Why would someone bother trying to steal from someone who goes to a faucet-type website? That makes about as much sense as a pick-pocket going to a soup kitchen.

Why do thieves steal from old ladies and not the central bank?

Simple. Old ladies have retirement accounts. The Federal Reserve is broke.

Why do thieves steal from old ladies and not the central bank?

Old ladies are expected to have retirement savings.

A noob going to a free bitcoin site is expected to have no bitcoins.

Patently untrue.

He will have at least 0.0001 bitcoins! Wink

Maybe someone should start a thread where free bitcoins sites that have been checked out and shown to be reputable can be listed, and where users can share their experiences in using them.   Wink

I'm not arguing that the free bitcoin sites themselves are malicious, just that they would be the obvious place to launch an attack from.

Thus the many threads on how you should secure your computer if you're going to dabble in the world of Bitcoin.

Hello world!
I was wondering if those sites aren't really dangerous?

The reason being, that the ads are placed by anonymous advertisers, paying in BTC.

The advertisers all know, that their visitors have bitcoins, and most likely are n00bs too.

How easy would it be, to place an ad with a link to a trojan, that could steal your wallet?

I don't even think they all screen the ads before airing them, and besides the content could easily be changed after the ad was approved even if screened.

Thoughts?
