foru, This was a place to meet and discuss important issues and ideas. Tading and money exchanges were confined to the arches and corridors surrounding the forum.
Bounty and announcements? Hell no. Trading discussions might be having good points if they aren't buried. But I think you're talking about Currency Exchange and related boards? Yeah merit, there is not expected or shouldn't be usually given, or given at all.
A friendly bump to support a deserving member.
Thanks, bud.

The "but" factor here is that A lot,A lot of people(not only shitposters) are not happy with the merit system, and why shouldn't they be? They tried so hard(at least some of them did) and devoted so much of their time on this forum, and a lot of users became despondent when the merit system dropped their hopes when they were about to rank up that very week.  And also the thing is,95% of the users are only getting merits from Meta Board/posting in merit related topics(I shamelessly include myself in the list too.),I mean look at this: Top merited topics.

If you get elected can you please frequent the trading forums when looking for merit content?  I seem to get more merit making fun of people on merit threads for being so cringe-worthy over anything I write about that I view as actually useful.

Thank you for clearing that up.

If you are interested in becoming a merit source, I would advise finding recent posts that currently have little to no merit. Anyone can find a bunch of posts that already have merit (they are public). The reason any given person would be added as a merit source is to allow them to give posts merit that doesn’t already have merit— ie. to broaden the scope of posts that receive merit, and indirectly, broaden the scope of people who receive sufficient merit to rank up (that have sufficient post quality).
Glad to. Thank you for your advice.

Most of those posts either already have a decent amount of merit, or are not recent enough to be relevant.

Also, since there is the allegation on your trust page, I may as well ask it since you are asking to be put in a position of trust, are you an alt of either lauda or aTriz, or any other member, past or present of ALU?
Thank you for your feedback. The reason for a couple of old posts is to spread awareness about learning new stuff.
And no, I am not an alt of Lauda or aTriz or any other member of ALU. And that is not an allegation, rather butthurt feedback.

Remove this one at the same time..

Code:
"Some posts that didn't make my list that were too close or were in locked threads:[list]"

and the last one will stay gone..

You have 2
Code:
[list]
and only one
Code:
[/list]
and it is automatically adding the 2nd
Code:

The post was edited way before this application was written. I think it was just a few days after the 25th of Jan. and the introduction to the merit system.

OK, that's one of the problems with editing posts, I didn't see it had been edited until much later.

It wasn't there originally but the post was edited and that was added probably after you posted this thread. There were other applications that all listed old posts as well.

it took about an hour to read one of your post and another hours to understand it. You're a good man with outstanding writing skill. I need to learn a lot from you. LoL. And with your long membership and deep understanding about the forum/community, I believe you would be able to be a merit source. And yes, we need more merit source in this good community. Good luck with your application and wish you the best.
Well, thank you very much  Kiss. I don't what to say because I am flabbergasted to a huge extent.
Wishing you good luck with your application, but I'll add just a little note here. Hope it helps you to get a quicker action to your application Smiley
I see you have quoted quite good posts but a bit old ones, tho. So I just wanted to point out the Theymos requirements.
