Personally, I send donations to any bitcoin related software or site or service that I find useful. I think this is the right thing to do, especially in this early part of the bitcoin timeline. However, I'll give Armory as an example. I no longer need to send donations to them, due to the 600k in investor funds they received. So I guess you need to do some research before you send donations.
I give every year. Uncle Sam is nice enough to allow me to use TurboTax to determine how much I am supposed to give to charity at the point of a gun.

I recently checked a few bitcoin donation addresses of bitcoin services and noticed the low amount of donations.
MultiBit has received ~ 230 donations (45BTC) since 2012. According to their blog they had 70k downloads in April 2013. I cannot believe that less than 1% of the users donated.
Bitcoinity has received ~185 donations (20BTC) since June 2013. There are always ~5k users connected to their service. So maybe 20k people who use the serivce and again less than 1% donated.
Same with almost every free service: ClarkMoody/Bitcoinwatch/Bitcoincharts/BlockExplorer/Coinflow/Bitcoin-OTC
Am I missing something? Otherwise I thing most bitcoin users are greedy/pathetic/inconsiderate.
Most people here made quite some money with bitcoin so a few bucks shouldn't hurt.

My website received less than 0.01 BTC donation but i never complain about it .
In defence of people, although they may not volunteer money if you actually ask they tend to be very generous. Service providers hate to ask but we shouldn't be ashamed.
Probably people think why pay if they can get it free. But is sad for frequent users, probably making profit with that app/website.
Greed is rife in todays world and we are all guilty of it most likely, so who cares?
I dont believe bitcoiners are much different in this aspect from average internet population, wikipedia.org also have problems with donations considering how many users using it and how important the donations are for them
boom! I was looking for this thread. People are cheap. Me included. This thread guilted me into sending a donation to multibit though. It was only .1 of a bitcoin tbf but that's a couple of beers at least.
Postponing purchases is an expected behavior on a deflationary economy. So yes, bitcoiners are cheap.
When pitching for bitcoin I always say that buying some bitcoins is beneficial to understand and learn how to control this behavior. It pays for itself even if bitcoin never "make it"

I am going to give my opinion, which in no way represents what may be happening, but it's likely due to the scarcity of Bitcoins(hard to obtain for the avg new user) and that they will likely rise in value even more.
