I'm wondering why metaverse is receiving so much hype, despite not having progressed past being a vaporware product.

This is one angle that comes to mind.
The "Metaverse's" hype is not really related to the state of technology development for immersive experiences. These innovations including VR Goggles, haptic feedback gloves and stuff like that has existed for sometime already. Now, whether a lot of people are willing to convert their daily dose of entertainment into these forms is something to be thought about.

I think the cost, safety and ethics of such products will be the first major milestone and they will grow independent of the hype about metaverse. This is the Facebook metaverse we are talking about. Another bunch of products that these huge companies will give to us, market them as something we all need and then people will get addicted to these immersive experiences just like we did to our 5" touchscreens. This metaverse has nothing to do with the crypto-metaverse.

Infact, what Zuck is offering is little more than a product that we do not really need as humans. It is only going to increase dependence on technology for our dopamine boosts with little direct benefit. The crypto-metaverse is about owning virtual items in a virtual world. It is really just a footnote compared to what Zuck is trying to do. Still, i think it holds more value in terms of what it can do for artists and virtual-world developers. If it evolves through crypto, we can have it decentralized. If it takes the Zuck route, then we are all Z/F***ed.

For those who will maintain their macro crypto exposure, but must allocate amongst various coins, the coins that outperform will probably be Metaverse, Play-2-Earn, or NFT-related.

Elon Musk said Neuralink hopes to start implanting its brain chips in humans in 2022, later than he anticipated

Elon Musk has said that Neuralink, his brain-interface technology company, hopes to start implanting its microchips in human beings next year.

Neuralink, cofounded by Musk in 2016, is developing a chip that would be implanted in people's brains to simultaneously record and stimulate brain activity. It is intended to have medical applications such as treating serious spinal cord injuries and neurological disorders.

During a live-streamed interview at The Wall Street Journal CEO Council Summit on Monday, Musk was asked what Neuralink planned to do in 2022.

Musk said: "Neuralink's working well in monkeys and we're actually doing just a lot of testing and just confirming that it's very safe and reliable and the Neuralink device can be removed safely."

He added: "We hope to have this in our first humans — which will be people that have severe spinal cord injuries like tetraplegics, quadriplegics — next year, pending FDA approval."

There have not been many new developments in virtual reality.

Elon Musk's neuralink brain implant could someday progress to becoming a jack in point to the internet (or matrix). Which would coincide with a VR landscape. I'm wondering if the hype is related to neuralink developments. Or if there is another angle aside from basic finance that could fuel the hype.

Elon Musk's neuralink brain implant looks too dangerous already. The internet had already managed to control our behaviors. Evidence shows we are influenced by the adverts shown on our phones because the bots are listening to us as we speak.  If we use that VR world with Elon Musk's neuralink brain implant, we will probably just lay down all our lives life watching adverts while eyes all white.

Agree with your response, we are still early in the metaverse/nft investment scenerio.

Only 14 reads so far.  Thankfully, a handful of old timers still around.

Most newbie posters probably don't remember Bitmex from back in the day.

(Board has mostly devolved into "wen moon?" instead of a space for cultivating thought-provoking conversations.   Grin)

He is saying Metaverse and Play-2-Earn tokens will win?  Its not going to hurt to hold some even if you are not playing.

It's the investors with weak hands will only be affected if the US and China are going to squeeze the money out from the 3 types of crypto investors. It's pointless because it's still not going to kill crypto but circoloco will be good.

Writes of caution - China vs US monetary pressures for three types of crypto investors:

Quote
For those who are deciding whether to allocate more fiat into crypto, it pays to wait. I don’t see money getting any free-er or easier.
Therefore, it pays to sit on the sidelines until the dust settles after a March 2022 or June 2022 Fed rate hike.
Watch out for a puke fest in risk asset prices should the Fed hike, followed by a quick resumption of zero interest rate policy and aggressive bond purchases.
When the Fed signals a return to business as usual, then it’s time to back up the truck.

For those who will maintain their macro crypto exposure, but must allocate amongst various coins, the coins that outperform will probably be Metaverse, Play-2-Earn, or NFT-related.
The success of these themes do not hinge on global monetary conditions, but an actual change in behavior of actors whose lives can be dramatically improved by adopting new forms of technology.

For those who like to trade around their crypto vs. fiat positions, I would err on the side of USD strength and the long bond performing well in the medium-term.
Again, monetary conditions in the best case will be at a standstill, and in the worst case will become tighter.
