There's no drama. I just wanted to make sure that I (and people like me) were doing a necessary and useful thing for the forum.  I made sure that many people agree with me. That's good enough for me. And I don't care about what that smug "somebody" says anymore. Thank you all for your comments. Believe me, they're important to me.

I'd like to say a few words about the post-reports. I personally do them for a reason. Imagine if we report about plagiarism to moderators like this

or this

Do you think the moderators would be in the business of checking plagiarism themselves? Follow links, look for phrases or paragraphs in articles that have been plagiarized? I think that in the best case in such a situation the moderator will simply delete the plagiarized post, and the plagiarizer will continue his dirty work. So I create a post-report first, and then when I send the report to a moderator, I include a link to my post-report in the comment.

Yes, I understand that such post-reports are a matter of trust in the person who creates them. Therefore, anyone who doubts the veracity of such a report post or just for the sake of interest can always check the veracity of the report post. And in the case of a false post-report, accuse the author of such a post of forgery, with all the consequences for that author.

Thanks again, everyone.

I think the topic can be closed so that it really doesn't turn into a discussion of some imaginary drama.

The background of my question. Recently one user, let's call him "someone", called my posts-reports in this thread stupid. That, they say, plagiarism on the forum - this is strictly the business of moderators. That it is not our, ordinary users, business.
It sounds like this drama belongs more in Reputation than in Meta. Either way, Mods would have a lot more work if they'd have to find all rule breakers without the help of regular users, which is why the forum has  "Report" link on each post.

Meta-answer: I'm not sure if Mods even check the plagiarism thread, so when I find plagiarism, I post it as reference and also report the post directly. That usually results in a ban.

So still, is there a need for such posts-reports? To make the forum cleaner and to help moderators. Or all those who post in this thread are wasting their time and doing unnecessary work?

Moderation doesn't read all posts, so they miss some posts which violate forum rules. And based on my personal observation, creating such post is more likely to make moderator to take action. So i'm sure it's not unnecessary / time wasting.

Without getting into personal dramas, I will just say that moderators do not act on the basis of public posts (at least as far as I know), but only in case someone reports plagiarism using the "report to moderator" button. Therefore, I would not call such a way of attracting the moderator's attention stupid, but perhaps in some way unnecessary considering the way in which every plagiarized post is dealt with.

Sometimes it's not so easy to explain in several words why do you report a post and you need to show a plagiarism pattern from plagiarism detector or make some other explanations. So right, the post with plagiarism will be deleted by report, but a report can have a link to a post with explanation why it was reported. It is firstly.

Secondly, having this topic should demotivate people from plagiarizing: they see that it's not just something in the forum rules, it is something real, others will see a post with plagiarism, it will be deleted and plagiarist will be banned. If it will demotivate even several users from plagiarizing, well, IMO then it's good enough to keep such a topic.

On the other hand, we could see that the number of report posts is decreasing from month to month, and one of the reasons is that an atmosphere has been created on the forum that this way of contributing to the forum is a waste of time. Everyone has the right to their opinion, but on the other hand, everyone can use their time the way they want.

It helps the forum to be more aware that plagiarized posts and contents are out there, it would be stupid if this doesn't help with the cause which is stamping out plagiarizers on the forum and make sure that the content of threads are organic and not monotonous. It also helps other users by being active in reporting plagiarized content so they can be noticed by older/long time members of the forum which in my opinion is a good thing because that means that you're active in the forum and not just a mindless post spammer.

I found the reason for this thread. More drama is brewing. It would be better to simply ignore everything related to reactions and the affected ego. I remember good advice from TMAN: take a shower in hot situations. Grin

Yeah it was pretty obvious at who this was aimed at, and now I just read again that convo and I coulnd't see anyone saying that plagiarism reports are stupid. Unless he refers to that part where he was accused of adding "fluff" in his reports in order to meet post character quota, but that's entirely different thing from saying that plagiarism reports are stupid/unnecessary.

So still, is there a need for such posts-reports? To make the forum cleaner and to help moderators. Or all those who post in this thread are wasting their time and doing unnecessary work?
Since I see it as a rhetorical question, no need to answer it.

Why are you trying to prove something to someone? Does this matter to you? Do what you do, and judge whether the moderators respond to you with good reports or not. If you catch someone who copies, you will do a good deed; the one who denies it takes the side of the offender. It would be interesting to see his post-history as well. In short, don't have to prove anything to anyone, wear a thick leather caftan, and don't pay attention to criticism from strangers.
It could be that the OP wanted to be sure that they are not really doing a stupid job. I can say that cleaning the forum is the job of everyone but there are only few who takes time to report these posts. But the reporters should also learn that some of their reports could be bad, so they shouldn't expect the moderators to act in their favour always.

The essence of the report plagiarism threads and other related threads is to help the moderators assemble such posts they will likely take action against.

I believe the point of this thread is your drama with the other user.

The fact if it's a stupid posts, your campaign manager already kick you because you're posting shit and your post should be deleted by moderator.

I understand you're still see many shitposts in your local board and you're hoping them to clean it up because they're supporting the campaign to improve local board posts. But you can't really harsh when you still see many shitposts, maybe they've report that post and the moderator didn't delete it? maybe they're busy? after all they don't owe anything isn't?

You're doing good for catching plagiarism and AI usage, I think both of you and the other user need to cool down.

This is just to bring attention of moderator towards plagiarism and calling these reports "stupid posts" is show that user is unaware of this forum working process.

Spam posts are also working on same way and only moderator can delete these posts but reporting these posts are appreciated and many users spam posts remain in the forum before report. similarly pliagrized posts remains for long time until we make report. Moreover these reports are reference to the pliagrized member why his account banned. So I think doing this is great work and should be appreciated

Reporting plagiarism is the work of anyone that is interested but moderators are the ones that have the power to make the final decision to delete the post and ban the user. Moderators do appreciate those that are reporting unwanted posts on this forum and it makes their work easier.

I would like to add that this user has a shallow mind, because in my person he called the posts of all those who write such posts-reports in this topic stupid.

It turns out that Mr. LoyceV has created his own thread for stupid report posts and everyone who posts there (and DT1 members also post there) writes stupid posts. And also get merits for those stupid posts.

Oops, but what is this? Mr. LoyceV even said thanks for my stupid post report. And even gave me a merit. But how come? For a stupid post?
You supposed not to mind people that are against anything there, likely one of their accounts has been banned because of their stupid plagiarized contents.

So still, is there a need for such posts-reports? To make the forum cleaner and to help moderators. Or all those who post in this thread are wasting their time and doing unnecessary work?
Why asking this question when you know the answer that reporting spam posts is good.

Thanks for finding this! I've reported his post too. This bounty spammer has 6 deleted posts already in modlog, now all he needs is a ban.

So still, is there a need for such posts-reports? To make the forum cleaner and to help moderators. Or all those who post in this thread are wasting their time and doing unnecessary work?
