Yes the Compliance regulations for any crypto related accounts has become so strict, they need KYC details for any transaction activity or they will lose their EMI License

All require at least an SMS for smaller amounts, all then require ID verification for larger amounts.
The ID verification amount really depends on the ATM operator and the state that the machine is operating in.
There are a lot of other ways to get BTC for cash. Even localcryptos.com is probably a better way if you have a place to meet that you feel safe.

Yeah, I heard there used to be ATMs (or exchanges) back long ago that didn't require anything. guess those are long gone. I figured maybe some nations might still have some

but yeah I guess I should just figure out some driving to local crypto. I'm slightly scared of the idea someone could rip me off.
seller "Hey, I'll give you .01 btc for cash.
Me okay cool here you go.
seller "Here you go, dont worry its gonna take 20 mins but you got it"
Me: Okay sure.
"Guy leaves"
It never arrives.

Idk, I guess it's just like I show the money, then, they give the btc, we both wait for the transaction then when clears give cash? Like sometimes it can take awhile. Idk

There is that risk I can be mitigated a few ways.
If you deal with someone with a high enough feedback the risk is less. If they have been on a site like localcryptos.com / paxful / whatever for years, and built up a high feedback and trust they are less likely to want to do something to damage it.
Also, most (all?) of the sites do escrow. The seller puts the BTC into escrow, once they have the cash they give you a code to release it. Once you verify the code is good and for the proper amount, you shake hands and they leave. The site, doing the escrow takes it from there. The other person cannot take it back.

Or, this is why when I do public meets to trade it's in a coffee shop or restaurant you can have a drink and wait for the conformation if you are not using an escrow.

Also, and this is just me, when GETTING money from people for crypto, I tend to want to meet in a casino. You can take a few random bills and put them into a machine.
Best counterfeit detection out there are casino slots.....

Why not check for yourself and try to look at every ATM on the CoinATMradar? and maybe you can find some BTC ATM that allows you to buy BTC without SMS/KYC.
Here https://coinatmradar.com/

Buying a prepaid sim as suggested above would be the best option because there are some ATMs that only require SMS/pin.
Check this one below I found a higher limit with only SMS verification in Canada.

There can be different rules for different states of the USA but as far I know they all ask for SMS verification and that's very much necessary for them because of the regulations but still, if you don't want to use your own phone for the verification there are some people doing this using their phones by money, however, you should accept the risk in this case also by using the phone verification the government can check how is exactly using the bitcoin and trace their activity that's what the governments want, usually. So, I don't think there is any ATM that does not require verification in the USA.

Kind of what I thought. How about Canada? Are there any over there?

And yeah I've used prepaid phones. It's a hassle to have to pay every now and then, none (AFAIK) just let you buy minutes, and then give you service indefinitely. Like seems like there would be somewhere on the internet that you can just buy crypto without ID. I'm so mad I missed out, not just the prices of back in 2013 and so on, but the lack of exchanges requiring KYC. I heard long ago you could buy without any of that. Which is part of why people called it anonymous. Too bad my tiny town doesn't have anyone who is selling btc locally I could just go buy some from someone.

On top of this. I guess I should be thankful for now there is still a way to buy privately. I'm sure at some point when the evil gov finds out about the concept of prepaid cash phones they'll freak out and ban it. Plz someone make a government only nuke! God I hate governments. I used to neutral and even like them until I found out about "kNoW y0uR cUsTomeR Cheesy"  I swear, I wish in the next World War, there was just a way for people in governments to get nuked and it would magically non kill any civilians. Angry Or more specifically, just all the pro-KYC/anti privacy members of gov.

It's so lame everyone wants your info. I'm guessing these ATM companies sell your phone number or freely give it to whoever asks for it, governments, companies, etc.
Any that do NOT require this?

If you're already planning on buying coins from an ATM and facing those extra fees, why not buy a prepaid sim card and use it only for the bitcoin atm? It will still be cheaper and easier than driving 100 miles for an ATM, assuming you might find one.
And no, I'm not aware of any US ATM that doesn't require at least phone if not full id verification, and a few brands have a mandatory requirement for those SMS confirmation codes.

No, not as far as I know. It's probably due to laws and regulations they have to follow I would assume? They all require KYC if you reach a certain limit so (and I could be wrong) asking you for an email address for example instead of your phone number would just make it easier for people to bypass these restrictions.
