Yes Brazil is also a great example where crypto can flourish especially in these troubled times. There's also a strong chance for innovation, new apps and business models emerging from these countries since there are many developers, designers & entrepreneurs doing great work.

It is not only Argentina. All the South American continent has a lot of potential in accepting Bitcoin.

You can look at Brazil as an example. Brazil is currently the South American country with the biggest adoption. They have a lot of steam going on right now and a lot of businesses popping out!

China have population ~ 1.381 billion. Argentina's population is ~ 43 millions only. So in China potential is quite larger.  Wink
That logic is really crazy because China, then, have potential for anything. And that of course isn't true.
It's not a logic man, chinaFrom 1.381 billion peoplChina only some people who can be absorbed by bitcoin. The total of the population it's not become a reliable measure to predict bitcoin potential.

I'm not surprised that Argentina is becoming one of the most friendly countries for Bitcoin, to my knowledge they've been relatively friendly to the idea and I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to get more and more friendly as time progresses.

Seems like a good thing overall, I can't wait to see where this goes.

china also have poor people there

Your view of China is about 2 decades ago. China is rapidly becoming a wealthy country:

Logically we will believe that china have bg potential in bitcoin adoption because their population so big,and biggest in this world, but also we should know that china also have poor people there, and its still hard for them to using bitcoin, and argentina look like better from wealthy factor.

Those people were something far away in technology acceptance compared to us who are still lacking. Thy prioritize technology along with growth.  As said I too heard Brazil is the country with large number of stores accepting bitcoin for the provided service.

They've removed capital controls from Argentina - so it is interesting that the bitcoin adoption hasn't abated. I guess the Argentinians don't quite trust that things will go back to normal and are clinging to their alternatives to protect themselves.

I believe Africa should top that list, because they are already moving forward with alternate payment and digital currencies. They have a vibrant cellphone network and stiff competition between service providers. If we can get them to accept Bitcoin as a national currency, they might just be able to make banking cheaper and remittance faster.

They will benefit the most from the micro payment features, because small informal trade is popular in most of these countries. ^smile^

It would be nice to see more shops accepting bitcoin, not just in Argentina, but also in other parts of the world. And I hope it is not just the high end shops that would accept it. Retail shops that cater to the masses would eventually benefit from these if transactions are paid via bitcoin.

I think you're mixing things. Argentina elected a new president 5 months ago and that talk was at Davos so he was in office for only 1 month. The "capital controls" and "huge corruption" are things from the previous populist administration. This new president is a huge relief for me as Argentinian, he has Great Vision and Leadership in all this new era for Latin America politics (Venezuela imploding, Brazil crisis, new position for Cuba, etc).

Well, hope dies last... of course it will be difficult to beat the economic destruction of the Kirchner regime.

Bitcoin is really well accepted here btw, there are already some bars, taxis and stores that accept it. The majority of them uses BitPagos that is an Argentinian enterprise that is making the process of accepting bitcoin a 5 minutes thing, awesome for small companies and freelancers.

It's great to hear reports from people, who are actually residents of a country mentioned in media reporting. There have been so many fake stories about international Bitcoin progress that I'm very hesitant to believe in any of these stories without credible confirmation by an insider. So, thank you!

That said, the Bitcoin Market Potential Index appears to be a totally artificially construed index, whose applicability to real world Bitcoin adoption seems very limited to me. I would argue that general penetration of information technology (esp. the internet) and average individual wealth are much simpler yet much better predictors of Bitcoin success in a country. It seems not realistic to me listing Sub-Saharan countries at top ranks that have very limited and/or expensive internet access.

Argentina's capital controls and huge corruption sector of the economy is making billions. I doubt they will let their privileges go that easy.
