الإقراض السوق هي منصات على الانترنت التي تمكن المقرضين لإقراض للمقترضين التجزئة والتجارية. وخلافا للبنوك، الإقراض السوق لا تأخذ الودائع أو تسند نفسها. على هذا النحو أنها لا تأخذ أي خطر على ميزانياتها. ويتم تحقيق الدخل من الرسوم والعموالت المستلمة من المقترضين والمقرضين فقط.
الإقراض من نظير إلى نظير هو ممارسة مطابقة المقترضين والمقرضين من خلال منصات على الانترنت. وغالبا ما يكون المقترضون قادرين على الحصول على الأموال بسرعة وبشكل عام بأسعار فائدة أقل مما تقدمه البنوك المحلية، مما يجعله بديلا جذابا للقروض للبنوك. وغالبا ما تتألف القروض الصادرة من العديد من المقرضين المختلفين من الأفراد إلى المقرضين المؤسسيين.
المقرضين الأفراد والمهنيين تستفيد من خلال القدرة على إقراض المال في مجموعة من أسعار الفائدة على أساس درجات الائتمان الملكية المخصصة من قبل النظام الأساسي. وبما أن المقرضين عادة لا يمولون سوى جزء من القرض وينشرون المبلغ الذي يقرضونه عبر العديد من المشترين، فإن المقرضين يحتمل أن يحصلوا على عوائد ثابتة وجذابة بينما ينشرون المخاطر عبر العديد من المقترضين.
وقد شهد الإقراض من P2P نموا سريعا حيث يبحث المقترضون عن بدائل للبنوك.
وفقا لبحث مورغان ستانلي الأخير، يمكن أن تصل قيمة الإقراض في السوق العالمية إلى 290 مليار دولار بحلول عام 2020، مع معدل نمو سنوي مركب متوقع قدره 51٪ في الفترة 2014-2020.
