most of the people who use bitcoin are gamblers. not to be taken in a wrong sense  , people who are good at gambling earn more than the rest of the people. gambling can make you rich as well as poor. once the money is lost it wont come back again. you have to earn well inorder to gamble.there are many sites which offer different type of games .one could play a dozen of games and earn bitcoins.

The one who always win is casino. Gambling should be only fun and everyone should gamble only with money that can lose without effort..

I hate chess, bores the hell out of me but I like to try & help where I can, put ideas forward etc.
If you find like minded bitcoiners who want to play chess for money can't you use a respected/trustworthy user to act as an escrow for you?
Play the chess game with your opponent & then inform the escrow who won (even better if the escrow is able to watch the game) & they can then send the funds to the winner?

It is no about escrow it is about programs analyzing moves and cheating in this way..

The thing is you don't even need a "full on bot".  There are many free services that will give you moves and probabilities.

I wish people wouldn't cheat so this could be a thing.  Undecided

don't loose hope because i believe that even though there are bots to cheat the game, humans are still better than bots
look at this, a person who beaten a computer in chess http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Blue_versus_Garry_Kasparov

IBM supercomputer called Deep Blue
Result: Kasparov–Deep Blue (4–2)

He actually got beaten afterwards playing a game considered his quickest defeat ever and that was long ago, right now no human has any chances against better chess engines, you can play vs a computer yourself, its called computer impossible.

Its a shame that this wont happen but there could be other chess modes to prevent bots, i dont believe there are bots for all the chess different variations

chess is one of the best games ever, also doing escrow would take way too much time and there would fees so its not useful i think

Fees could be pretty small, like 0.005 BTC or so, and that would still make it worth doing if the wager is 0.1+.

It's just such a small niche, I seriously doubt there will be any big sites taking it on or attempting to build a better way to handle it.

cant people just use computers to win against players and solve the captchas themselves? i think it would be impossible to win

I think there aren't any chess sites & there won't be any sites which provide chess games because there are many smart chess bots out there Roll Eyes
If you have time, try search it on google & you'll find many chess bots

This is what I thought. I can't see any site willing to take wagers on chess because even regular chess sites can just be cheated with bots and this will just happen when money is on the line. It's a shame but that's just part of the real world.

Yea I guess cheating would probably be an issue. I don't think it will ever be possible to completely eradicate cheating, I mean even if somehow you could detect engine moves or chess programs installed on the player's computer, the guy could just have one of his grandmaster friend play the game for him. However one way of reducing cheating would be through pattern recognition - require that all new people play a large number of games, say 100, before they get a rating. You'd then have to have a specialized software analyze and keep track of every game they play to see if moves they make during tournament play are out of character or not. This of course will not prevent people from cheating but should make it a little easier to spot cheaters.
To help fight bots, some of the paid chess sites require people to download and install their chess software (which contains tech that can detect programs installed/running on the player's computer) instead of playing from the web.

Nobody likes to play chess in Internet, and even more so with money, because there is a lot of bots. Sorry, but it's very discouraging.
Actually there are ways which people can use to avoid Bots in play. Captchas are one way that might be done after every few turns, but it does get really annoying then.

Smart bots can break through few captcha Roll Eyes
Even bots can't do it, it's very annoying especially if the round more than an hour

It doesnt matter if a bot can break through captchas or not, you could just use your phone and use a program to analize your moves and your opponent moves and there would be absolutly no way to stop that, only as said down there an engine that analizes both players moves and can more or less catch someone using a bot

Are you talking also about ReCaptcha? I've heard that it is very difficult for bots .. Even that bots can't pass through ReCaptcha ..  Roll Eyes

Usually, chess engines analyze a player's moves and can flag suspected bots.
But in the end, there is no sure way of checking if a person is cheating or not.

Well it could be done in a way to avoid some bots, make all the games be 2 min long max, 1 minute per player, i dont think there are many bots that can calculate fast enough in 1 minute to beat a human, there could also be like other chess modes, like the horde mode where white has only pawns and black has normal pieces.

OP seems to be asking sites which allow people to play with each other for btc or in house currency which can be bought using bitcoins. Chess.com afaik doesn't allow any sort of betting.

And to answer your ques OP no I don't know any site which allows you to bet using bitcoins, the main concern like others suggested is it will get abused by cheaters using super fast engines like Houdini, Rybka, Swordfish, which players like you and me can't defeat.

They'd most probably develop bots so they can even use these engines to play for them in bullet/blitz tournaments because otherwise it will be difficult for them to copy paste the moves in time.

Yeah, any game can be exploited and likely will when there's money to be earned.

I think what may work, though, is a smart contract (basically, a contract between two people that's decentralized and has a contingency -- i.e., whoever wins). Or even have two people just escrow the funds and that person oversees a match somehow, paying out the winner (I'd take on this job, as this would be an interesting thing to watch).

I would NOT trust some automated site for something like this though.

In any case, I think the idea for betting on chess matches is a good one -- I just don't think it's viable (there wouldn't be enough play to make it worthwhile I don't think). It's more of a niche thing.

'Slow and steady wins the race'
I have yet to find a site that you can play chess and bet bitcoin, I have looked quite a bit as well. I think maybe the best idea to give you the best chance of playing for bitcoin and being fairly certain you will not play a bot is to find someone trusted on this forum and arrange a game with the bet in escrow? Could start a thread looking for trusting members who want to play each other and see how it goes.

Chess is time consuming game may be this is reason why gambling site does not offer this game.Sometimes it can take hours to reach the result.People can play on block chain with direct challenge/invition to one another.

Even if there was one, I'd never use it. People will cheat their asses off if they knew that they could win bitcoins with it. I play sometimes at chess.com and you can see cheating people their constantly.

People who play professional chess and who are titled GM's etc sometimes have trouble defeating Chess Engines and most of their games end up in draw, for others it would be impossible to beat them.

I am a big chess fan, I've tried almost every chess server out there and I've found a few sites that allow you to exchange USD for in-house currency that you can then use for betting. I think something like that would be great for Bitcoin, 1v1 betting is pretty exciting  Grin  Has anybody tried this already?
I think if some site offers chess game for one vs one , has big chances to succeed.Chess game will be successful only competition among humans as already there is lot of discussion about uses of bot will make it less attractive.I would like to play chess with Bitcoin vs other human.Let's see may be in coming days we hear that some site offers this facility.

I can draw your avatar!
Like said, there is no way of beating a bot unless you are a big time player yourself on a worldscale, there are not many people that could. The idea in itself is nice though, doesn't it fall under sportsbetting? Could imagine there are online places you can bet on anything, you could bet on live games of chess like the worldchampionship or something like that.

Would be nice to have the players get some part of the wager too, but that would be a bigger risk to using bots just to win and get more coins.

You dont even need a chess bot software you could copy moves of your opponent into windows chess on the maximum level which should beat most people no? if not sure there are versions that would beat most people.

Lol, thats actually a good point.  A lot of available bots out there, and you'll never know if you're playing against one.  I would assume sites like this would get their userbase burned out unless the site had a really good way of matching opponents together (but i dont really see that as a viable option as most users want to remain anonymous)

Do you mean betting on the outcome of GM+ matches or just your own individual matches? If you're talking about the former, I don't think any of the current sportsbooks offer chess as a betting option - but you could certainly talk to them and see if they could find an odds provider. If you're talking about player against other people - IIRC someone created something similar - but there weren't enough players.
