As I got back 2 my pc about 40mins ago, i saw a black display, and as it turns out. My GPU was a complete mess, $270 worth, all gone. Sad... And as I sat there I thought...Are there more pros or cons when it comes to BTC mining?
Please list them...As i'm thinking about saving up for a GPU or not...
Donations will be greatly appreciated...

Don't you have warranty on it? If not, how old is the card anyway?

With no OC and those decent temperatures I don't think you can blame mining for killing your GPU - it certainly didn't overheat from mining... and it could have died in the middle of a game just as easily.

Agreed the only other thing I could possibly think of blaming it on other than just back luck is a weak power supply... if thats not the case then it just sounds like the same bad luck that causes you to have a flat tire on your way to work.

What card were you running and how did you have it set up... what temps was it running @ ...any OCing going on? I am no expert, just learning and knowing these things could and should help myself and others hopefully not run into the same issue

A 5850 running at about 65C...no overclocking involved

Yeah, definitely more cons than pros when it comes to BTC mining.  That's why there is currently 170+ petaFLOPS of computer power dedicated to mining.

Sorry, my sense of humor is very sarcastic and dry  Grin

lol, love that!

It depends on what hardware/budget you have at your disposal and if you actually really know what you are doing.

I'd say more con's at this point with the difficultly rising and the price on the decline. Perhapse when winter comes not needing a heater can be a pro.

It's amusing the tertiary benefits that come from overclocking silicon. From a cryptocurrency generator, into rudimentary heat. Mazlowe must be spinning in his grave seeing the pyramid of human needs flipping over and over.

Doubt (m)any will just give you money. Maybe you will get 0.01 from someone

Theres little to no point in buying a GPU imo for a return on its investment unless you want to bet on a rise in BTC value (which at the moment seems very unlikely to me), or wish to partake in many months of 24/7 mining. The figures just dont stack up imo, unless your still a kid when a few $ make a difference.

For example I can make more money with 1 hour of work than 1 month of mining, so I'v been out for weeks now. Still keep a stock of BTC on the exchanges out of interest though
