elons main 10year mission is space. its what self driving vehicles, his boring drills and solar and spaceX is all going towards

but he is smart to not just throw money into R&D for a project 10 years away. so yea make money on earth to cover the space missions later using same R&D tech, by using the tech for other earth uses. smart dude

anyway sticking with earth stuff
i see autonomous vehicles that do the mundane transport. such as trams/taxi/trucks. you know the ones doing the same route each day every day
thus reduce the cost of transport by not having a human driver.

i can see a future where city mainstreets will be closed off to citizen owned cars(UK congestion zone) and turned into 'tramways' for public service transport(automated taxi/buses/trams)

i can even see highways having a designated lane for automotive vehicles(UK/US buslanes/carpool lanes)

but first we need to sort out the cost of transport.
in the UK it costs £15 to go between 2 main cities i looked at by train. but a petrol car can do it for £8. thus EV cars will need to offer a communter service between the 2 cities for less than both. to make it go mainstream/used in the majority

until then. only the rich will be auto-EV buyers that want to be lazy and watch netflix while on the highway

Quite an experience, for a beta release, i will say Ellon and the Tesla has really perfected this technological car. We will see as the perfection unfolds.

The advancement I'm most excited about is the exoskeleton of the Cybertruck, but the self driving stuff is really next level.

I think the goal is to have it be quite a bit more reliable than a human drive

I believe that goal was achieved a few years ago.  It will act with 100% reliability - unlike a human which can be distracted.

It is some fascinating technology and Tesla really are pushing boundaries, however I'm always concerned that people can get too complacent with it all. If you have to be constantly alert and ready to take over driving any second, do you ever really get the peace of mind benefit that it should be able to give you? If a rogue reflection from the side of a lorry or even a malicious billboard can cause the car to act erratically, is that really worth the benefit? Either way, this sort of tech is the future but history has shown that the early pioneers sometimes suffer the most.

I think the goal is to have it be quite a bit more reliable than a human driver, to the point where they will be able to operate their own autonomous taxi fleet.

Here's a half hour video showing some autonomous driving: https://youtu.be/vCHktMUpWVM

One thing Tesla is great at doing is using their fleet to collect insane amounts of data that I'm sure will be helpful in developing a worry free autonomous vehicle experience: https://electrek.co/2020/10/24/tesla-collecting-insane-amount-data-full-self-driving-test-fleet/

Regulators seem like they aren't sure about Tesla's beta rollout quite yet, so we can only hope that progress continues and ultimately succeeds in a self driving Cybertruck being released at the end of next year: https://www.theverge.com/2020/10/23/21530411/teslas-full-self-driving-beta-test-nhtsa

They also raised the price of the full self driving package by $2,000. That makes for a 20x return on the $100 preorder cost of the Cybertruck. Thanks Elon!

the first reaction the video maker experienced made me fall in love with this car...
this car is the car of my dreams because it is certain that those who do not really understand how to drive can drive this. the development is very professional and Elon really dedicates himself to making the best electric car.

Self driving cars are officially here with the release of Tesla's self driving software beta!

I can't wait to use this.  Easily one of the most anticipated technological advancements of this century.  Enjoy the video in the linked article!
