Let's get to the bottom of this at last: why are people using crypto's anyway??

Tell me your main uses for coins (up to three choices).

WHY I'M WRITING AN ARTICLE

I've been disappointed by mainstream media's portrayal of why/how people use coins.  Instead of citing data, they quote someone like Warren Buffet who doesn't even use coins, and people believe everything that guy says.

So I'm going to write an article myself.  It's been a few years since I've published anything, but I wok in media and can get an article published with a reputable group.  I'll let you all know where you can find it.

Crypto does not depend on any control center but it obviously depends on whether someone opens the computer running it or not. If for some reason people do not like it anymore but like another coin and not open computer running its blockchain software anymore, how to deal. The main purpose of using crypto is to make money.

Actually I don't need cryptocurrencies, I don't use the ones I hold now, just hold them to sell for a good price and think of them as undervalued. But tokens may be more valuable if project is successful so it worths to hold some tokens.

I use crypto currency exclusively for the purpose of making money on speculation. I do not believe in them as a means of payment, since coins have too high volatility. And the state will not allow it.

Good answer...  And honest.

Add me to that list.  As far as I'm concerned, I care less about all the altcoins (maybe except for XMR and LTC), but I do care about BTC somewhat.  But what really got me in the space was to speculate, then I guess learning new stuff was nice too.  But again...  I came here to trade, speculate and gamble.

Most of the people using crypto currency for earning purpose and rarely someone use it as a means of payment.I admit that I am holding bitcoin as an asset and I hope the price of bitcoin will increase more and more in the coming years. And still bitcoin or other crypto is not yet ready for the day to day usage,we have been using crypto for less than a decade but fiat for centuries so it may take a while to adapt to the system for its intended purpose of peer to peer transaction without any third party's help. For now it is mostly used for its speculative property.

You can see from the first few answers here that even if you wrote an article about why people use crypto, you'd probably be writing a different one every time you asked. You can't blame mainstream media for writing what they do. They're exposed to different networks of people, just like you will be here.

Let's see: one user says crypto's only used for speculating/trading, and not for means of payment because state doesn't allow it. Bitcoin was designed to free us from the state! So you might see that this could be the general population: crypto as a trading asset, never for its intended purpose, since most don't even take the effort or interest to learn about crypto.

Indeed, it is terrible.
The cryptocurrency market seems to have only the value of hype. There is a huge bubble, and I think when the bubble disappears, most of the tokens will die.

you are being too general, you need to focus more on details rather than just saying "crypto". for example Warren Buffet was not talking about crypto in general but bitcoin specifically.

and the choices become extremely limited in general. for example the reason i become interested in bitcoin was because i saw a decentralized currency that i could use to pay for stuff without any problem.
but that same thing "decentralization" is not true about half of the altcoins and "currency" for 99% of them.
this means even if i wanted to i couldn't use them for "Buying things / Shopping" which is your first option.
