BTC to the MOON in 2019
Yes, it would be stupid if all our assets were 100% fiat as inflation would cause them to lose value over time but keeping a low amount of fiat in a bank or in cash would be very useful in our lives. That will help us be more proactive in life, especially in emergencies.

Like the correction a few days ago, bitcoin dropped more than 10% in just 1 day. If we needed money urgently that day, would we happily accept cutting losses? Meanwhile, with fiat, we will have no problems at all. The role of fiat is extremely important in our daily lives, don't try to deny its role.

But I wonder, how would we use bitcoin without the internet? If that can be done, why didn't Bangladeshi investors think of this when their internet was cut off for days?

The lack of internet worldwide will lead to a major collapse and it will affect not only bitcoin, so it should not be separated from the world economy in this matter. In any case, do not keep all your eggs in one basket, diversification is very important, this applies to investments and savings. Try to divide your funds into as many assets as you can, and part of the savings should always be available to you at any time, then you will be able to survive some temporary troubles with the lack of internet, electricity, or other possible collapses.

I guess diversification is the key. Don’t focus only on online investments but take part also in offline investments so that if unpredictable circumstances may occur like shutting down internet connection for a while, you will never be highly affected with that. And always have available funds onhand, it’s better to prepare for the worst than to be confident enough that it’s not possible but end up seeing yourself struggling to survive.

Internet shut down has never happened in our country but it’s highly possible. So always anticipate unexpected things to happen at some point.

Are we ready to go back to ancient times? I think no, it won't happen. I think there will be better internet technology for now. How difficult would it be if we went back in time all the information was printed and had to have a tangible form? For example, newspapers. Not only crypto, the whole world will feel a loss by losing the internet. Bitcoin is only a small part of the impact, there is a bigger impact if the world is without the internet. It seems impossible, because nowadays the internet has become the main need of every country.

We are currently in the world of technology. The world is moving forward, not backwards. Changes have occurred for the better despite the bad impacts. But that condition will continue. Because people will continue to work on fixing existing technology shortcomings.

Newspapers still exist, regardless of the Internet's success. Many people prefer to read them on top of online articles. Even paper money exists. The world is not fully digitized yet. It's process that will take a long time to materialize.

I get your point that the world is becoming more dependent on the Internet to survive. But it's not an indispensable tool (yet). Oppresive countries can block Internet access to its citizens and carry on as usual. Once the world becomes digitized, such countries will go as far as restricting certain areas of the Internet. Sort of how like China is doing today with the "Great Firewall". But this hasn't stopped people from using a VPN to bypass the firewall. The same can happen with Bitcoin in the future. It will become so popular that it will be truly unstoppable. People will find a way to get access to it regardless of current government restrictions. Even now, it's difficult to take down or limit Bitcoin usage. So long as Bitcoin remains decentralized, there should be nothing to worry about. Just sit back and relax. Cheesy

Then government party people thought that maybe the whole world goes without internet and we stayed in this bad situation for 10 days and in 10 days we realized how helpless we are without internet. Those who are responsible for creating this cruel situation in Bangladesh will never understand the importance of internet, they create such a bad situation just to maintain their political position.

And now the history came to repeated We win and the corrupt dictator loss and ran away.

I don't know if you know this that the ex telecommunication minister already get arrested and yesterday the new telecommunication minister advisor order to report why the internet was shut down the report says that the Ex-Telecommunication minter Zunaid Palak ordered to shut down the internet to the whole Bangladesh.

I hope that this should be the case with all such dictators who do whatever they want.

Are bitcoiner really have the decentralized system, which can't be controlled?
It's sad to hear that people were cut off for the Internet for days. That's improper and will cost so many traders their money. However, no matter how long the cut off the Internet, Bitcoin cant be controlled. I mean, the whole Internet had to shut down or ISPs have to block crypto related searches. BuT then there's starlink that doesnt rely on the local ISP. While some persons may not have the access for that while which the Internet was cut off, their assets is perfectly intact.

What will Bitcoiners do with their transactions/trades in this situation? Can a Satelite Internet connection can be only the way ?

It is obvious that when people who needs an internet connection to do their trades in business, they will find an alternative way to connect with other people to do their transaction.  Aside from the satellite internet connection, I read people can use radio wave transmission[1], SMS Bitcoin transaction[2[, Mesh network[3].  This might be a bit troublesome because, aside from the satellite Internet connection, most of these transaction methods can is limited for local or regional transmission.  One can use a combination of these methods to expand the range of transfer.

I am very happy to inform you and all the members who have discussed in this thread that the dictatorial government of our country has fallen, our prime minister has fled and our student and common people's united movement has succeeded. Now allready the new interim government has been formed and the Nobel peace laureate Dr. Yunus has been kept as its chief adviser and all respectable and clean background people have been kept as advisers including the youth.
And the most interesting thing to me is that the youth has got the responsibility of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and this is the issue of the bitcoiners of Bangladesh coming because the youth of Bangladesh want cryptocurrency to be legalized.

I am happy for the event, removing corrupt officials and replacing them with competent ones is one of the rare events that is worth celebrating.  This action might give Bitcoin enthusiasts a better place to do their bidding and probably Bitcoin will greatly proliferate since the new regime is somehow open-minded for technological revolutions.

The Internet is likened to water, without it our world will soon return to the stone age, just like without water we will die. That's why I believe there could be disruptions in some regions or countries, but global internet disruptions would be very unlikely or impossible unless the earth experiences incidents are beyond human control.

I agree with you, diversification is essential and its effectiveness has been proven for hundreds of years. But many investors are over-exaggerating about bitcoin and have the misconception of wanting to put all their eggs in one basket. No matter how good Bitcoin, gold or real estate are, there will be unpredictable risks, so diversification is extremely necessary.

If you guys don't know then let me say currently in my region Bangladesh the situation is unrest with the Quota Protest.
And this protest became massive only because of internet and social media. And for this, our Dictators shut down the Internet Connection of the entire country for 5 days to turn the situation towards them. To say that these five days our Bangladeshi people were completely isolated from the Internet or the world. You can visit this thread to know more details - Attacks on quota movement students

Now I come to the real point, most of us who are here have investment in cryptocurrency or bitcoin or selling services which is very related to bitcoin.

What will Bitcoiners do with their transactions/trades in this situation? Can a Satelite Internet connection can be only the way ?

Are bitcoiner really have the decentralized system, which can't be controlled? Because at the end of the day, I'm seeing that we are hostage to the government. It appears that all control is in the hands of the government i.e. to the ruler party.

Now I want to know if there is ever such a situation in your country then what should be the pre-preparation? Let's discuss-

The question is valid to some context as we have seen in almost all developing countries when there is protest or any activity against government they simply disconnect internet for unknown period of time so the people of that country completely cut from internet. But in developed countries they always respect opinion of public and avoid such things.

Developed countries might not cut off Internet access, but that doesn't mean you're free to do whatever you want. Governments will restrict or limit access to certain sites, whenever they see fit. If they consider Bitcoin to be a threat to the very existence of Fiat, they will do anything to help prevent people from accessing it. You'd need to use truly-decentralized methods to help circumvent government restrictions.

At this point, I think it's impossible to shut down Bitcoin or even limit its access. It's too widespread around the world. Even without Internet access, it's still possible to access the Bitcoin blockchain via the use of satellites. We can thank Satoshi for making Bitcoin decentralized and censorship-resistant. If it was centralized, it would've been easy to prevent people from joining the revolution. The project will evolve as developers continue to improve it. Can't wait to see what will happen once the whole world goes into BTC 10 years from now. The question is: Are buying and "hodling" BTC for the "big pump"? Cheesy

This is Indeed going to be a devastating situation I can't even imagine how one would feel here that almost all what I do on daily basis is dependent on the Internet connection. There is also a protest currently going on in my country, what we've been facing here has been series of juggling Internet connection from our major network providers few days after the commencement of the protest as the speed at which the network connection here has drastically reduced,  however should this situation happen here in my country no one knows how bad that this would be,  but the hope is going to be on the fact that it going to be general issue which the government are also going to feel the impact and can't keep it that long as they too will be hurting themselves and the economy of the country too.

Since my days of growing up till now I haven't heard of my country experiencing any internet outage for any reason to the best of my knowledge but we once experienced a partial breakdown of internet for few weeks and the panic was so much i could imagine a nation wide outage thats really a lot.

Now it's getting to our knowledge that the governments are basically having full control over our lives which is a reason bitcoin stands against, with the internet related outage we can be short out as bitcoiners or crypto related dealers. since this is a new experience I believe there will be a need for a solution outside the governmental reach but what could that be? because basically everything even the private satellite needs the general service of the internet to be launched.

At this point we might be stuck in the hands of the government.

For bitcoin, it can't be controlled by the governments but the use is obviously being controlled. No doubt
What are you saying? Haven't you stay a day or two because of poor internet or lack of network coverage at all in your country? Porr network and government shutting down internet completely for day are the same thing because you cannot access the forum, your trades, investment and other businesses that needs the internet to survive.

At the end of the day, it is obvious that the government can take full control of what is happening in the country by shutting down all the network providers, restrictions, and ban to mention a few other ways they control the country. And by doing so it will affect everyone in the country unless those who are way ahead of the country.

I have the opposite thought, it would be stupid to not have cash or savings. Inflation sounds very terrible and terrible but I want to know what is the annual inflation rate in your country and is it so terrible that it loses 30% of its value in a short period of time? Meanwhile, BTC could even drop 20% or even 50% in a few months if a black swan occurs, and I don't think it's a wise idea to have all of our assets in BTC.

Many people keep talking about inflation but do they really know how much inflation is in their country and what the short-term impact is? I guess not many people know but they love to talk about inflation every day. You should have some cash or some emergency savings because I believe that our cash will not suddenly lose 20%-30% of its value in a month or a few months.

Investing for the long term and saving for emergencies are completely different.

Of course. Always maintain a low portion of cash savings for emergency situations. With inflation rising like crazy, it would be unwise to risk it all in Fiat. A little over here and a little over there should do the trick. I'm talking about putting a portion of your money into Gold, Bitcoin, Cash, etc. (diversification).

While it's still possible to use Bitcoin without Internet, you'd be limited to the number of physical merchants/businesses accepting it as payment method. The vast majority are still sided with Fiat. Who knows? Maybe this will change once BTC gets adopted by every single country in the world. One could only dream about it. Smiley

I have also heard about some solutions to use bitcoin without internet but I believe that will never be possible, bitcoin is completely dependent on internet.

Well, I disagree.  We all know that Bitcoin's decentralized nature is both its strength and its challenge, but just because something seems impossible now though doesnt mean it always will be. Technology keeps shocking us with its wild new capabilities.  Solutions for offline Bitcoin transactions could show up down the road even if that seems impossible now.

As I said, there have been many articles about different methods to use bitcoin without the internet but we need to be realistic that so far there is no usable solution. It's all just ideas, hypotheses, and just on paper.

Actually, I have to disagree with you on this one also. The idea that there are no usable solutions for using Bitcoin without the internet isn't entirely accurate. Sure, the majority of methods are still in development or not widely adopted, but there are real, functioning systems out there.

For instance, methods like SMS-based transactions or using satellite technology to broadcast Bitcoin transactions already exist. Companies like Blockstream have been using satellite networks to transmit Bitcoin data, allowing transactions even in areas without internet access.  There is also the case of the Finnish Kryptoradio project which successfully broadcast Bitcoin transactions over a national digital TV network more than ten years ago.  These aren't just "ideas" or "hypotheses". They're operational technologies that people have successfully demonstrated in real life.  Sure, most ways of using Bitcoin without the internet are still getting off the ground, but it's not true there's nothing out there that actually works.

Talking about the future, if you believe that technology is constantly evolving and anything is possible then I do not rule out the possibility that a better currency than bitcoin will appear in the future when technology advances a level. Until we find a solution to use bitcoin without the internet, maybe by then there will be something to replace it.
I don't want to think too far ahead about what we cannot know, we should accept the fact that bitcoin is inseparable from the internet these days and for the foreseeable future.

If the internet is down there is nothing you can do until the connection is restored. If the internet is intentionally shut down by the government what can you do? Even satellite communication may be unavailable because the government may be jamming the connection. In this case the only solution is to emigrate out of the country or wait if you cannot travel.

I really don't think about it too much. I'm prepared to have some of my money in cash in case of emergency and that's all.
If there's Internet outage, I won't have my bank account, communication with some of my friends, I won't be ale to check prices, stocks, news, you name it. I'll have to wait it out and endure,, like most other people. The difference is that I have cash. I have almost the same amount of money in physical form than I have in digital, so I'm sure I'll be better suited to survive than people who rely on their credit cards.

With inflation levels rising sky-high, it would be dumb enough to hoard cash in case of emergencies. You're better off holding Gold or BTC in a paper wallet. The latter can still be used without an Internet connection. It's just that you won't have a way to declare transactions as final (unless you connect to the Internet and broadcast it to the Blockchain). It's something I wouldn't worry much about. Especially when there are many ways to get access to Bitcoin. The only downside is the limited number of merchants accepting the cryptocurrency as payment method.

At least, BTC is off to a good start. With due time, it will improve enough until it becomes a "force to reckon with". Just buy, "hodl", and forget about the rest. Wink

I hope this doesn't happen in my country.
A dictatorial government only cares about its own profit by sacrificing or ignoring what the people need. The only way to overthrow a dictatorial government is by holding large-scale demonstrations. When the power of the people has been formed, no one can stop it. During this period, all transactions using the Internet cannot be carried out, in this situation, not only my Bitcoiner feels disadvantaged, many other parties cannot carry out their routines as usual. The only way to get out of the hostage situation imposed by the government is by relying on satellite internet, you can be independent with satellite internet even if the government in your country does not have the good faith to turn on the internet.
I can agree with you, autocratic governments only think about their own interests, they don't think about the people of the country or even about the plight of the people, no matter what country they are in government. Demonstrators are fired upon indiscriminately when they agitate to oust the dictatorial government of our country. Even demanding fair rights in this country are indiscriminately shot and even given death penalty. As it has emerged within this country within a few days.

In a country called Bangladesh, internet connectivity was completely disrupted for almost 7 days. They systematically cut off internet connections across the country and even during this time they shot and killed students in various universities across the country. That was their sole purpose. However, they did not care about the fact that if there is no Internet, the economic speed of the whole country will slow down. Many crypto investors, freelancers and garments owners living in our country have suffered huge losses. Because of the lack of broadband and internet connectivity on different SIMs, all online activities in the country were disrupted or even completely stopped. Due to lack of internet connection we failed to invest, trading, cryptocurrency exchange, P2P transactions and even access this forum. Now the only way to solve this problem is to use satellite internet which can make us independent.

In addition to satellite internet and radio connections, mesh networks could be a solution, depending on the situation.

Seems the ways are very Complicated and currently in this situation I think implementing those are one kind of impossible thing.

It seems complicated, but it's not impossible. Even the internet as we know it today seemed complex in its early days. I'm old enough to remember my early internet experiences with dial-up modems and whatnot.  It was slow, complicated, and almost impossible for many to access. However, as demand grew and more people adopted it, technology evolved to meet those needs. The same thing can happen again if there is a need for it.

This is not only about bitcoin but for all those  innovations that can only be accessible through internet occurrence. And I'd say majority we have right now, internet connection is what we need the most. While this can be quite impossible seeing the internet goes shutdown, but we all know it may actually happen if there are unpredictable circumstances that suddenly occur. And for this, even if we aren't ready for that, but we all know we should prepare for it, for the sake of our bitcoin investment and make it grow more and progress.

Addition to mesh networks:
Seems the ways are very Complicated and currently in this situation I think implementing those are one kind of impossible thing.
The advantage of mesh networks is that they almost don't need investments in infrastructure. People only have to install a software on their Internet routers, and the software is mostly open source and free (based on Linux).

I don't know if in Bangladesh "modem-routers" are popular though, like in some other countries. Often ISPs lend them for free to their customers, and in some cases it is not allowed to change the software on them.

<✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂>
I have not found a mesh network community in Bangladesh. There is a conventional ISP called "Mesh Network BD" though, but that's probably just marketing.

It's interesting that mesh networking according to this site seems to be popular in Cuba. Cuba is also authoritarian and has bad and "supervised" internet service. So it's likely the conditions are quite similar to Bangladesh.
Let me tell you about our modem-routers mostly I can say 90%+ people are using those routers which give only 400squarfit range and when it cross the range the speed goes down very low. And as you know that Bangladesh is the thrid world country here everything is on development phase so there is very low percentage in our country which cover the Router or broadband connection.
And most of the users are friendly with the windows os, huge numbers of peoples think that Linux os is very complicated to handle. Anyway, all these aspects I think it's kinda impossible to spread up these kind of topology in my region.  Smiley
Anyway thank you for your info's about the mesh topology, it's gives me also an idea to start a new thing.

Pretty sure that it will cause some panic to other crypto holders if the internet is shutdown in their country for 5 days. Businesses that needs internet would surely not in a good situation and could lose profits within 5 days. If they want to use satellite internet then they can still access the internet but the question is, does the satellite internet on their country cheap or affordable?, some countries where $120 per month is already expensive and the salary won't have anything left for daily necessities.

Of course some structure is needed, above all to be able to communicate to attract new participants. In Europe for example most mesh network communities are organized as civil associations (for example Freifunk Aachen, which is centered in the city of Aachen in Germany (near the western frontier), but has also participants in Belgium and the Netherlands. I could understand however that in a more authoritarian country people would be more hesitant to organize "visibly" in such an association.

It is not mandatory to organize the community in this way. In theory simply a group of neighbors can install the software on their routers and start to communicate themselves, for example sharing a single internet node, or for communication inside of their neighborhood. But at least a website or social network profile is useful to coordinate, e.g. to discuss which software is used.

It is not only the matter of the cash it is matter of our Careers like as a freelancers and bitcoiner and trader I have in huge losses specially lose some of my client and failed to take any trades. Your case may be different because may be you have a physical business in your local area or something else that  so you are not too worried about this kind of situation. But have you ever thought about Bitcoin mining and will gonna happen to them? Or the freelancing? How are they doing at this time? I also have cash to pass this time but I am thinking about how to handle the next situation.

Business is not going to work if there's no Internet, unless you run a grocery store or something. Nowadays everything is Internet-based, so by not being worried I mean that I have money and I will survive, but I'm aware of the fact that people won't go to work because even some security systems in companies run on Internet, so no network - no access, even if the business is physical.
I'm not worried about miners because no Internet means no transactions for them to process. They can turn their miners off for a while and wait for the problem to be fixed. You're worried about not having a job as a freelancer, but this won't be your biggest problem.

I try to search about possible solution if it happens that internet will shutdown.

And here are the results suggested by this article https://www.altcoinbuzz.io/bitcoin-and-crypto-guide/4-ways-to-make-on-chain-transfers-without-internet/

I didn't try this but for sure there would be more easier method will be develop if there's certain cases like this will happen. Since there's nothing impossible on technology and maybe there are great devs could able to find a solution regarding on how they can transfer bitcoin easily without using internet.

But implementation will take a lot of time and money, it is not easy and cannot be completed in a short time, and will even be delayed indefinitely if there are not enough resources to complete it. Comparing bitcoin with the internet is quite lame because the needs of both have a huge gap. The internet is much more important and it has received strong support from the government to become as perfect as it is today but meanwhile I am quite sure that bitcoin will not receive the same support from the government.

Internet is one of the technologies right now that seems people can too much like if they got cut with their connection we know how establishments connect and operate with the help of the internet and of course, the higher countries do not want to have to stop this kind of feature technology operation so others don't need to get worried about, if the internet crash seems chaos and disaster to the world. This kind of thing is out of bounds with the others because your government restricts internet usage in your country and seems its seems you are having trouble with the Bitcoin transaction because it's connected to the network. A possible case scenario with this is your asset will become idle until you change your location without the restriction of internet connection.

Nothing like this has ever happened in my country that I know of. Even during nationwide protest, the government freeze the bank accounts of some people known that are involved in the protest but Internet was never disconnected. I only heard of government disconnect Internet from other countries. I noticed this is coming in only Asian countries.

What will Bitcoiners do with their transactions/trades in this situation? Can a Satelite Internet connection can be only the way ?
Yes. The government can have control over the underwater internet cables. Those internet providers using underwater internet cables are even regulated by the government, and they can be controlled.
Exactly. Same with my country as well, the internet connection has never been disconnected even for a day despite of some calamities that had happened so I don’t think I’m actually prepare for this. Not only me but even majority of my countrymen are not ready for this.

However, if there are actually instances that we citizens have no choice left but to prepare for this, I think our government also will definitely warn us ahead of time so we can prepare earlier.

If the government want to stop their people not to have access to BTC in the country, is very easy because they have the power to control anything in the country except decentralized currency, but they can disconnect the network from decentralized currency for their users not to have access to Internet in their country.

BTC is really prepared to face the situation, because we have heard many stories about some government that banned BTC and later unbanned it because they realized that it will help their people to eliminate poverty, delay in transaction and contribute to the growth of the economy. But the government that doesn't have the knowledge of BTC and crypto, it will be difficult for such government to have any feeling about their people, and they will make things difficult for their bitcoiners in the country because they will feel they are not benefiting from decentralized currency BTC.

The government's decision to restrict internet access is an act of desperation by leaders who fear losing control.  It's a clear violation of basic human rights and freedoms. As for Bitcoin, it's a stark reminder that while it's decentralized, the infrastructure around it isn't. Without reliable internet, Bitcoin transactions grind to a halt.  Solutions exist - satellite internet, mesh networks, shortwave radio... but implementing them is difficult, expensive and not always reliable. So they ain't perfect either.  Still, necessity is the mother of invention, as they say. I assume that if there really are such restrictions on a global level, people will look for alternative solutions and adapt.

This is what has happened here, the current government has been in power for 14 years, so even if they see a little movement, they are scared and want to suppress it. And now this movement has been suppressed in the initial stage, on the contrary, this movement has taken a larger form. As a result of which the Dictator government had no choice but to shut down the Internet and immediately issued a curfew.
And besides, our government has not officially given any idea about the specific number of dead, but some news 200 has been reported internationally. But in reality its number more than 500. And until today around 6000 students and protesters have been arrested.

In addition to satellite internet and radio connections, mesh networks could be a solution, depending on the situation.

If a country becomes isolated often from the Internet I can imagine business models for people in neighboring countries setting up receivers for this purpose, and could be paid in Bitcoin. Again the natural partners in the case of Bangladesh could be people from India, and I believe India should never be disconnected from the global Internet because computer technology is one of the country's main businesses.
In fact, the main business of the country does not depend on it. Depending on the governance system of that country, as far as I know, the democratic governance system is still in operation in India. Which does not allow the government to become a dictator. But the context of our Bangladesh is different, our ruling party has setup their close people in every sector from army to police through reservation quota in most sectors. And this is why our dictator is taking any decision at any time.
Currently due to shutdown of internet the main source of income of our country garment industry sector has been hit hard along with freelancing sector has also brought a big hit. But the point is that they don't care about what is happening in the country as long as they stay in power.

In addition to satellite internet and radio connections, mesh networks could be a solution, depending on the situation.

Mesh networks are created with a software you install on your Internet router, and the router will then be able connect to other routers in the surroundings, instead of only connecting with the ISP. This means that potentially your whole city can be connected this way, and it needs only a few nodes which are connected via satellite or other means to enable a connection with the rest of the world.

Since around 2010 already there have been many initiatives and some still work, mostly in European cities. The software is already quite mature.

In a densely populated country like Bangladesh it may even work that you could interconnect your whole country with this method, as there are strong WiFi antennas which can send and receive data to people more than 10 km away. And you could even connect to India: simply build a mesh network in a frontier city with your Indian brothers and sisters Smiley  (There seem to be no really big frontier cities unfortunately, which is bad for bandwidth, but even in a smaller city it would in theory work.)

Bandwidth would be always an issue in this situation, but to transmit transactions it would be enough. The mining sector in the country however would suffer, and also LN could be complicated.

[,,,]packet radio modem and it takes a data connection and modulates a radio transmitter to send out the information. [...] Thing is it only bypasses the LOCAL internet that is not working. There still needs to be a receiver somewhere in range (which can be several thousand miles) with a similar modem that IS connected to the global internet because pure and simple, using Bitcoin does require a connection to the global nodes.

No internet access that is crazy because I only hear it from you even in ongoing war like Russian vs ukraine the internet service is still alive even tho is not 100%. But if that the case the only way is going via satellite connection. There is internet service provider like StarLink or other I believe.

But If the Starlink had government license it can be blocked too, so in this case all connection will be dead and the best option is to flee to other country

I suppose that is an option.  But under such an attack on a much larger scale, I presume Satellites would not work either any more.  You would have no Cell Connection.  If that is the case, you are pretty much out of options.

One option would be to use Radio or alternative options that are not dependent on your local Cell Towers, Satellites or Internet Connection.  Bitcoin is barely even used normally, as in through Wallets.  People barely get to understand how it works.  In such a scenario I guess we would be out of luck because nobody else would even think of using Bitcoin through Radio or alternatives.  There are Applications that let you send messages through Bluetooth during a massive natural disaster, yet almost nobody knows of them.  So many of them unfortunately end up not being able to call for help.

Options exist.  It is just that they are too unknown and you would be lucky to find somebody closer than a few hundred kilometers from you who is using Bitcoin the same way you are trying to.

It will be very difficult for bitcoiners to cope with bitcoin without internet because everything is centered in internet. Even forum will be affected and other business activities. And as it is in the world now, every country should have alternative internet connection so in case the underwater cables are affected like what happened in Nigeria last few months, we can use the alternative. By right the internet should be connected without Sim Cards. And it is only when you want to make calls, sim cards should be needed.
Sim Card should be own by internet providers while satellite should be provided by the government. And it is be decentralized.

This kind of topic about Bitcoin being able to survive if there is no internet connection or if Bitcoiners can cope if there is no internet connection was raised last week. If such happens, it will definitely affect the Bitcoiners in that country, and the only solution to that problem is to patiently wait until the government finally restores the internet connection, or you can flee to another country that has an internet connection.

We have not experienced such things in my country; even the government needs internet connection too, and because they do need it too, they cannot completely kill all the internet switches in their country. They themselves will have it allowed in their residential places. For example, when I was a kid, there's this politician in the village. Any time he visits home, there will not be a network or internet connection. According to the internet providers in my place, the politician usually tells them to turn off the internet so that people will not have a network to make calls and inform others that he is in the village.

That's to say, the government also needs the internet, and even if they disconnect the society from internet connection, they will still have some network among their own residents. So, if you can find yourself close to their residential area, you may have access. But if not, you have the other two options that I stated above.

What will Bitcoiners do with their transactions/trades in this situation? Can a Satelite Internet connection can be only the way ?
Currently, no transaction in the BTC-network is possible without the Internet. If the Internet is disconnected or isolated (for example, in a certain region), neither accepting payments in bitcoin, nor P2P transactions will be possible. Therefore, the BTC-community should probably think about alternative ways to confirm BTC-transactions. With universal access to the Internet, the Internet network may be segmented \ isolated, or completely disconnected for an indefinite period of time, and in this case, btc becomes useless. I believe that for the complete independence of bitcoin (without this, what financial freedom can there be), bitcoin should have alternative ways to confirm transactions.

Satellite Internet connection is not a solution, because in some countries it is prohibited (for the purposes of Internet censorship) and you cannot completely rely on it.

I see a solution only if the Internet becomes completely independent from governments and other parties (which is practically impossible now), or the BTC-community develops additional ways to confirm transactions.

Are bitcoiner really have the decentralized system, which can't be controlled? Because at the end of the day, I'm seeing that we are hostage to the government. It appears that all control is in the hands of the government i.e. to the ruler party.
Decentralization becomes meaningless if there is no internet (government control of internet access).

Now I want to know if there is ever such a situation in your country then what should be the pre-preparation? Let's discuss-
In such a situation, the best preliminary preparation can only be moving to another country with a stable Internet connection. Smiley

If there were no pending transaction before this shutdown occurred then no problem, they will have to wait till the plaque is over. But If the Transaction is a selling Oder which has been placed in any of the exchange before this issue occurred, before that 5days intervals, it will surely have been sold to USDT. Then if it where to be P2P trade you imitated which fund has been sent to you and you haven't released asset before the shutdown, surely your client will file an appeal and the fund will be removed from you account by the exchange and paid to your client then when the shutdown is over then you can write a message to exchange explaining what led to the delay. The. For the satellite internet, am not awear about it.

That is very wired. We have not had this kind of experience in our country before, though we usually have internet issues sometimes but not a total blackout. It usually happens often but may be a geographical region internet shutdown but not the entire country. I believe the government reason to why they did so is because of the quota protest which leads to that, but as the case may be it will not only affect bitcoiners but will also affect government officials, because most of their activities which involve internet access will be affected. If I found myself in this situation I will have nothing to do because it's a national internet problem

The Silicon Valley TV show convinced me that it's a big problem that the Internet is essentially centralized, and so are major platforms that people are using and relying on. It's very unfortunate that certain countries are able to oppress their own populations by heavily restricting or even shutting down the Internet there. I hope that eventually we will transition to a different, more decentralized system that will make such actions impossible.
No Internet access is a huge issue. I would not be able to do most of my work and a huge chunk of communications without the Internet. And I would not be able to figure out how to access my BTC or transfer funds that I have in digital banking systems. Bitcoin would be on pause for me in that case, alongside most of my life.

I will only worry if the Internet is disconnected everywhere. In all other cases, disconnecting the Internet should not be a problem, and as a rule, if this happens, it is always temporary. Although I remember cases of disconnecting the Internet in a country neighboring mine, this was extremely, as the government justified it, a necessary measure to prevent terrorism. However, the world has become so accustomed to the fact that the Internet always exists everywhere that depriving it for a few days is equivalent to stopping life itself Grin. But in very extreme cases, this inconvenience can be endured.

So technically as long as there is a way to broadcast that signal and in a crazy event like having the internet beilng down I think that miners would be forced to use this type of method, or another type of roundabout method like this to keep the blockchain running. Um that's called a packet radio modem: it takes a data connection and modulates a radio transmitter to send out the information. It has been around since at least the early 1960's when the data was mainly a teletype communication.... Thing is it only bypasses the LOCAL internet that is not working. There still needs to be a receiver somewhere in range (which can be several thousand miles) with a similar modem that IS connected to the global internet because pure and simple, using Bitcoin does require a connection to the global nodes.

You cannot have a stand-alone localized Bitcoin network. Closest thing to that is something like a (local) LN channel to aggregate local stuff which then only periodically needs connection to the BTC mainnet to put the TX's onchain.

And this protest became massive only because of internet and social media. A satellite internet connection would be the best way to access the Bitcoin blockchain in oppressive countries like China and Russia. Starlink provides satellite internet service, albeit at a high cost. There's a more affordable solution called the "Blockstream satellite" which only transmits your BTC transaction to a network of nodes connected to the Internet (it doesn't give you access to the Internet itself, though). You can always use BTC offline via the use of cold storage wallets (eg: paper wallets) or physical bearer assets like the OpenDime or Tangem. You'd just hand in the physical item loaded with BTC to pay for goods and/or services. Just like how you would hand in paper money to someone else.

These kinds of transactions are completely off-chain. They won't be recorded on the Blockchain unless the sender broadcasts them online (making such transactions final). Governments will try to prevent people from buying/selling Bitcoin, but that won't stop anyone from trading in-person (Face to Face) or P2P. It's all thanks to Bitcoin's decentralized and censorship-resistant design. Otherwise, we would've been doomed by now. Cheesy

We live in a centralized world and the government is the one who manages everything, you should not expect that there will be some technology or power that can help us completely escape government control. The advent of bitcoin has given us increased privacy and it has been a huge success, but don't think it can help us escape government surveillance completely, it never will happen.

I have read a lot of news about the situation in your country and this is the first time I have seen the government impose a large-scale Internet shutdown at the national level. Because this would cause serious damage to the national economy, it is incomprehensible for your government to make such a decision.

Lastly, since you said there is no internet, how are you able to connect to the forum?

If you follow the news about what's happening in OP's country, you'll see that it happened a few days ago and things are slowly calming down. So it's understandable that OP can use the internet again, but as far as I know, things are still not completely stable.

Maybe decentralized internet will become a thing in the future and we wouldn't have to rely on Internet Service Providers(ISPs) for our internet connection. Elon Musk had shown us the way with Starlink, even though Starlink is a centralized service and relies on Musk's good will. Unfortunately, the crypto world is very dependent on the internet. I remember that there was a way for us to make paper Bitcoins and turn Bitcoin offline, but this would be very inconvenient.

Nothing like this has ever happened in my country that I know of. Even during nationwide protest, the government freeze the bank accounts of some people known that are involved in the protest but Internet was never disconnected. I only heard of government disconnect Internet from other countries. I noticed this is coming in only Asian countries.

We can't be certain for sure mate. The government has power to do what ever they so which and thus if they want to shut down the internet service provides in the country it won't take they much time. The truth is that they also need the Internet services to continue their evil communications amongst themselves so they might not consider that.
From what op explained, I already seen that it was be a bad experience for them. But he shouldn't be scared about his Bitcoins and then shutting down the internet doesn't literally take away it's decentralized. Yes for the time being when they have control of the internet you just have to let go and await it's return. There isn't anything one can do, but be rest assured that when it comes back you Bitcoins will still be there. That's why it's good to have alternative means of payments. That is what Bitcoin is and that is what you should consider it as.

So there are basically 2 scenarios here.

Scenario 1: Internet access to a particular region is shut down
If this happens it won't effect the bitcoin network in any way because bitcoin is decentralized and the transactions will keep getting confirmed by the other nodes which are outside those regions.

Scenario 2: Internet access to the whole world is shut down
This is highly unlikely to happen because it would require a huge catostrophic event for that to happen.
Even in that case what would happen is that the internet might be down for some days throughout the world but whenever it comes back up the bitcoin network will resume and the transactions will be mined by the miners again.

So there is nothing to worry about.

Satellite internet and move to other country are the solution, I don't see any problem at all.

If someone can't even afford to buy satellite internet or fly to other country, it means they're not rich, not rich means not invest a lot in Bitcoin. That's why even there was a shutdown on internet connection in your country, it doesn't affect Bitcoin price.

No ones ready to face internet blackout.

I did see the news on several news channels, and clearly the unrest raises valid concerns that these politicians should be ashamed of as the job quota is pretty much nepotism which disadvantages the students for a chance to find a job in government and they should rescind their decision to avoid the discrimination.

And shutting off the internet just validates the protests and shows how dictatorial they are trying to be...let them act civil about this & not go the path they have chosen.

Now I come to the real point, most of us who are here have investment in cryptocurrency or bitcoin or selling services which is very related to bitcoin.

What will Bitcoiners do with their transactions/trades in this situation? Can a Satelite Internet connection can be only the way ?
This is why I don't like politicians because they will force unfavorable laws on people and when things go south they will be in the comfort of their homes away from all the heat.

I guess satellite internet is the way to go, hope Elon Musk is watching and making services like Starlink available to avoid such government shutdowns and keep crypto usage in such situations.

Some other companies have started trying to compete with Starlink. With time, we will see more like Starlink. Starlink is cheap and affordable in my country as the kit is just around $285. With a monthly subscription of around $25 with unlimited internet access.
Yeah, but it isn't portable. That's probably my main concern as of now. I don't think any competitors would be in the same playing field as them soon... Being able to launch the satellites as and when they want would give them the competitive advantage that most others wouldn't have.

Which means if I do not have any subscription, I can still be able to broadcast bitcoin transaction using Blackstream Green wallet? I just want to be certain and maybe I can test it and see if it works.

But there are some people that will be trading and involved in crypto in a way noncustodial wallet may not only be what they are using. Government cutting electricity would be a big disadvantage for these kind of people.
Yeah, you just need to purchase the kit. The way I see it is that there will always be areas where it can't be completely fulfilled. The needs of the people cannot easily be substituted by most of the other solutions there we have. I bet if the internet is cut off, there'll be better things to worry about anyways. Fulfilling the basic needs should be the priority.

The problem with Starlink is that while their satellites can reach every part of the world right now, they don't necessarily have the telco licenses to operate in many of those countries and they have to get approved by said countries. Which of course means some countries will never get this tech.
That is too bad. It would apply to literally any tech that operates on the radio frequency. I don't foresee a quick and easy solution to circumvent this. In areas where internet is restricted, I would think that regulations would prohibit any of these sorts of tech. Doesn't mean they cannot operate though, Iran is an example.
It will help with paying the invoice, but you can't get the invoice on the website in the first place without the internet.
If your internet is cut off, then the focus should be on facilitating offline transactions. If you can get internet to retrieve the invoice, then this topic probably wouldn't be a problem at all.

So far, I've only seen Starlink as a reasonably cheap and fast source of internet for most areas. Generally, this is still a work in progress where the adoption rate is still quite low as compared to your traditional connectivity.

In terms of general Bitcoin's connection, the only current provider that I'm aware of is Blockstream. Blockstream has a satellite which allows their users to broadcast transactions through their satellite. You would have a good connectivity unless you've got a signal jammer in your location.

For now, satellite internet is becoming more accessible. The growth is accelerating quite fast. Here in my place, Starlink kits are selling like hotcakes. People who are into online jobs and who stay in the cities solely because of faster internet are now beginning to go home thanks to Starlink. So, this is somehow a solution to the concern of the internet being under the control of the government.

As far as the situation in Bangladesh is concerned, it seems to me the decision of the government to implement an internet blackout is suicide. It was an extremely poor decision on their part. As if it prevents the people all over the country from communicating with each other. As if it addresses the main issue. Whoever made the decision was poorly advised.

I'm not in any way preparing for this scenario. After all, an internet blackout sounds ludicruos to me. If my country plans to implement something like this in the middle of some chaos, there will certainly be a lot of opposition that it won't push through. In the first place, such decision hurts them more than everybody else.

Since I was born, I have yet to hear a newspaper or TV headline saying that internet service has been completely shut down for five days in a country. But being a citizen of Bangladesh, we have had this bad experience. People of Bangladesh may well understand how difficult it is to continue online based activities when the internet connection is disconnected. Freelancers in this country were most troubled due to lack of internet along with us.

If a country does not have internet Access, it may affect Bitcoin, because Bitcoin is a virtual currency. Which can be transacted online only. Moreover, internet is also required for Bitcoin transactions to be successful. These are not possible if the internet service is interrupted.

Turning off the internet for 5 days to make the situation more conducive is a very stupid step, because there are many sectors that will be affected by this and it will only make the situation even worse. What your government is doing only shows that they are a dictatorial government and they should be removed from their position.

What will Bitcoiners do with their transactions/trades in this situation? Can a Satelite Internet connection can be only the way ?

There is nothing they can do, because to carry out transactions requires internet access, how can anyone carry out their transactions when they cannot connect to the Bitcoin network? However, a satellite internet network could be a solution to this, but as far as I know, the satellite internet network providers that are most easily accessible to people, such as Starlink, are not yet available in Bangladesh. But there is another problem, even when you have access to a private satellite internet network, you may be faced with signal jammers which are usually used by the government to block signals in certain areas, but this can be overcome if we go out of range.

The Bitcoin network is decentralized and the government will not be able to intervene in this network. But again, all of this requires internet access, so if there is no internet access, how can anyone carry out transactions. So internet access is very important.

Internet via cable is more popular and available for more people than Satellite Internet connection that is only an alternative in some countries and areas, not everywhere on Earth.

Governments can do many things and sometimes they can abuse their power to request a company to stop a service, I am realistic about that. But the chance for all governments agree to do the same thing and succeed against their citizens globally is very small.

You need to prepare different wallets for storage a long time with cold wallets, more regular transaction need with hot wallets and prepare for time you don't have Internet. What will you do?

Prepare different methods for your fund transfer, spending like have some cash in your pocket, some money in your bank account, that's preparation.

Yes. The government can have control over the underwater internet cables. Those internet providers using underwater internet cables are even regulated by the government, and they can be controlled.
I don't think our country will also cut the internet connection just like what Bangladesh government has did. If this happens, surely a lot of companies and freelancers will certainly be in trouble, even accessing our crypto investments will never be possible. However, it cannot be denied that if the government will demand for an internet shutdown even for a couple of days, it will definitely happen but they should also face all those complaints and address them properly as much as possible. Government without those big companies that are paying them taxes will considered be incapable and invaluable.

We have not had such experiences in my country before, just as Charles mentioned, and I don't even wish for such to happen in this place because it will just make life very unbearable.

Bitcoin won't be the only point of payment that will be affected; bank transfers and other payment points won't also work, so how will there ever be any transactions to take place during that period?

The only option we will have is to go back to our old trade ways, which is to use whatever we have in our hands (fiat) to do business with, and anything that has to do with online will be closed for that period. It's not something I think there is any other option than to accept it that way, or better yet, if the person can't bear it, it's just to leave that country for the main time.

It didn't happened to my country and to me yet, so I guess on how did you survived with that situation is likely what I might do as well. But having a satellite connection is going to be a good idea, one of it is with Elon Musk's Starlink.

While your situation is an isolated if it relates to the Bitcoin network, the network itself will continue to operation from the other parts of the world where internet is active and there are miners that have their mining farms operating to keep going.

Now I want to know if there is ever such a situation in your country then what should be the pre-preparation?
I don't know, data connections might also be stopped but that is unacceptable if the government itself is the one that instructed to turn off internet connection.

This must be a very bad experience for you guys over there, 5 days of total internet lock out is a divastating situation I can only imagine this since I haven't experienced such before, but I remember the feelings back then when the government in my country blocked twitter now X in my country, it affected works and businesses alot even though we hard live internet.
But in your case the whole internet is off which is more severe compared to ours, what I want to ask is, do you know anyone using sitelight to connect to the internet such as the Elon Musk site, because only from such information from users can guarantee you that, their still hard internet even though the rest are shout down.

Lastly, since you said there is no internet, how are you able to connect to the forum?

No doubt
