Out of curiosity, how many people here have:
1. Current Passport allowing them to travel outside of their country
2. Financial means to travel outside of their country
3. Time to travel outside of their country (free time away from work)
4. Desire to travel outside of their country

I will start:
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. No - not enough free time lately
4. Yes

What does this have to do with being a "citizen of the world?"

I have the same answers as you but that doesn't make me a citizen of the world.  Each, and every time, you go to another country (that's much different than yours) you realize that you are not a citizen of the world. Except in the broadest of senses that we're all people and that if we all abide by a simple social contract

1. Yes (not nearly enough stamps though)
2. Sort of
3. Not enough
4.YES  I'd like to visit and live short term in many countries

I would need more than a few Ms. Manners lessons for more than a few of them I'm often irreverent even for an American.
I've been lucky enough to travel across my own country a few times and live in several different states (California is my favorite so far)

1. Yes for sure.
2. Yes
3. No, unfortunately I don't have much free time. And if we add the covd stuff, there is no possibilities to do anything, keep at home and that's all.
4. Yes, but as I saod before, due the lack of time and the covid stuff, it is not the right time.

I feel like a citizen of the entire world because I am really confortable and happy where ever place I go but we have to assume that our passport indicates where we we were born and what's our country.

You are citizen of your country not the entire world because you need passport and lot of checking process involves before visiting another country.

Yes I love to travel and visit new places but for some reasons I don't like to move anywhere other than my country because you don't feel the freedom anywhere other than your born place.

Anyway to answer your question(s).

1. Yes, but if it is inside Europe I don't even need it.
2. Yes, but I prefer to save the money right now, in order to ask as little as possible to the bank when I buy a house.
3. Yes, but my partner doesn't.
4. Yes, but with my partner, again Sad

1. A valid passport in my country is jokingly called a foreign passport. I have it.
2. I don't have much finance, but I do have it to travel outside my country.
3. Free time is also enough. I am a pensioner.
4. There is a desire to travel to different countries. Probably I'll go somewhere soon.

In Japan, it's unethical to eat while walking.

It used to be like that in England. If fact, I once gave up a girl friend because she used eat ice cream cones whilst walking in the streets. Now people eat everywhere, even when shopping in supermarkets, and they throw their litter on the floor. It is not an improvement, and it is just one indication of lower moral standards I believe it indicates a lack of consideration for others and the environment, and probably is the result of low self-esteem.

Nowadays people can travel and work away from home thanks to the internet if they are freelancers of course! but there are still so many slaves working every day in the same office, thinking that that is the only way to do things!

The new slavery is working doing the same thing every day in the same place.

Why are most response yes to number 4 huh....
You want to travel off to another man's country where you might not get adequate freedom.   Grin

Or you want to go for terrorism.... Lol

Just because I want to go abroad, it doesn't mean I want to go to North Korea or Syria.
Many countries have perfectly sufficient freedoms and safety levels, and my opinion is that it is a good thing to expand your horizons and experience new cultures. But this doesn't mean I want to travel to a war zone or a brutal dictatorship.

However, if I had the courage, it might be good to go to those places to gain a better perspective on how lucky I am to live in the West, and how many people around the world suffer in dangerous areas and under oppressive regimes. It is very easy to live in a bubble and not consider for example the estimated 2 billion people who don't even have access to clean water.

Interesting point of view.
I never really though of it this way.
Having traveled to countries with oppressive regimes and riddled with security concerns, I still met a lot of wonderful, amazing, interesting and compassionate people, seen a lot of amazing sites, felt a lot of history and culture...
Its those people and those experiences (and some freaking amazing food) that made travel totally worth it.

It isn't the imagined desire that is significant, but the actual fact of having done it.
Well, not exactly  Grin
Intention was to leave that part open.
I am equally curious about people who never traveled - whats stopping them - desire, ability (time, financial or passport limitations)
Same applies for people who have traveled. Personally after spending a lifetime of travel for business and pleasure I still enjoy it and largely have the means, except for some recent time constraints.

I love this topic because it's structured!

1. Current Passport allowing them to travel outside of their country

I can travel anywhere in Europe and in some countries for a limited amount of time without a visa

2. Financial means to travel outside of their country

Yes, I am very lucky to say this.

3. Time to travel outside of their country (free time away from work)

Yes, also very lucky however I would have some pressure on myself thinking I should be doing
something else. It's our social responsibility isn't it?

4. Desire to travel outside of their country

Disagree, in the context of the question 'Are you a citizen of the world?' This I think is much more important as a psychological question than as merely a list of how many countries you have visited. We are one species on one planet, and a huge proportion of the trouble and conflict that arises between people is due to staking a claim to a certain patch of land. It is all everybody's. We are all citizens of the world. The sooner we all realise this, the better - fewer wars, greater compassion, and perhaps even a meaningful and coordinated response to climate change.

1. Yes, but partially. I have ID card, but AFAIK, some countries don't allow it and I would need to get passport before travelling to that country.
2. Yes.
3. No, unfortunately I don't have much free time, especially to make longer trips. Offcourse, I can do it on vacations, but sometimes I just have different plans.
4. Yes.

...

I agree with palle on one point though; inadequate freedom.

Unless you're traveling to places like North Korea, you still have to respect the local cultures, some to which might sound ridiculous.

For instance, the thumbs-up is considered giving the middle finger in some Middle East countries. In Japan, it's unethical to eat while walking.

Also if things go South, locals tend to receive better treatment than tourists/ foreigners.

i think you watch too much fox news

there are 200 countries and none of them are terrorist countries
just angry people living in some that end up doing foolish things when they go to other countries

to a country being invaded is the invaders that are the terrorists. so many times when america goes to other countries they are fighting the natives while the natives are fighting their terrorisers(usa)

if you really think 200 countries hate a single country you are wrong on so many levels did you know north korea, russia and china (the top 3 countries fox news gets angry about) actually have KFC, iphones and such.

yep people think russia are terrorists but the world loves their smirnoff vodka, and they are the main country actually helping with the international space station. so please dont watch fox news because it seems its making you afraid to experience the world out side your country

i think its time you start planning on visiting some different countries. it might enlighten you

I sleep in hotels between 150 and 200 nights each year (well, cheap hotels in cheap countries, I'm no Donald Trump).
But I don't want to be a citizen of the world. Just human. Citizenship is meaningless at best, and stupid at worst, to my eyes.
