I am a newcomer too. So apart from the advices from learning the knowledge, it would be also good to play in the market with very small amount of money. For an example, you will consider transaction fees a big chunk if your investment is not big enough.

For those who want to trade in crypto currency, it is important to know . The beginner should start with choosing a company with a good reputation, which offers an exchange and a wallet, to simplify the process.

I highly recommend watching a few videos on blockchain technology. Videos tend to explain things better and faster than reading.
After that, do take a look at some white papers to get an understanding of what each coin is trying to do!

As a newbie in crypto currency, and I've been following some forums about crypto currency, but until now I still have not found the characteristics of this crypto currency. How this crypto currency can provide financial benefits from the perpetrators in this business.
Perhaps the main step to get to know the crypto currency is to ask a lot of questions to the seniors here

You need to start to understand the technology. If you're not a programmer or in the tech field it may be useful to learn what a fork is; to know what hashing means; and then start learning about the blockchain. Learn the basics about POW and POS. It

Welcome to the community! I am new too, but there seems to be a lot of passionate people here interested in helping each other. Its a great "home base" to start from each day.

When I first got started it felt like there was too much information, and I eventually realized I had to learn one thing at a time. Its important to really get a good understanding of the basics. I think the best place to start is to understand WHY the blockchain technology was created, and then learn about its first application: Bitcoin.

I have a few great resources for newcomers.

This company has fantastic guides that are written in plain English with great illustrations: www.upfolio.com

This is a good app for tracking different coins: www.blockfolio.com

Here is a good site for industry-wide news: www.coindesk.com
I would suggest sticking to learning the basics before trying to follow the news.

There are lots of good youtube channels once you have a basic understanding. Andrea Antonopoulos will help build your bigger understanding of the purpose and long-term future: www.youtube.com/channel/UCJWCJCWOxBYSi5DhCieLOLQ

Good day sir ! I am also a newbie in this industry and i also came from nothing and currently learning something.
When i first stumble on this so called Bitcoin i discovered a lot of stuff like like how fast it grows and how big is the chances you can get to earn lots of money. "Of course ! Big money so i got baited" but as far as i read more informations about this ive learnt a lot, i mean not much but enough i think ? To understand what is Bitcoin (Crytocurrency). So what i can suggest why dont you just try to understand first what/when/why/how bitcoin works ? Then what is the backbone of this or what is block chain and then you'll suddenly going to to see a lot of things that is so interesting to learn about bitcoin

1. What is proof of work / proof of stake
2. What is a private and public key
3. How to store bitcoin safely.

And remember, make sure you do a ton of research before you buy into an ICO. Its a goldmine and a minefield at the same time.

I also think it's important to just go ahead and jump the gun. Before your rig is even built you tend to almost over research and worry about every little thing. I think go ahead and even just get a 1 card rig going. It's always easier to learn by doing verse reading the endless knowledge out there.

i'm very new to this stuff but since actually jumping in and getting some 'skin in the game' I'm learning way faster, all the stuff I'd read about ad nauseum but didn't know how I would respond come game time.  I'm not sure how many times I may 'learn' some of these lessons lol

Yeah totally agree. Sometimes there is so much you can read, but experience learning is usually the key.

"Mastering bitcoin" and "The internet of money" by Andreas Antonopoulos is a GREAT way to start
- just an easy flowing written book.

others might think otherwise but to start off as a new comer.. this book is ace..

also just browse through some good articles on what is bitcoin, its functionality, use cases, mining, other attributes, etc. try to understand why it is so important, so hyped, and why banks, financial institutions are incredibly wary of the tech.

learn about third party service providers, any service that requires an intermediary and challenge yourself to see how blockchain can be implemented to remove this, is it realistic, feasible? I think that would be a great way to start.

it's so important to learn the functionalities and technicalities of bitcoin and blockchain before doing anything else.

as a first point: understand that the blockchain allows you to take control and safeguard of your own assets. so take advantage of this technology! learn how to do this as a start before anything else.  Grin Grin

Hello fellow Bitcointalk members!

I'm a newbie as well on here, but I do have some basic info on bitcoin and altcoins. First of all, I find some really useful resources (I'm not sure if it's ok to share links, but you should be able to google the names):

- michael nielsen: how the bitcoin protocol actually works

Also I get a lot of good insights from influencers like:

- Hackernoon
- Crush Crypto

You should also be familiar with the charts and market cap at: the World Coin Index and the Coin Market Cap.

Personally I'm really interested in the crypto world and how it all works.
I hope to explore this journey together as a community, to learn from everyone on here and to share my insights as well.   Roll Eyes

Cheers!

security is obviously very important.

if web based accounts  are hijacked, currencies transfers are quick and irreversible.

i recently added 2-step password authentication with Google Authenticator on my smartphone, most sites encourage 2-step auth.

a standalone app is more secure than SMS texting, because a cellphone can be hacked or switched away from the owner.

Recommended!!!

For a beginner, I suggest you buy books on Bitcoin, read articles about bitcoin, browse and read the bitcointalk forum, watch youtube videos about bicoin, read bitcoin reddit. Now you should know the minimum about Bicoin, you will have to learn how to secure your wallet and avoid scams. The easiest way to get into Bitcoin is to go to coinbase and buy your bitcoin with VISA and then withdrawn it to your hardware wallet like Nano ledger and forget it.

I am newcomer too. I don't read book, I hate almost all those article in the website link that some people gave. Why? because those article is just giving crap theory and never touch technically explanation, they just writing a piece of shi* for me as a newcomer. I don't understand at all what they wrote there.
I want to learn the concept, the real way to understand not reading all those weird article and book. To learn the concept, i will ask my self what do i need to know. Most of articles that i get from google are crap, can't understand it. Most of real explanation for me, I get it if I ask someone in direct conversation, direct message, the key is directly. No problem if those writer call me an idiot because for me, their articles are the real idiot articles. If they really understand the concept, they have to write more like technically explanation, the concept behind the theory. Why? Because we can spell theory completely if we understand the concept, but otherwise we can't do anything if we just knowing the theory except just spelling it, we can't do anything practically. So telling the theory will never work out. Sorry for those writer. Most all writer did that. I doubt most of them can do something practically, they can only talk and write just like a bigmouth.
So, beside searching for the answer in this forum, we as newcomer have to find someone to talk directly.  Roll Eyes

It's nice to know the fundamentals of Bitcoin, such as what a block is and block time, and how that relates to transaction fees - also, what mining is.

These are all prevalent issues with Bitcoin and other currencies, and thus affects their price. Also, once you know all this, stuff such as Hard Forks and Soft Forks are easier to understand.

Well, first of all, welcome on board. As you said you want to learn about this technology and you are interested in it yet you don't want to read the book. In such case, I would recommend you to start with 'Beginners & Help' section and read the topics so that you will be able to learn the basic stuff and you will find the solutions to your most of the questions as a newbie. Spend as much as time in reading the valuable topics, posts and articles to gain a concrete base of knowledge.

One thing I realize with this very helpful answer,  is "if there are things that we can't understand after studying the things that need to know is that will be the right time for us to give answers. Thanks for this buddy.

I am also a newcomer. As i go through from most of the discussions, i come to know that, we have to read all about forum rules and diffrent discussions. Then you also have to up your rank by taking a part in discussions. The more you discussed the more you learned!!

I just contacted the virtual currency, now more confused, I do not know what knowledge is what I most need to understand. What part of the virtual currency is, I think I should start from the most basic, but I do not know how to start.
I hope friends can give me some advice, I have bought some books, but I do not know a lot of knowledge, I think it is not the book I should read, maybe they are too difficult.
If you can give me some advice, I will be very grateful, I hope to see your answer, thank you!

Hi, welcome to the forum! I hope you enjoy it Smiley Imo, get to know some basic definitions of bitcoin, altcoins, blockchain, how to buy and sell, exchangers, how to secure your crypto wallets...which are all free on google or on our forum. If you really like this topic it wont take much time to know all basic ones. Good luck!

You know how in the institute one to listen to lectures is another to take part yourself. Therefore, I think you should start with coins, where you can not lose much and simultaneously learn and ask a lot on the forum. Only then you will understand all this.

Learn the books you purchased first, then learn about the virtual currency from video on the Internet, or take a look at the tutorials on BBS.If you have friends who know virtual currency, it's better to ask friends if you don't understand them.Of course, you can also participate in the virtual currency discussion group, which will learn more. That's how I got to know the virtual currency.

Great Advice! One thing to note; make sure you learn using your wallets on a secured network, and never give away or LOSE your info. once it's gone, you can never get it back!

Goodluck to the OP!!!

Obviously you'll need to open up a trading account and fund it (which takes a few days or more in the US due to KYC laws).

But it all starts and ends with wallets (for an investor). Understand how they work, the limitations,etc.. Assuming you're sold on BTC and crypto currencies as a whole - learn about wallets, brain wallets, paper wallets, off-line wallets, hardware wallets.

After you purchase BTC send some to different wallets. Yes you'll be paying fees but that's the price of learning how your tool works. After three or four transactions you'll be a pro.  It will make sense to have different types of wallets just so that you can learn.

After that -- just read and watch yt videos. There's plenty of rabbits holes to fall down into: from shift ciphers to elliptic curve cryptography to understanding how the block chain works.

I actually learned on my own. It was pretty difficult to grasp considering it's always up & down. But I'd recommend reading the books, doing as much learning as you can, & when you're ready... get a good wallet lol. You can manage lad!

first of all, you don't need to spent your money for learning cryptocurrencies, it's all free and you can get it by reading this forum, or reading blog, watching youtube videos, so all is free.

then you need to read much from this forum, if anything is unclear, feel free to ask.

Well if you've bought them then I would suggest at least trying to read them first as it would be a good start. If you struggle with those then try watch some youtube videos about what bitcoin is for beginners etc. I would recomend watching anything you can fine by andreas antonopoulos as he is good for beginners and helped me out a lot when I first started. Good look.
